I agree! As a Winnipegger, driving thru downtown Milwaukee was a very enjoyable moment of recognition. Milwaukee felt a fair bit bigger than Winnipeg tho, like it had many more of those buildings than we have.
That was a beautiful drive. I walked the Portage Avenue strip from Eaton's to the Bay many, many times. I moved away from Winnipeg 50 years ago. Many changes from back then but this brought back so many memories.
.. But how is it in winter? And what about mosquitoes? Do you find yourselves affected a lot by those? There are so many rumours of mosquitos and caterpillars in WPeg..??

At the 2:43 mark, look to the left. That's 300 Main Street. At the time this video was shot, it was just in its early stages of development. Today (April 7, 2021), the high rise building at 300 Main (though still under construction) is the Tallest Building in Manitoba. It towers over 360 Main (The TD building) right next to it and the Bell MTS building just opposite at Main and Pioneer.

I grew up in the Peg during the 60's ,70's & 80's. Great place to grow up but by the late 80's it was time to go and I have only been back briefly since then. There is no place like home they say but can't say I would return as those days are gone. It doesn't matter where you are now it's bleak.
I grew up in Southern Ontario, then was posted here and retired from the Forces just outside the city. The City is beautiful (depending on location) in the summer. Ive never seen so much green inside of a city before. During winter, it becomes the Ugliest city ever lol

Lived in Vancouver most of my life and the first thing I notice here is there's tons of parking on the streets. Something rare here in Van downtown. Also Winnipeg downtown is slow and laid back.

Spring and summer in Winnipeg are beautiful, but some people don't like first couple of weeks following the spring thaw, when the winter snow melts, leaving a whole season's accumulated dirt behind. We clean things up pretty quickly, though.

I live in winnipeg in the safer area, there's many beautiful places where I am as well. downtown may be a beautiful area, but one of the most dangerous places to go to and even live in, lots of crime and there are alot of homeless people and even gangs down in this area. I go downtown to just explore. I always stay in a vehicle though because there's always people who would try and follow you around or even try to take your stuff. So if anyone ever plans on going to the downtown area to explore please be careful and stay safe, we do have a lot of safe places here as well so not all of winnipeg is dangerous also amazing video!
Disagree. I work, shop, live and walk about downtown for the past 42 years. There are some spots to stay away from but by the most part, safe and gorgeous in summer. Assiniboine Ave, Edmonton, Hargrave, character buildings,. Suburbs lack soul, have no flavor.
There are places and times to avoid the downtown area - like any large city. But, for the most part downtown winnipeg is a safe place and there is so much to do - restaurants, theater, clubs, library, exchange district - all the old buildings which have been preserved - unique in north america ...

Tons of rockets (hot chicks) and patios are now open despite covid. Nightlife was actually pretty good before the pandemic, a few went out of business but will be back and relocated after restrictions.

@@cosslogan1043 In fairness, I've never lived in Saskatoon so I don't know what their transit is like. Winters in both cities are almost identical. There are more jobs in Winnipeg simply because the population is higher and the number of employers is bigger, but it really depends on the industry you're in. Saskatoon has more primary sector businesses but Winnipeg has more hi-tech jobs, like aerospace manufacturing. @@DaveGIS123 thanks for the info. I'm looking at Calgary, Edmonton or somewhere in Ontario, though Ontario is very expensive. Winnipeg is less expensive but again the winters, crime and transit was a concern I had. Transit would be better in AB but maybe less jobs, not sure.

I lived in Winnipeg for many years pre 1995 - it looks the same but the signage has changed...... I think I sought out the city only because it reminded me of my younger days.

Looking at the potential of a foreign exchange semester in Winnipeg (from UK). It’s obviously very beautiful, but I’m worried it might be too quiet for me - can anyone tell me if the student life is actually fun in terms of the night life & bars etc, is there anything to do?
Tonnes of great bars and places for young students. The city has a large amount of university students especially centered downtown
Tons of rockets (hot chicks) and patios are now open despite covid. Nightlife was actually pretty good before the pandemic, a few went out of business but will be back and relocated after restrictions.

@@cosslogan1043 In fairness, I've never lived in Saskatoon so I don't know what their transit is like. Winters in both cities are almost identical.
There are more jobs in Winnipeg simply because the population is higher and the number of employers is bigger, but it really depends on the industry you're in. Saskatoon has more primary sector businesses but Winnipeg has more hi-tech jobs, like aerospace manufacturing.

@@DaveGIS123 thanks for the info. I'm looking at Calgary, Edmonton or somewhere in Ontario, though Ontario is very expensive. Winnipeg is less expensive but again the winters, crime and transit was a concern I had. Transit would be better in AB but maybe less jobs, not sure.
Good video but looks more like 1080p. Thinking the Gopro doesn't do 4k video justice, but looks good nonetheless. Maybe try a sony 4k camera or camcorder. Some brilliant of the sights would be pretty nice.
