Not all of downtown is bad. I would avoid certain parts but for the most part it's pretty good. I used to live there. Northern part of downtown close to Ellice Avenue is where I would be cautious.
@@amya.2882 Hello! Dont be afraid of Winnipeg. Despite what you read on the comment secrion and on the news, Winnipeg is a perfectly safe city. But just like any big city, there are certain areas to avoid. Not all of Toronto is safe, no? Not all of Vancouver and Montreal is safe. The same is true with Winnipeg. What you need to do is be street smart and use common sense. For example, I wouldnt be walking in downtown Winnipeg with a gold necklace around my neck. It will attract bad guys. But the same is true if you are in Toronto downtown or Vancouver. I wouldnt wear a gold necklace or display flashy items in public. Thats like asking for trouble. Crime in Winnipeg is concentrated in certain areas. These are poor neighborhood so it is not surprising. I would not recommend living or hanging out in the North End or the north part of downtown. West of downtown is also not desirable at night. Everything else is fine. You can find an interactive map online if you want to check where majority of the crime happen in Winnipeg. Bottomline is Winnipeg is just like any other first world big city. The crime rate is high in Canadian standards. But compared to other US cities it is safer. Dont be scared. Welcome to Winnipeg.
