Hey guys! I tried this new thing and took notes during the video instead of pausing the playback! Let me know what you think!
On one end, I feel that this is nice because I can let the video play and focus more on the listening part, but on the other hand, I think it might actually remove from the excitement that I have when I notice something that I like, because I don't express it right away. It's a tradeoff. I recorded 3 reactions in that style so the next couple of ones will be like this, but depending on your feedback I might either keep doing this, or go back to how I used to do it!
    Let me know!

I personally don't mind pausing as long as it's a bit spread out and the video is rewound a bit if the flow of the song was interupted. As you say I think part of the allure is the excitement of the moment. I've also seen some reactors Comme back and replay specific sections and give some extra comments at that point.

I prefer you to pause because you miss a lot by not seeing the artist performing from times to times. Also writing puts your rational brain on front and your emotional brain is a bit behind the scene. With Lara, for example, a lot of things happen thru the eyes, the facial expression and the movements. You need to see it and feel it.

As long as you are sure it doesnt take away from your immersion and emotional connection to the song its ok. Also maybe you would miss some small visual momments for performers like Lara? Either way what works best for you. No issues with pausing of course

Hello Elvann, first video I watch but I think I would prefer to see more your excitement😃. I want to see you receives the song first and not just analyse (the pen & paper kill it a little) Why not 2 passes? First to live the emotion (I think many fans would share this, we love to see reactors' emotions to Lara's voice & performance) and second pass breaking up and explain how her perfect technique allows to radiate so much emotion. Thanks anyway for this reaction. All behind Eric Sicard proposed list for your next reactions to Lara. One version of Caruso maybe ?

    More information on Lara Fabian:
Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, ....
In my personal opinion, she is even the best.
There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register.
So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence:
    • she speaks 2 languages natively (french, italian), and 2 others fluently (english, spanish), can speak a bit of dutch (and sicilian), and understand quite well russian and portuguese. She has sung in 12 languages in total
    • she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks fluently. She often co-composes the music with the composer.
    • she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none
    • she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens.
A quick background on her and her career:
She is belgian, her father is flemish, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia) and American roots ( her grandfather is from Detroit). She was raised in sicilia first then in Belgium so she speaks both french and italian as native languages.
She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory.
She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today.
She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada.
She now lives in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship
She became very famous there and then conquered France in 1996/1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music).
In 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, stayed number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for 58 weeks in a row and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US.
This concert is legendary and the song you just reviewed is from this concert.
But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan.
She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Central Asia where she became an absolute superstar through her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years. She is absolutely massive in Russia for instance.
She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace", used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera, topped the charts for months and become a recurrent in the local singing contests since then.
Many of her songs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban, …
With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there.
Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA and many other countries are now rediscovering her.
    She is Dimash's idol:
I’ve read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep.
He covered many of her songs, most of these were composed by Igor Krutoy and written by by Lara.
Out of my mind I can list:
    ○ Adagio (She wrote it and is the original performer),
    ○ Mademoiselle Hyde (she wrote it and is the original performer),
    ○ Love of Tired Swans (she wrote the song in French under the title "Je t'aime encore" and was the original performer of the french then the russian versions, Dimash covered the russian version)
    ○ Ascolta La Voce / Vocalize (this was a pure vocalization and she was the original performer, then lyrics were added for Dimash and it was rebranded as "Know")
She also wrote the lyrics of Dimash's song "Your Love".
And she covered "Love is like a dream" before him (song from Igor Krutoy originally performed by Alla Pugacheva).
Finally, they also performed "Ti Amo Cosi" together, in trio with Aida Garafulina: this is a song that she performed originally with Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Sumi Jo then again later with Dmitri and Alina Yarovaya, before this new trio with Dimash and Aida.
Dimash is now also working with Igor Krutoy: Igor and Dimash connected after his Adagio cover, also endorsed by Lara.
Igor came back from retirement and composed severals songs for him after it.
Many other top vocalists from the current generation covered her songs, some have Lara as a role model and big inspiration:
    ○ Floor Jansen (Adagio),
    ○ Polina Gagarina (Adagio, Je t’aime),
    ○ Diana Ankudinova (Tomorrow is a lie, Ascolta la Voce),
    ○ Morissette Amon (Broken Vow),
    ○ Gabriel Henrique (Love by Grace),
    ○ Cakra Khan (Broken Vow),
    ○ Katrina Velarde (Broken Vow),
    ○ Regine Velasquez (Broken Vow),
    ○ Giulia Falcone (Adagio, Caruso, Je suis malade, Je t'aime),
    ○ Forestella (Je suis Malade),
    ○ Almira (from 4th Impact band) (Broken Vow),
    ○ Julie Anne san Jose (Broken Vow),
    ○ Rimar ( Adagio, Broken Vow, Know),
    ○ Il Divo (Adagio)
    ○ Daria Bentsa (I guess I loved you),
    ○ Sarah Geronimo (Broken Vow)
    ○ Laura Bretan ( Adagio, Caruso),
    ○ Jackie Evancho (Je t’aime, Caruso and Broken Vow, BV rewritten as « Imaginer » by Lara for Jackie),
    ○ Amir (Je t’aime),
    ○ Vitas (Adagio)
    ○ Anastasia Luna (Adagio),
    ○ Choi Sung Hoon (Je suis malade),
    ○ Majda Roumi (Adagio),
    ○ Petra Berger (Adagio, Broken Vow),
    ○ Katerina Maslova (Je t’aime, I guess I loved you)
    ○ ....
NB: Lara did cover Caruso , Je suis malade, and Love by grace, these are not her originals, but I mention these here as the related artists were attracted to cover it again after listening to Lara’s version.
Today, Lara still has an amazing voice and tone and can still reach the 5th octave with resonance ; she still offers these emotive renditions that are her unique signature.
In June 2022, she kicked off a WW tour and stunned her fans once again with 5 magical concerts in Canada. She completed the europe part in September/October and I attended a concert from this tour. It was packed and she was again spectacular.
Sorry if I was long, but I hope this gives some context on Lara.

Adagio is an italian word, that means "Slowly".
This is also used in music to define the pace of a music (a bit slow, between lento and andante) and also as a name of a piece of a sonate, concerto or symphony that is using that specific pace.
The music from this song of Lara Fabian is a pop translation of an italian classic piece called "Albinoni's Adagio". It was written in 1958 by Remo Giazotto who was an admirer of Albinoni, a musician from the 17th/18th century. He claimed it was from him and give his music this name but there is consensus today that he most probably has composed it himself.
The classic music piece is globally famous and there were many different translations into different songs, with different music composition and different lyrics (Daniele Licari, Sarah Brightman and Sissel Kyrkjebo for instance).
But the most famous version, by far, is Lara’s version: it was translated into a pop song for her, she wrote lyrics in english and italian for it and is the original performer of this new version.
She kept the title Adagio and wrote a story with a double meaning: a woman that is awaiting to find her love / an artist that is awaiting the god of inspiration.
This song has become a classic and has been covered by many : Shirley Bassey (!!), Dimash (Lara is his absolute idol and he covered several of her songs), Floor Jansen, Polina Gagarina, Giulia Falcone, Laura Bretan, Il Divo, Rimar, Vitas, Anastasia Luna, …
They made great covers but none of these match the amazing storytelling performance of Lara, or her ability to use vocal subtleties to be in sync with the music, exposed in her live from the concert From Lara with Love.
    ruclips.net/video/bqoS-KOLV_4/видео.html
Her italian version is also amazing.
You can check her recent rendition in Paris early october 2022

I appreciate you sharing this! I had to check the comment section to make sure someone mentioned the melody is Albinoni's Adagio. In my family there's a debate if this song should be sung, for us it's a very touching funeral song without lyrics. But, if anyone can sing it, it's Lara Fabian, her performance is so moving. I remember seeing another performance in which she was in tears herself and it was magical.

    • @kosmosyche

What I find most interesting about the history of this piece is that Remo Giazotto, after having composed one of the most beautiful compositions ever written (and he most definitely wrote it himself, there is no doubt about it now) made everything in his power to attribute it to his favorite Baroque composer Tomaso Albinoni. It was fairly easy for him to do because he was a musicologist, considered to be the best expert in the works of Albinoni. So he was not some random guy from the street, he was a serious and highly respected music scholar. But he basically made up the whole story about how he had found an old Albinoni manuscript in bombed Dresden right after the war with yet unknown Albinoni music written on it, which was this Adagio. And it was all BS. Of course, he's never shown that mythical manuscript to anyone and some time later people started to suspect something fishy was going on with his statements, started asking questions. He also AFAIK to his last days never admitted he wrote it and not Albinoni.
Anyway, the question remains: why did he do it? What was his motifs? He was definitely the real composer of the piece, why not call it Giazotto's Adagio (with dedication to Albinoni, if he wanted to stress his love for the old master composer) and make his own name really famous? Maybe even continue to compose, since the guy obviously had talent and knew how to do it very well. But nope, instead of doing something as simple and straightforward as that, he chose to mystify everyone for some unknown reason and never wrote anything else. I find this story very unusual and curious.

The music "ADAGIO" is a classic piece composed by the barok composer Tomaso Albinoni about 1700. It was "recomposed" in 1945 by Remo Giazotto. I think that Lara Fabian wrote the lyrics and released it in1999..

    Hi, Elvann.
You've done a fantastic job in his reaction. You are right that this arrangement of the song has a lot of jazzy effects and influences. It's also a very beautiful song allowing for much expression, however, the solo artist is the one who can make/enhance or break these expressions. In this song, Lara, the very rare professional artist who she is, makes all the difference. As you yourself refers to her technical vocal ability to do things, that forms a great part of her performance. Also, to bring to your attention...that she was already into the song before even uttering the first word of the song. So, too, at the end it took a moment for her to recover from the happenings in the song.
I like your reaction and would like to see you grow, showing, firstly, more of your experience as recording artist, and then as reactor.😊

Caruso: The song which made me a lifelong fan. It's just that gorgeous! At the end, the whole audience is simply compelled to get to their feet and give her a standing ovation. And so will you be.
Je Suis Malade: Her tour de force. Best ever performance of any song ever. Don't belive me? Just go look! And watch it to the very end, because it takes her about a minute to 'come back up' out of character.
Quedate: A sweet, delicious, spanish love song which is arguably less impressive than the above, but is flooringly charming in its own right.Especially if you have a soft spot for Spanish guitar.
Comme Ils Disent: You will never feel so close to an old, gay, transitive drag-show artist as when Lara Fabian introduces him/her to you. I can never hear this without crying just a little bit. Be sure to catch this ruclips.net/video/YL4EtvMxzhY/видео.html performance.

Hello Elvann from The Netherlands! There are so many suggestions I could make but I'll limit myself to a few 'stunners': Caruso (same concert), Je suis malade (same concert) and that last one followed by the same song from a different concert in 2003 (ruclips.net/video/BI6ysCN4CY0/видео.html). I actually found this last one even better. Completely different feel and emotions.....let me call it epic!

Greetings from Argentina, first I wanted to thank you enormously for the reaction to Lara. Dimash is a fan of hers, possibly they are living legends when it comes to singers. They are songs that should be heard all over the world, they are really songs extremely well executed at totally outstanding levels. Hopefully more singers of this level will appear and that those who are will last a long time and do not miss this music. I recommend some topics from her:

When she did the song for this show, she was afraid of not being able to do the high hold note with the high modulation at the end as she said it is difficult to do. When you listen this performance it's like she has no difficulty of doing it but when she's about to hold the note at the world "stay" you can see that she prepares herself physically to be able to do it.

Lara fabian adapted and wrote "Adagio" (which literally means "slowly") based on a historic Italian composition by Albinoni (Tomaso-Giovanni-Zuane-Albinoni Venice, June 8, 1671 - Venice, January 17, 1751 was a composer and Italian violinist, belonging to the musical season of the late Baroque.). In my opinion, a single voice in command as well as an exceptional polyglot, so much so that she sings in various languages. Gifted with great ease in singing in various languages, in her repertoire, mainly French, she also boasts many pieces in Italian, English, Spanish and interpretations in Portuguese, German, Turkish, Russian, Hebrew, Azeri, Greek, Neapolitan and Sicilian (these last two Italian dialects).

Very spot on and enjoyable analysis of Lara Fabian's Adagio. As FYI, Lara is a Canadian citizen, living in Montreal but grew up in Italy & Belgium. Like you, Lara was also classically trained having been at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels till the age of 18. Like Adagio, she writes much of her music. I'm sure you'll get many recommendations but one that I would suggest is the below link to Llora, another sone one she composed. This is also a Lara in her 40's ( not just barely 30 as per the Adagio performance). In addition, performed at one of the most incredible venues in the world - the Kremlin Palace. Again, really enjoyed your thoughts. Thanks!

This performance was from a Russian show that aired in the fall of 2021, and ran for 9 weeks. There were 9 singers who were also the judges and critiqued each other. There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course off the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles.
