I read that since Annie was very pregnant when this video was made, she didn't want to be the sole focus of it so she didn't have to put in as much work, so they decided to get a bunch of people to impersonate her different looks. Many of those who auditioned were drag queens. She was laughing so hard she had to duck under the seats in the theater so as not to offend the performers.
It was a nationwide competition - I forget the magazine or programme through which it was run - the challenge was to audition as an Annie Lennox look-alike.
I wonder if she was pregnant with her daughter Lola.

"Little bird" is my absolute favourite Annie Lennox song. I'm also partial to "Thorn in my side" and "When Tomorrow comes."
I LOVE that she included a performer in her Freddie Mercury Tribute dress and make up.
I think more than any other performer at that concert, she paid homage to Freddie’s love of theatricality.

OMFG! You listened to "Little Bird" and I am SO excited!!!! Plus, we love the music video, which pays homage to all of Annie Lennox's iconic looks.
Oh man, this is her very best solo offering ovr the years, just gives me goosebumps every time. I would definitely recommend Love Song For a Vampire from Bram Stoker's Dracula. HAUNTING. Also Eurythmics' Miracle of Love gets overlooked far too frequently, it's genuinely epic.
I believe Annie performed this at the London 2012 Olympic closing ceremony. We'll have to deal with the angel in this song in another reaction.
PLEASE review Cold from her Diva album. To me it’s one of the best songs she has written. A lyrical and melodic masterpiece

I'd love to see you react to Cold from Diva. It's one of Annie's favourites and the lyrics are amazing. The other Annie's in this video were partly there because she was heavily pregnant with her second Daughter and was trying not to overdo things.
I’ve seen her perform “Cold” live three times and each time she sang “Dying is easy, it’s living that scares me to death” the audience spontaneously applauded. That simple but profound verse strikes a chord with so many people.

She's truly one of a kind. This song might not be my favorite of hers but it's still really good and I love the video. Great reaction too Anton. Other songs by Annie to pick would be "Love song for a Vampire", "When Tomorrow Comes", "Thorn in my Side" and "The Miracle of Love". Also did you know the song "Step by Step", which was a big hit for Whitney Houston, is written by Annie (Annie herself released it as a B-side to her song "Precious" in 1992), she even provides the backing vocals, another great song to check out.
I love Step by Step my favourite from the DIVA era it's a hidden gem and Whitney's version rocks too.

Coincidentally her song sweet dreams encapsulate what's happening to my country right now and it's a reality check for me with regards to the kind of society we have in our nation after our election.
I found a wonderful interview with MSNBC that Annie had not too long ago. I highly recommend it to everyone that discovered Annie Lennox though these wonderful reaction videos that Anton does such an in depth job on his reaction videos which must take a lot of time. We appreciate it ARC. It will be fascinating for all the newer Annie fans and the ones like myself that are so long in the tooth I remember "Sweet Dreams (are made of this)" hit the radios in the US and that became a last quarter anthem for those of us in Middle School following right into Summer break. I have caught it on the radio at least once every year since 1984. Their other things might not have the long-term airplay of Sweet Dreams but all of their work was worthy of the same rotation on the radio. Thank Goodness they are finally being inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; I think Annie will become the second woman inducted into the RRHOF twice, folowing in the footprints of the original Diva that needed time away from her band, Fleetwood Mac which was inducted many moons ago, their lead sorceress, Stevie Nicks was inducted as the first woman to be inducted twice into the Hall of Fame, but I cannot imagine them leaving her solo work as non-hall worthy, the lyrical twists that went into her songs was phenomenal solo career. I didn't hear you mention it, but did you notice she was pregnant in the video? Also, the big haired blonde is Siobhan Fahey, former member of Bananarama and Shakespeare's Sister....also David Stewart's wife.
I love Annie Lennox, what a voice. Have had this CD in my car for several months. I alternate with a Manhattan Transfer CD. I think my favorite video is her cover of 'Wait in Vain' on her Medusa CD (which the entire CD is her doing covers)
As an American I am embarrassed that this song got ZERO radio airplay. We only discovered it by watching " Strip Tease". Demi Moore danced to this twice in the movie.
What is fantastic in this video is all the Annie look-a-likes from her (and Eurythmics) past videos. Of course you have to know the videos to understand the references. ;)

I could listen to your reactions all day Anton, the way you analyse and interpret the music and lyrics of all the artists you listen to is so enjoyable. I have watched many of your reactions but particularly enjoyed this track and how you lost yourself as the track built and built. I feel incredibly proud of the fact that's she's from my home city of Aberdeen on the North East Coast of Scotland and have loved her performances since starting her journey in the Tourists. Keep up the good work, your one of the best mate. 👍
As far as the lyrics I see it as a person feeling trapped the bird in the sky is free, she needs to let go of what is holding her back, she is afraid and the big city doesn't make it easier, she needs to lay her burden down and free herself, she needs the courage "We reap what we so" in this case she is doing it to herself. Falling out of the nest, maybe fired, and now is the time to see if she can fly free like the bird in the sky.

You've got some great insights here, both with the lyrics and her multiple 'identities' in this video; the decision to leave the comfortable nest of Eurythmics and launching herself with some uncertainty into her solo career, and marking a new chapter in her life and another identity.

That said I have watched this video multiple times but never noticed her pregnant before. But I can see it now in the video. Also Fabulous book self, I recognize most of the books have read a couple of them, plus G.o.T. Bookend?? and MGT cards. Man of all my tastes. And also you are so correct she has done many genres of music. "Sweet Dreams" brought me into her and I have never gone back. Tourist, Eurythmics, Solo. It's Alright to ke is one of her best songs (with Dave) and also one of her most underappreciated. The video is very minimalist and very late 80s but her voice is simply amazing. Even if you don't review it on the channel, I suggest you watch it.
I always thought this video was her declaration that she needs to fly. All of her old Eurythmics' characters are there floating around and at the end are fighting for position. But in the end we close with her, eyes wide open, and smiling.She breakthrough.
i'm sure i will be repeating things others have already written, but wanted to add my take as a fan of her from day one. she was very much pregnant when this video was made. the director and her worked together on this to keep her work to a minimum. the decision was to bring in impersonators to do most of the work, and place her in a black outfit to try to hide her stomach. while auditioning performers, they didn't know she was there watching. unfortunately, she was having such a good time that she would almost give herself away and need to hide from view. many of those auditioning were drag kings and queens. the characters of her that appear in this video are from the videos for the songs "sweet dreams", "there must be an angel", "thorn in my side", "beethoven", "i need a man", "why", "walking on broken glass", & the freddie mercury tribute.

Also in the interview she explained the Little Bird video, I assume she was nursing her first born, LoLa; and was about to drop Sia, so she said the video was done in her home so she didn't want to go very far from home and she thought all the characters just made the video so much fun, closing with I think "Little Bird"being her favorite video. Followed quickly by, "oops maybe I should not have said that because most of my audience would probably pick another one.
