After seeing smbz episode 2, it was made clear that mark is still one of the best sprite animators around. We still have much to learn from him. The time has come for people to go outside the early 2000’s model of animation and explore what we can do if we apply standards of drawn 2-d animation to sprites. But first, I’m going to watch this one til I physically can’t watch it anymore.
If you want something that actually animated very differently from the 2000's Dbz style animations check out Franco animations his stuff actually looks very smooth and is animated like a well choreographed fight worth a look
See I like to think of super Mario brothers Z as one of the peak pinnacles of sprite animation because of it's constant ability to break the limits of and redefines sprite animations as a whole. And that mindset while I agree with you, I can still appreciate videos like this for pushing the limits of what we can do with an old style of animation but that's just me
I love that Luigi is the worst at fighting, but seems to be capable of putting out the highest amount of damage relative to the form he's in. He was capable of damaging SSBE Vegeta when even Hyper Sonic didn't think he'd be able to scratch him, At least not without that trip to the other galaxy. which is honestly a pretty impressive feat.
@@naraydaniels7832 I'm going to be honest. I actually like their opposites better lmao. I actually like the dub natsu a lot better. He's one of my favorite voice actors. He also voices Driftor who's a character in destiny 2. Dbz sub feels more natural to me, at least in the anime. I think the Japanese score is just too good.
I honestly like both of Natsu’s VA’s. Grey having his Japanese voice is more fitting, and the better of the two voices. But yeah, I couldn’t really stand DBZ sub

6:17 this part sent chills down my spine seriously, the amount of effort and creativity you put into these videos is insane you can make every fight so smooth and creative, and you can keep it going for a while with an intense feeling, i mean this video is 26 minutes long! and also, i like how you give all the characters an equal fighting chance most of the time much respect.

The levels of power exhibited in this is bloody incredible! As soon as you thought one fighter was down, there would be a higher power! This is one of the most exhilarating sprite animations I have ever seen! Keep up the brilliant work!
A couple of years ago I was worried about how Sprite Animations were starting to dissapear and I even wondered if we would ever see another Golden Age... But right now... with SMBZ's reboot, all of the new projects by both old and new animators, and the awesome community that has remained strong despite all the ups and downs... I feel as if I were a kid on Newgrounds all over again. Thank you so much for your work! And thank you to all of the other animators out there!

I love how Vegito comes into the scene and just controls the whole flow of the fight until the end. Just so in character. Then that last shot of his eye turning green showing he hasn't even gotten serious yet. YO, that's hype fantastic work can't wait til the next part.

OH MAN WHERE DO I START? I love this all around non-stop, borderline brain-melting action! It's all a non-stop continuous chase of cat-n-mouse that'll put someone on the edge of their seats due to you never knowing what will happen next! Everytime someone gets a higher level of power, here comes another person speeding around to compete and possibly surpass. This makes scenes where a character styles on and brutalizes everyone else MUCH more chaotic as it just shows how much power they're cranking! I also love the differences between the characters down to the miniature details. Mario and Luigi's teamwork and synergy. Sonic and Shadows raw speed. Goku and Vegeta's sheer power. My favorite scene has to be Hyper Chaos Shadow, and the sun fight scene. That was absolutely amazing, stunning, and all around high octane. however, I do wish some more time was spent with Knuckles and his side fight. But all around, it was very good all together! This was a cinematic masterpiece that oozes of skill, patience, determination and experience. VERY, good stuff! Can't wait to see what else crazy and creative sprites are brought within this series!
Wow I love reading chonky replies with lots of like these!!! Appreciate the time u took to write this! Cool that u noticed the difference between the Plumbers, Hedgehogs and Saiyans. Looking back tho, it is nothing compared to my current animation quality. Thus, after SASB 1 comes out, BoS4 will be on a whole nother level of sprite animation! Thanks for sticking around!
There are clear improvements in the animations from episode 1 up to 3, The first one looked good, but a little choppy. The second one improved on this with smoother animations. Now the third one looks so cinematic. I just don't know what new techniques were used that make the episodes so different from each other.
More framerate, better choreography, better timing and choice of perspectives, more effects aswell as sound effects. Lots of small thigns that when added up make a huge difference!
@@SpacePea I think the Timing and Perspective were what really improved in episode 2. In episode 1, characters would start and stop moving at a moment's notice. It looked unnatural. Glad you got super better at animating.

This was AMAZING to watch. The smooth animation and brisk pacing are things to praise here. Not to mention, the musical choices to accompany the battles truly bolstered the hype levels of this series. I'm definitely curious to see if Kirby and Meta Knight will return at all in the 4th battle, and if we'll see more of Knuckles, Wario, and Waluigi.
This is exactly what I love. No power scaling. No rules. Just pure action between all my favorite characters. Really good work! My only gripe is the "ran out of rings thing". I mean it makes for a more fair fight but if we really go off game logic then in Sonic Advance Sonic fought Eggman on the moon as Super Sonic for 2 days (or at least he was just in the form for 2 days). Besides that this video was really great!

@real bf I know Luigi deserves more forms like Dark Hyper Star Cape Luigi, or Darkspine Hyper Star Cape Luigi, or Hyper Star Cape White Fox Luigi (just like 7:29-Hyper Star Cape White Raccoon Mario), or even both of them, but that Hyper Star Cape Luigi without pupils from his eyes, and with full power of his green thunder powers from his hands wasn't really a form, so it's just the same Hyper Star Cape Luigi, but without pupils from his eyes, and with full power beyond his green thunder powers from his hands, well i mean, maybe not quite beyond his green thunder powers from his hands
To me this is the best sprite animation of the year so far choreography was incredible the powers were used creatively so many transformations and having Mario and Luigi fuse my only problem dark hyper Sonic wish he was in longer but 20/10 amazing and I’m excited for super all star bros and bos 4

Can we just take a moment to appreciate that despite being outclassed once by Chaos Hyper Shadow, and again by two fusions and Mecha Sonic, Mario’s still out here trying his best even in weaker forms?
That was the most intense battle I've ever seen!! And I know Goku can fusion with Vegeta and same for Sonic and Shadow, but I can't you put a power up that allows Mario and Luigi to fusion! Can't wait to see how its like in part 4. Good luck on that one.

and to criticize something that i think would have been better, it's sonic. I think it would have been awesome to give hyper sonic a power up something like hyper sonic evolved that would have made him in the same league of vegeta sssb evolved. I know there already is the dark hyper form but it's more something of a last resort like UI not a new transformation like ssb evoled for exemple.
@@loloh5441 dark hyper form is most definitely stronger than hyper shadow without inhibitor rings. And shadow should have died after he retransformed from hyper to base without his inhibitors. And Mario was waaaaaaaaaaaaay to strong. Mario is definitely the second weakest out of everyone fighting (second to Luigi).

Bro Shadow was at least as strong than Goku Ui omen and he kept his own against MUI, he detrsanformed just because he didn't have enouch ring. In the other hand Sonic was being destroyed by Vegeta and in his dark form we didn't saw that muxh from him he just hit him a couple time before being taken down by the final explosion. I think we need space pea to tell us if he wanted dark hyper sonic and chaos hyper shadow to as strong as the other or not. And gor Mario dont forget that he has two boost plus the hyper form, and he is the main character of his world lol.
@@loloh5441 I’m saying canonically (even tho dark sonic isn’t cannon) dark sonic is a lot stronger than super sonic and mixing that with hyper sonic should making him stronger than hyper shadow without his inhibitor rings. We saw in 06 that shadow without his inhibitor rings is strong but definitely not as strong as super shadow. And the reason I said shadow should have died is because in sa2 shadow died from the strain of going super but later controlled it. If that was shadows first time going hyper without inhibitor rings he should’ve died as soon as he lost all of his rings. But this is just me being kinda salty that sonic had to sit back and watch while shadow fought knowing damn well that sonic is stronger or equal to shadow. The animation was great but I wish sonic didn’t get nerfed so hard.
@@loloh5441 and Mario shouldn’t have been able to use the hyper form because the chaos emeralds cannot be used by someone who isn’t from there universe (shown in sonic rush or rush adventure I can’t remember) and the chaos emeralds power can’t just be used by anyone (hence shadow dying from the strain in sa2)
This is my third rewatch and I am always so happy when animators put aside powerscaling like any competent crossover writer, but even with my aversion to powerscaling and the typical shonen thing of growth just being shown by a bigger number, it's dawning on me that Natsu is going to be eating VEGITO level flames for the first part of the next one. That's gonna get ugly and it's gonna get great.
Oh yeah, Next one is gonna be the end I would suppose, Unless for some reason out of nowhere Vegito defuses and becomes Gogeta and The others have to fight unfused or something. Either that, or I have no idea

You're all forgetting one thing.. Mechadrix may exist in the final part. It has been addressed that he could evolve into that form in the "Shadic VS Metallix" video a year ago.

This got me thinking of how terrifying it would be if Shadow never got his memories back, continued to hate humanity and had full control over his full power without needing the inhibitor rings
The thing is to me is that this is not only a amazing sprite animation. This almost feels like what the imagination of my 9 year old self would picture a sprite animation. A bunch of characters fighting at the peak of there power. This in a way felt very special to me and I wanna praise the work you put into this.

I love Vegito's war cry at 20:06. It sounds so badass and I wasn't expecting Vegito to use a Fire Flower from the Mario series to become Fire Vegito. If Vegito is that strong with that power-up, I can't image Fire Vegito going Super Saiyan or Super Saiyan Blue. Though Fire Vegito is going to look super cool if he goes Super Saiyan God. These sprite animations are so entertaining!
The part that I liked the most was when goku, mario and shadow go to space and then to the sun and also the scene after credits and don't suck, how many characters are you going to put on, they were going to be like twelve and now they were going to be like fifteen but just as good fight was spectacular

Words can not describe how awesome this was, like seriously, I was expecting this to be amazing but this was beyond that, this was a freaking master piece, top 3 sprite animation of the year are definetly this one, Mario Bros Calamity Episode 1 and Super Mario Bros Z Reboot Episode 2, without a doubt, the fights, the art, the dialogue, the comedy, gosh if I were to listen everything that I loved I would have to basically retell the entire video, because there's not a thing that I didn't love it, *AND THEN YOU DO WHAT YOU DID ON THE POST CREDIT SCENE AND YOU JUST MADE ME EVEN MORE HYPED FOR THE NEXT ONE* To make it short, this was fantastic, it exceeded all my expectations and I am so looking forward to Super All-Star Bros Episode 1 and BoS 4

I love that Luigi is the worst at fighting, but seems to be capable of putting out the highest amount of damage relative to the form he's in. He was capable of damaging SSBE Vegeta when even Hyper Sonic didn't think he'd be able to scratch him, At least not without that trip to the other galaxy. which is honestly a pretty impressive feat.

He also voices Driftor who's a character in destiny 2. Dbz sub feels more natural to me, at least in the anime. I think the Japanese score is just too good.

A couple of years ago I was worried about how Sprite Animations were starting to dissapear and I even wondered if we would ever see another Golden Age...
But right now... with SMBZ's reboot, all of the new projects by both old and new animators, and the awesome community that has remained strong despite all the ups and downs... I feel as if I were a kid on Newgrounds all over again.

I love how Vegito comes into the scene and just controls the whole flow of the fight until the end. Just so in character. Then that last shot of his eye turning green showing he hasn't even gotten serious yet. YO, that's hype fantastic work can't wait til the next part.

OH MAN WHERE DO I START?
I love this all around non-stop, borderline brain-melting action! It's all a non-stop continuous chase of cat-n-mouse that'll put someone on the edge of their seats due to you never knowing what will happen next! Everytime someone gets a higher level of power, here comes another person speeding around to compete and possibly surpass.
This makes scenes where a character styles on and brutalizes everyone else MUCH more chaotic as it just shows how much power they're cranking!
I also love the differences between the characters down to the miniature details.
Mario and Luigi's teamwork and synergy.
Sonic and Shadows raw speed.
Goku and Vegeta's sheer power.
My favorite scene has to be Hyper Chaos Shadow, and the sun fight scene. That was absolutely amazing, stunning, and all around high octane.
however, I do wish some more time was spent with Knuckles and his side fight. But all around, it was very good all together!
This was a cinematic masterpiece that oozes of skill, patience, determination and experience. VERY, good stuff!
Can't wait to see what else crazy and creative sprites are brought within this series!

Appreciate the time u took to write this! Cool that u noticed the difference between the Plumbers, Hedgehogs and Saiyans. Looking back tho, it is nothing compared to my current animation quality. Thus, after SASB 1 comes out, BoS4 will be on a whole nother level of sprite animation!

There are clear improvements in the animations from episode 1 up to 3,
The first one looked good, but a little choppy.
The second one improved on this with smoother animations.
Now the third one looks so cinematic.
I just don't know what new techniques were used that make the episodes so different from each other.
More framerate, better choreography, better timing and choice of perspectives, more effects aswell as sound effects. Lots of small thigns that when added up make a huge difference!
@@SpacePea I think the Timing and Perspective were what really improved in episode 2.
In episode 1, characters would start and stop moving at a moment's notice. It looked unnatural. Glad you got super better at animating.

Really good work! My only gripe is the "ran out of rings thing". I mean it makes for a more fair fight but if we really go off game logic then in Sonic Advance Sonic fought Eggman on the moon as Super Sonic for 2 days (or at least he was just in the form for 2 days). Besides that this video was really great!

and to criticize something that i think would have been better, it's sonic. I think it would have been awesome to give hyper sonic a power up something like hyper sonic evolved that would have made him in the same league of vegeta sssb evolved. I know there already is the dark hyper form but it's more something of a last resort like UI not a new transformation like ssb evoled for exemple.
@@loloh5441 dark hyper form is most definitely stronger than hyper shadow without inhibitor rings. And shadow should have died after he retransformed from hyper to base without his inhibitors. And Mario was waaaaaaaaaaaaay to strong. Mario is definitely the second weakest out of everyone fighting (second to Luigi).

Bro Shadow was at least as strong than Goku Ui omen and he kept his own against MUI, he detrsanformed just because he didn't have enouch ring. In the other hand Sonic was being destroyed by Vegeta and in his dark form we didn't saw that muxh from him he just hit him a couple time before being taken down by the final explosion. I think we need space pea to tell us if he wanted dark hyper sonic and chaos hyper shadow to as strong as the other or not. And gor Mario dont forget that he has two boost plus the hyper form, and he is the main character of his world lol.
@@loloh5441 I’m saying canonically (even tho dark sonic isn’t cannon) dark sonic is a lot stronger than super sonic and mixing that with hyper sonic should making him stronger than hyper shadow without his inhibitor rings. We saw in 06 that shadow without his inhibitor rings is strong but definitely not as strong as super shadow. And the reason I said shadow should have died is because in sa2 shadow died from the strain of going super but later controlled it. If that was shadows first time going hyper without inhibitor rings he should’ve died as soon as he lost all of his rings. But this is just me being kinda salty that sonic had to sit back and watch while shadow fought knowing damn well that sonic is stronger or equal to shadow. The animation was great but I wish sonic didn’t get nerfed so hard.
@@loloh5441 and Mario shouldn’t have been able to use the hyper form because the chaos emeralds cannot be used by someone who isn’t from there universe (shown in sonic rush or rush adventure I can’t remember) and the chaos emeralds power can’t just be used by anyone (hence shadow dying from the strain in sa2)

This is my third rewatch and I am always so happy when animators put aside powerscaling like any competent crossover writer, but even with my aversion to powerscaling and the typical shonen thing of growth just being shown by a bigger number, it's dawning on me that Natsu is going to be eating VEGITO level flames for the first part of the next one. That's gonna get ugly and it's gonna get great.

Goddamn! This was amazing SpacePea! I loved the chereography, and all of the insane fusions between characters and crazy power-ups were really amazing! Once again you've impressed everyone SpacePea!
This got me thinking of how terrifying it would be if Shadow never got his memories back, continued to hate humanity and had full control over his full power without needing the inhibitor rings
The thing is to me is that this is not only a amazing sprite animation. This almost feels like what the imagination of my 9 year old self would picture a sprite animation. A bunch of characters fighting at the peak of there power. This in a way felt very special to me and I wanna praise the work you put into this.

I love Vegito's war cry at 20:06. It sounds so badass and I wasn't expecting Vegito to use a Fire Flower from the Mario series to become Fire Vegito. If Vegito is that strong with that power-up, I can't image Fire Vegito going Super Saiyan or Super Saiyan Blue. Though Fire Vegito is going to look super cool if he goes Super Saiyan God. These sprite animations are so entertaining!

The part that I liked the most was when goku, mario and shadow go to space and then to the sun and also the scene after credits and don't suck, how many characters are you going to put on, they were going to be like twelve and now they were going to be like fifteen but just as good fight was spectacular

Words can not describe how awesome this was, like seriously, I was expecting this to be amazing but this was beyond that, this was a freaking master piece, top 3 sprite animation of the year are definetly this one, Mario Bros Calamity Episode 1 and Super Mario Bros Z Reboot Episode 2, without a doubt, the fights, the art, the dialogue, the comedy, gosh if I were to listen everything that I loved I would have to basically retell the entire video, because there's not a thing that I didn't love it, *AND THEN YOU DO WHAT YOU DID ON THE POST CREDIT SCENE AND YOU JUST MADE ME EVEN MORE HYPED FOR THE NEXT ONE*
To make it short, this was fantastic, it exceeded all my expectations and I am so looking forward to Super All-Star Bros Episode 1 and BoS 4
