  • Yo Brompton freaks,
Yeah you know who y'all are, that's why you're all here so thanks for quickly dropping by!
Here is a quick edit I made of a project I have been really busy with. Long story short I found it difficult to find the colorway that would interest me despite many varieties of colors Brompton offers! I basically acquired a frame with the help of a good friend named Dennis @justridebrompton who got me into the Brompton craze from the day one, he's been guiding me through the ins and outs, dos and donts of the game!
So here I am stripping off the paint of my frame and hoping to build it soon as and get on the road and fly high!
Powder coat is such a pain in the ass to strip especially with weak paint strippers available in the market so I had to do what I had to do. DIY Raw frame at home, loving all the blemishes and the markings which I could not get rid off despite the polishing but at least the brazing is looking sexy as ever even looking like 24k gold! I personally think it is unique to have all the battle scars on the frame, it shows history and character. I personally am not a fan of perfection, I love the imperfections on the surface and to me these markings are a sign of an artistic display full RAW, no make ups and no cover ups. What you see is what you get, I do for sure have to watch out for any rusting that will creep up in due time and for sure will be mindful of this!
Onto the next part of the build. Stay tuned as I will be updating my channel with progress of the bike in terms of parts, mods etc. Just pure fun 100% please lovely people no negative energy welcome see you soon! xx

After removing the paint, did you apply a product to protect the steel?
or did you not apply anything at all?
I'm asking because I'm removing the paint too :p

I did mine with Glass Bead Blasting and finished with Clear Lacquer. Not as good as the original Brompton one but good enough for me. Just keep it dry after using in the rain. Mine already developed some tiny rust.

Thanks for watching and sharing your experience! So far mine has been fine weathered heavy rains and survived a snowy winter season. Let's see how long it'll last until rust appears!

How does it looks 2 years after? Coz raw lacquer tends to rust from underneath and the whole layer of lacquer will peel off.

Yes, the lacquer has faded and now running the bike without clear coating. It has little surface rust like powdery type but nothing serious. Steel is the real deal 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

Perhaps next time bro…..use a Nitromors paint and varnish remover prior to removing paint….easy enough to use, just brush it all over the surface and let it soak for a few minutes….paint will start to bubble or lift off the metal then start scraping or use your wire brush…any stubborn paint just brush it again……just be careful as stuff can get a bit itchy on the skin so do use protective gear.
You did great stripping this….was thinking the same with my old frame too but since I was thinking to re paint it also, decide to get it done professionally….Got it powder coated☺️ To be honest it’s much cost effective unless you really fancy to DIY. Are you gonna put the parts or updating some?

Thanks for your kind words! To be honest I did not shop around and just bought the quickest find. Next time I will try your recommendation! I think I want to keep it RAW but contemplating whether to apply clear coat or what not. Still can't find to build it up but will put up a video once ready! xx

I have my first Brompton bike for 2days, now I have some scratches and paint came off …..wonder if Brompton uses some nail polish quality paint on their bikes, like all my other $500ish bike don’t have this kind of problem. I will cover the spot with some clear uv gel for nail to avoid rust

We all share the same pain! Good luck on your paintwork care xx

It’s partly my fault…I didn’t unfold the left side pedal before swinging the rear wheel open. Scratch on the triangle

A lot of hours really when either a solvent or sand/bead blasting would have done it but be careful of the brazed joints as they are softer so if you go for the latter make sure that the operator knows that. Having gone to all that time and trouble i would leave it raw and laquer it. The trouble with the wire cup brushes is that you then have to remove the marks that that makes if you wish to leave it raw🤔

Thanks for watching and for sharing your views. So far it's been going on well, had it coated. Managed to get passed the rainy London showers and surpassed the heavy winter snowy months as well. Fingers crossed it stays solid 🤞🏾

You could get it powder coated with no pigment like Brompton does for raw lacquer
