Great point by Larry. Obama missed a golden opportunity to be a real leader, a role model for young blacks, instead of helping to keep them as helpless victims.

@scott sanger - *OBAMA, 2008:* 200,000 people came out to see Obama in Berlin _before_ he was even elected president - one of the largest crowds of ANY candidate.
*TRUMP, 2016:* The parliament (government) of the U.K. (Britain) actually held formal debate on whether to vote to _BAN DONALD TRUMP FROM EVER ENTERING THEIR COUNTRY_ .
*TRUMP, 2017:* The very first day of his presidency there was the LARGEST SINGLE-DAY PROTEST IN U.S. HISTORY - A *WORLDWIDE PROTEST AGAINST DONALD TRUMP* - The Women's March.
Draw your own conclusions as to who was more of a divisive figure.

Obama _"missed a golden opportunity to be a real leader"_ , you say? Well, DESPITE the complete stonewall put up by Mitch McConnell and the republican congress - and their publicly stated commitment to _"make Obama a one-term president"_ , here are just a FEW of the *_"leader"_* things that Obama got done for people of color:
[I'm sure you'll not likely read it, because people like you would rather say what you wanna say, instead of saying what you actually see.]
      * In February 2014, the president introduced My Brother’s Keeper, to specifically focus on improving the lives of young African American males. The initiative is encouraging nonprofits to raise $200 million in five years for programs focused on young men of color. Though My Brother’s Keeper is not a federally-funded government program, no such effort has existed before under any American president.
      * *Championing Criminal Justice Reform and Fair Policing* - President Obama signed the Fair Sentencing Act in 2010. This narrowed the penalty between crack and powder cocaine from 1:10 to 1:18. In 2014, President Obama established a task force on policing and in 2015, he rolled back the use of certain military equipment by local police-a Black Lives Matter related demand. During the Obama presidency, the Department of Justice has investigated several police departments, including Ferguson, Cleveland, and Philadelphia, under former Attorney General Eric Holder and current Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
      * The unemployment rate for African Americans peaked at 16.8 percent in March 2010, after experiencing a larger percentage-point increase from its pre-recession average to its peak than the overall unemployment rate did. Since then, the African-American unemployment rate has seen a larger percentage-point decline in the recovery, falling much faster than the overall unemployment rate over the last year.
      * The real median income of black households increased by 4.1 percent between 2014 and 2015.
      * Obama enacted permanent expansions of the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit, which together now provide about 2 million African-American working families with an average tax cut of about $1,000 each.
      * The poverty rate for African Americans fell faster in 2015 than in any year since 1999. While the poverty rate fell for across all racial and ethnic groups this year, it fell 2.1 percentage points (p.p.) for African Americans, resulting in 700,000 fewer African Americans in poverty.
      * African American children also made large gains in 2015, with the poverty rate falling 4.2 percentage points and 400,000 fewer children in poverty.
      * Since the start of Affordable Care Act's first open enrollment period at the end of 2013, the uninsured rate among non-elderly African Americans has declined by more than half. Over that period, about 3 million uninsured nonelderly, African-American adults gained health coverage.
      * Teen pregnancy among African-American women is at an historic low. The birth rate per 1,000 African-American teen females has fallen from 60.4 in 2008, before President Obama entered office, to 34.9 in 2014.
      * Life expectancy at birth is the highest it’s ever been for African Americans. In 2014, life expectancy at birth was 72.5 years for African-American males and 78.4 for African-American females, the highest point in the historical series for both genders.
      * The high school graduation rate for African-American students is at its highest point in history. In the 2013-2014 academic year, 72.5 percent of African-American public high school students graduated within four years.
      * Since Obama took office, over one million more black and Hispanic students enrolled in college.
      * Under Obama, among African-Americans and Hispanic students 25 and older, high school completion is higher than ever before. Among African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian students 25 and older, Bachelor’s degree attainment is higher than ever before. As of 2015, 88 percent of the African-American population 25 and older had at least a high school degree and 23 percent had at least a Bachelor’s degree.
      * Under Obama, Pell Grant funding for HBCU students increased significantly between 2007 and 2014, growing from $523 million to $824 million.
      * The incarceration rates for African-American men and women fell during each year of the Obama Administration and are at their lowest points in over two decades.
      * Nearly 250 communities in all 50 states, 19 Tribal Nations, Washington, DC and Puerto Rico have accepted the President’s My Brother’s Keeper Community Challenge to dedicate resources and execute their own strategic plans to ensure all young people can reach their full potential.

I honestly felt this is why Ben Carson was so underrated. He credits his success to his mother's influence and the rest to the merit principle. But considering his mother was illiterate, it was no small thing that she made him read and persevere. It's sad that something like having a good mom isn't as newsworthy as some identity politic label. Elder's assertions about the integrity of the family unit being paramount to the success of the black community isn't as fancy as creating a new victim group.

Addressing climate change is all the left in Canada has left to offer me, but they're plagued by the regressive ideas that characterize the left in the USA currently. There is currently no political party in Canada that reflects my values which are similar to yours, Dave.
I can't see myself entering politics in the short term, as I have to get my career rolling and secure a solid income for myself and my girlfriend, but in the long term I may feel compelled to. How else can I ensure that classical liberalism still has a voice in Canada?
I should also say that Larry Elder is an outstanding guest and I wouldn't mind seeing him become a regular on the show.

    • @soulfuzz368

Alex Eddy I feel very similar to you as a Canadian. Part of your trouble I believe is that environmental efforts are usually in opposition to liberal values. Environmental regulations is putting the collective ahead of the individual therefore if the environment is that important, you must then make a sacrifice in your political stance. Good luck to you and the rest of us in Canada.

+soulfuzz the seer .. also the problem with big government is that whenever they get in the mix all they create is a bunch of cronyists and corrupt regulatory system and NO REAL SOLUTION... their "cure" is often far worse than the problem itself... I believe that regular people DO care about the environment and free market WILL provide solutions bc free individuals, as a group, are far more moral than big government with power to regulate.

    • @soulfuzz368
      @soulfuzz368 7 лет назад +1

RequiemFor America I think we pretty much agree then. But I do believe in some regulations as there will always be people who would rather save their business money by dumping their shit on the rest of us. I have worked for a struggling business before and I understand what people will do when money gets tight.

I've been a liberal Democrat for my whole life, and the more I watch Dave Rubin the more I realize I actually tend to agree with true conservatives. Not Alt-Right necessarily, because I honestly feel like there is a racist undertone in Alt-Right. But normal conservative/centrist individuals make much more sense than both the Alt-Right and radical left. The Democratic party has been leaving me, and not the other way around. It's upsetting, but I believe it is important for me as an individual to be open to the idea that things I've previously thought and believed are not always correct. And I should continue to keep that same mindset. Life is a learning experience and it behooves us to always look for self-improvement.
Larry Elder is a brilliant man. I would vote for him, regardless the party platform he runs on, if he ran for president.

It's been an interesting ride for the almost 30 years that I have been a Classical Liberal (aka Libertarian). In the 90 and early 2000s, my Republican friends saw me as a Democrat, and my Democrat friends saw me as a Republican. Dave, your journey is a perfect example of how the lines have shifted. I have seen some longtime Democrat friends leave the party (some became independents, some Libertarian), while others have doubled down and followed the leftward herd off the deep end. I have seen longtime Republican friends do the same. Some have now joined the Classical Liberal movement, while others have doubled down in support of Trump. However, it is notable that I can still have reasoned debates with those Trump loving Republicans, but I can no longer do that with very many of the Trump hating leftists. Dave, I appreciate that you have done such a good job of articulating this shift. I never thought I would see the day when Democrats would be espousing hate and violence. Almost everything that I loved about that party doesn't exist there anymore.

  • @Patrick-857

Dave has changed a lot since his 2015 video with Milo. He is much more open and much less likely to argue with people. He seems to have become increasingly libertarian and has dropped a lot of the lefts identity politics that he threw up at Milo. I am impressed to see how much he has grown, and I know this is mirrored in many of us who value freedom on both the left and the right.
I for one have changed very much, at the time of this video I was hanging onto every word Cenk Uygur and Russel Brand said, and was totally left wing. I was on the brink of seeing myself as a male feminist too. But I have in the last year gone from that to being very culturally libertarian and am dead against feminism and social justice warriors.
My eyes have been opened, and it was all because I listened to a 90s hit by L7, a feminist rock band, which I had recently become a fan of, called 'When We Pretend That We're Dead' and I heard the line "Turn the tables with our unity, or just say no to individuality". I was a bit surprised to hear that they viewed individuality as a negative, as it was something I held to be very important. That same day I went home and I saw Shoeonheads video 'The Pink Tax' in my feed. I expected it to be a feminist video, but was immediately transported into the anti social justice world, that same night finding Undoomed, Sargon, and many many others. My transformation was almost immediate. It was one of the most profound experiences of my life. I moved on to following much more learned people like Jordan B Peterson, Jonathan Haidt, Steven Pinker, Camille Paglia, Christina Hoff Sommers, Karen Straughn, Janice Fiamengo and so many more.
Anybody else have a crazy instant transformation like this? Or was it more gradual?

    • @JT-sq3sn
      @JT-sq3sn 7 лет назад +5

I haven't transformed. I was a clear thinking non-ideologist from the very early years of my life. This might be due to my high IQ, which means it is likely that I see patterns and connect dots much more quickly than the rest of the society.

Obama has missed a unique opportunity because he, and even more so his wife, have quite anti-white, that is racist, views themselves. That is why the "first couple" has done nothing to unify the country. They misused their power and influence to divide society on the basis of immutable characteristics like ethnicity and skin color.

Just found your channel a couple days ago, and watching through all your interviews. Really fantastic content, refreshing in its self-awareness and honesty. My only complaint is not with the program, but with the state of our society - while there is a plethora of well-spoken conservative leaders, able to concisely articulate their values and positions... there seems a stark lack of similar liberal leaders. I wish it weren't the case, because I'm finding my social media streams decisively one-sided in the common sense, logic, and rationalism departments.

    • @GiasJulii
      @GiasJulii 6 лет назад +9

If we are being honest there is a real easy reason for that. Liberal politics are not about values or defending your positions. It has become nothing but name calling and identity politics which takes the view if you disagree with me you are some type of "ism".

Larry nailed it in his opening response: Dave not only asked questions, he cared enough to shut up and listen to the answers, rather than use the questions as a device to draw out something he disagreed with so he could jump in and interrupt with his own views and try to shout down the guest - which I've seen all too often during interviews.
The last interview was awesome because two people with differing opinions sat and talked with respect for one another. Whether you believe with either side in whole or in part or not at all, the fact that they were able to talk in a civilised manner made both sides of the interview a pleasure to listen to.

  • @leahdynes_lighterdays

I stopped identifying with the left when I realized that despite being disabled and LGBT, my opinion wasn't welcome because neither are my Identity/staples of who I am and I showed appreciation for those who cared enough to give me 'unsolicited advice' in regards to my health.
I found back then, around/at least 5 years ago, that people want to be oppressed and victimized, even when self inflicted, because it gives them something to fight for no matter how empty a cause, as well as a badge of honor as if possessing bravery/nobility. I learned this through trying to share my story; my experience of being chronically ill (heart problem since 8 years old) and disabled (Scoliosis Corrective surgery at 15 that left me with extensive nerve damage that causes immobility and/or short-term paralysis) being met with statements like "Must be nice" or "Well lucky you" for things that work for me or ways I've adapted.
People want to bitch, with or without reason, and they don't want to be held accountable for making things better. They don't want to have power over their lives because that means the state of their life is their responsibility and it's easier to blame others than look at yourself as being the reason you've gone nowhere and accomplished nothing.
While yes, there are innate challenges in being disabled, my experience of being physically disabled hinders my ability to do many physical things and of those physical things that I can do, I'm often left not being able to for long because of my heart but that's just life. Life isn't easy or fair and the lack of easiness and fairness doesn't equate to oppression or victim-hood.

However, I think most media outlets, and politicians are corrupt. Donald Trump, Obama, Clinton, Bush were, and is fucked up. Why, because if you go for what group, it's highly possible to hurt another. I'm not a liberal, or conservative. Also, everyone is on the Trump wagon so as long as they benefit. At any rate, I don't think the country is going to explode now that Trump is in office (for only 4 years at least). with all due respect I disagree. He speaks nicely, but he has a lot of problems in his arguments. He says for example that Obama had a lot of "scandals" and then cites pulling the troops out of Iraq as a scandal. Can't really say that's a "scandal" even if you think it wasn't a good policy. Obama was pretty up front about his plans to do exactly that. A scandal is "an action or event regarded as morally or legally wrong and causing general public outrage." I think its very hard to call that a scandal. Then he cites the "IRS scandal" which has been totally debunked. In fact the only group that ever was de-listed was liberal. The email server is a bit of a "scandal" but was really on HRC, not Obama. And when he just said that watergate really wasn't a big deal, it's pretty hard to take that argument seriously at all. I could go on.....

Whatever Obama did or didn't do, you will hate him. It's a done deal, and whatever horrific scandals Trump is doing and will do, you will give a pass. Did you know that Trump has a private email server? But of course only Hillary deserves jail for that.

serious question Rob. how can you separate Philosophy from Politics? I don't understand how this is possible.
at the end of the day politics is nothing but the legalization of your philosophy.

"how can you separate Philosophy from Politics?"
Sometimes you can reach wrong conclusions with the right arguments, and sometimes the problem is with HOW to "legalize" your philosophy.
