What if the Gravity Gun is just a badass magnet? Let me elaborate, electrons make up EVERYTHING, and electrons can be manipulated magnetically. It's true that most materials dont interact with everyday magnets but that's only because we dont have a strong enough magnet to interact with the electrons in said objects and materials (like rubber tires) so what if the gravity gun just hyper magnetizes things, charges them with a specific magnetic structure, then briefly reverses the poles on its manipulating armature to repel the object away? SCIENCE!!
The problem with this is that magnets pull on things differently based on the material. Also if you were to use something like that on a wire loop(electric motors, transformers, inductors which happen to be in almost all electronics) the result would be even more terrifying. It takes 10T to lift a frog, so lets say the gun is 100 times that strong or 1000T; the gun can go from attracting to repealing within a second so that means 2000T change in 1 second; take a transformer that has 1000 windings and .5m2(in reality a transformer has two coils one small one big, but we only need one for an example). This would give a voltage of (1000)(1000)(.5)/1=500,000 volts. And keep in mind that voltage wouldn't drop when when a current is drown from it like most high voltage sources(unless the mag field loses straighten).
It IS called the Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator, so I don't think it's a magnet. It has something to do with zero point energy although i'm not exactly sure how.
At that point the magnetic field would cause induction on everything, probably causing spontaneous combustions while also ripping the iron from your own red blood cells. I mean, if it's going to pull nonferrous material, ferrous material will certainly be attracted even more.
You're all focusing on the wrong thing, the gravity gun is called the Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator because it uses 'zero point energy' as its power source and it MANIPULATES FIELDS. From wiki: In physics, a field is a physical quantity that has a value for each point in space and time. It doesn't have to be the gravitational field either, gravity gun is just a fun name for the thing. It could manipulate the magnetic field, or the strong interaction field (both of which are insanely more strong than gravity). This would also explain why the GG can affect things only in front of it - if it can manipulate the field itself, it doesn't have to create perfectly spherical forces, it could for example change the field vectors on the very edge of an object, essentially aplying force to it. Now that I think of it, using the strong interaction wouldn't be a very good idea - whenever used, the GG would probably just rip apart the atomic bonds holding an object together.
I always imagine that Austin actually does send the script to the video in an e-mail to the people he starts the video with and, while I'm assuming he doesn't, it's still funny to think of the responses he'd get from all of this.
there are two ways for this gun to work The first option is mass, like you said. But the second option is something we can't do yet, artificially generate and manipulate a gravity field.
it's alot more fun to speculate using things we already know than to say "oh well, guess it's something we don't know how to do yet" Just my opinion though
bruh even if you manipulate the field you cant control what will it drag to itself so you would be probably sucked into gravity gun and become a yogurt
ElucarioYEAH: But actually learning something means you have to have an interest in it at some point. Whenever you learn something that gets committed to memory and develops understanding of something that you previously didn't understand, it caught your interest. Even though it might've been imperceptible. (for instance: I used to involuntarily learn the lyrics to Britney Spears songs, despite the fact that I hate her music, but on some unconscious level they must have caught my interest somehow) Since the purpose of a school is to teach students, being able to make the students interested in the subject they're being taught should reasonably be considered pretty basic. If a videogame then manages to get someone interested in learning science to the point where they understand something they previously didn't, then you could say that the school failed... Or that video games and certain forms of entertainment can be a superior method of teaching some people... Which would yet again be true in my case, since english is a second language for me, and I learned almost nothing of it in school but mostly from watching films and television-series in english but with subtitles in my native tounge (and reading a shitload of books in english, as well as playing video games in english) The schools need to step up their game, because they are getting beat by the entertainment industry. :P
Well, it's called "the gravity gun" but, yeah, using something else like an electromagnetic field to move stuff around would be much much more efficient. Of course how the gun doesn't just get ripped from your hand and go flying toward something if it was too heavy is beyond me.
Cave Johnson himself has already pretty much stated this. In a video that briefly shows a dissected Portal Gun you can see just how broken the physics are in that game. How this one guy managed to make a Wormhole generator by trying to re-innovate Shower Curtains and where you can place them, yet also manages to be the same guy that thought that Piston firing bullets was a good idea, I will never know.

Still, considering that Gordon doesn't really wear a helmet, and the radiation sound does get pretty crazy sometimes and how you can die when you are in radioactive water and whatnot, kinda makes you think.

imTheMrBEAN Half-Life 2's characters could have used a previously acquired crystal from the border-world, Xen, in which said crystals are abundant, seen in the first game to construct the ZPEF Manipulator long before the events of the game.
It's pretty much visible on the Gravity Gun's "Barrel". Also, Eli showed Gordon a miniature version of the Anti-Mass Spectrometer, complete with a Xen Crystal Sample, during his brief stay on Black Mesa East. It could be possible it's an excess from the piece he used on the Gravity Gun.
I did read somewhere that hard light is possible. but it loses energy (light) as fast as it can gather it, but it does form a solid mass. just don't put your hand in it.

Gamma rays are high-energy photons, meaning they're basically a type of light, which, as mentioned in the video, assuredly is affected by gravity. Containing it would be wicked hard though, like trying to contain visible light, but worse because it's so high energy.
Yes you could theoretically build a gamma ray gun it is the same concept as a microwave you would just need to direct the energy and supercharge the microwave because gamma rays are extremely high energy where as microwaves are relatively low
Wait. We need an explanation of how the head crabs work. They make you grow claws it looks like, you have a hole in your torso for some reason, and a better question HOW DOES IT TAKE OVER YOUR BODY!
Dylan Hull Well, technically, they peel the skin off your skull and attach themselves to it, and with a beak in the back of their holes they penetrate into the spine and take control of one's nervous system. Or so I read on the wiki.
Miloš Golubović that still leads to a lot of questions but it still leaves the question: how does it take over your nervous system? Most parasites are small and require a host to live but head tabs are more predatory creatures, yet they use captured bodies to transport themselves, yet the bodies move slower than them 90% of the time
Dylan Hull If you look at the dead zombie models, there's clearly a large hole in the top of the skull the headcrab breaks through with a "beak". It's also mentioned that Lamarr is "debeaked". The hole in one's torso is a mouth for eating, since the normal mouth is quite obviously covered up. Also, eventually, they mature or produce the Gonarchs that complete the life cycle. The ones seen in Half-Life 2 have been modified for combine use as weapons, which is why they do not mature in to later forms like those even occasionally seen in Black Mesa (Opposing Force)
Dear Austin, I have a request for a SCIENCE! episode on Half-Life 2... again. I mean you did like a dozen episodes on Fallout 4 so...: What's that huge energy ball that is the power source of the Citadel. And by extention... how does it work? Is it plasma? Is it a fusion reactor? How did it get instable after Half Life 2? What are those yellow energy balls that float arround in the "energy pipes?" and that you shoot out of the rilfe? Are thsoe they connected? How is it controlled, since it has to be ultra hot if it is either plasma or a fusion reactor and melts everything it comes in contact with, but Gordon Freeman can just walk just next to it. How do you controll it? Magnetic field? What about the Heat then? How the fuck does it create a super portal to the combine homeworld after explosion? Did it create a dimenstional rift? a pseudo black hole of sorts? a wormhole? Did it even had to do with that? But if not, how was it created then? By the small yellow ones that float up there during the protal was established? yeah right, like those small yellow ones would have enaugh power to establish a interplanetary connection... do they? How can the portal still be active after the main power source of the Citadel blew up? btw. how much power would a plasmaball or a fusion ractor have to have to blow up city 17? And how the fuck did the rocket in Episode 2 disconnect the portals? And of corse how much energy does the core have? Sincerely, Souvereign
If you're talking about how it works I would have to imagine it being like a blanket effect that covers a combatant or a ship. Halo for instance where an energy shield will fail after being hit in the same spot repeatedly taking down most of the shield for a time, meaning that it has to cover the entire thing it is generating the shield to protect. As far as feasibility it's not possible now, but there are prototypes for things like active camouflage on tanks. Science wise I have no idea how it works, other than the explanation of "Shut up, don't worry about it, it just works."
I mean the shields you can shoot through, but your enemy can not, one way energy shields, that are present in many different games. Not the regenerating protective aura.
Elder Maxson Ah, okay. That I'm not sure on, but more than likely the muzzle of the weapon would probably have to be just outside of the shield to work correctly, so the protective aura would probably work better as it just protects the user or vehicle.
I think the gravity gun contains the souls of every gravity physicist ever to exist, mainly due to the sheer GRAVITY of the concept... Ok I will stop now.
Possibility: can it instead be using a type of magnetism that adapts to the materials targeted? Like, I can attract almost anything, but the field when super charged can effectively cook people
I agree. I have lifted many radiators and cast iron or not, there is no way that would weigh 340kg. Not disparaging the science in the video, hell knows a lot of effort went into it but that radiator does not weigh that much.
Maybe you should get a sense of humor xD He did say GOD DAMN TERRIFYING in the video so he was quoting correctly. Looks like someone didn't watch the video before mocking people :P
Ok I will simplify it: the gravity gun basically destroys the universe every time it is used, eventually resetting reality and everything in it. Talk about a redcon.
Dylan Hull That's going a bit overboard. It's more like a black hole in mass. The universe has plenty of those and it's still here. Earth should be _wrecked_ tho, every time. And the amount of radiation that thing would release? Yeah... Freeman should be dead, and everyone on the planet should be cooked.
Jeoshua Collins at least you realized about the part of being turned to a cloud of several thousand degree gas from it. But yeah something like that which seems to be able to pick up a sphere that looks like it contains a sphere of anti-matter or a black hole would probably destabilize the universe when used.
Here's where's you're wrong: you assume the Gravity Gun creates a gravity field akin to a star a person or any blob you can reduce to a single point to simply the math. It's actually a switch that opens portals to set of massive objects arranged in such a way to form a linear (conical really) gravity pit right before the gun, allowing you to grab merely the things you point it at and not the entirety of space and time around you. Your science was okay, you just had to think with portals ;)
yes it is a conical force, but it's not necessarily a portal. The device itself just needs to stabilize itself to prevent the force from going elsewhere. Or this could be a case of misnomer as its called the zero point energy gun by other scientists, so it's more likely a vacuum pulling in objects.
and if, for whatever reason, the containment failed, it would unleash an extinction level event in the form of a massive singularity...goodbye planet and everything on it
No, you would keep falling unless the person is sitting, if they were standing then it would merely decelerate your fall and in the were sitting, it would break their skull and a few other bones, along with most vital organs
Dylan Hull Depending on how you fall on them, a standing person may cushion your fall, but in the end, it is possible to survive the fall if you don't drop from too high
It is unknown was the "Gravity-Gun" built within Combine Technologies or during Black Mesa. Being more Combin-ish fits the facts and lore, and another interesting fact: DoG carries the same gun in his right hand, that's not all. Dog's legs are Universal Union's Mech legs, like most parts from him. He was constructed both with human and, i think, mostly Combine technology. After "Seven-Hour War", Overworld Army left Earth, leaving a small division on it called "Overwatch", in most cases - Overwatch Transhuman Arm (OTA) These... things, must prove themselves to be a part of the Universal Union (Combine) So most of horrifying synths and mechs are not here. And "DoG" could be one of these things, which was picked up as a scrap after this war. "Resistance" rebuilt it and baym! - made a gravity gun on it's own, sine the first one WAS IN "DOG'S" HAND AS A WEAPON DURING THIS WAR. Did i mentioned the part where "Combine" are actually "Universal Union"... UNIVERSAL... Maybe they have their own laws of Physics in their, so called, "Overworld". Maybe they found a way to filter radiation inside this gun? As well as a knockback force, by sending props fly. Gravity Gun is described by Human Physics, but was that thing built by humans in a first place? Well, Half-Life has so many fucking sick shit, this is the finest of all of them...
I didn't want to necropost, but I saw no one replied so, I remember a few years ago reading a cannon Portal comic, Lab Rat was the name I believe, and in one of the pages there was a gravity gun laying in one of the tables, that part of the comic happened before the black mesa incident, so I think its safe to assume the gravity gun doesn't have much to do with the combine, although the design could have been improved with combine tech, that is up to speculation.
The Garg while the combine are from an alternate universe, they are not from an alternate fundamental universe. Which means they can travel through the 5th dimension, and not the 7th.
it was bult during black mesa considering they used one to put the xen crystal in the anti mass spectrometer. albeit it was much more bulkier back then and likely was made much smaller using combine tech.
You must remember though, the gun is able to shoot things because it has xen crystals in it. We don't know what that implies but it's also the shit that apparently prevents black holes in xen so whatever
It’s zero Point energy, not gravity. It’s name in the weapon switch menu calls it the zero Point energy field manipulator. (Zero Point energy gun in episode 1 and episode 2)
One thing I don't understand is, how is it flinging the objects outwards? And why does the momentum not affect you? For every action, there's an equal opposite reaction, ergo, does that mean that the gravity gun absorbs the momentum that should be pushing you back??? Or do I misunderstand the physics of this. Austin. HALP
The light explanation also explains away the "visible light problem" under a young earth model. Local space time versus universal space time. Does not support big bang theory
We actually can't be sure if it works using gravity, it's real name is "zero point energy field manipulator" gravity gun is just the short name that alyx gave it, so it could very well work using chicken farts, and alyx just named it that cuz it pulls stuff towards it, kinda like gravity
RiokuTheSlayer Wait what does relativity have to do with the composition of light? I though the generally accepted idea was that light is a photon, a discrete packet of electromagnetic energy, that exists as both a wave and particle. It was shown to behave like a wave by the double slit experiment, and a particle due to the photoelectric effect. I just don't see how this means relativity contradicts quantum physics? Does relativity say that light is just a particle, or just a wave but not both?
please tell us how the hell the portal gun works please! I love portal and it was the first game I played on my Xbox360 and it's one of my favorite games of all time
That... That is enough magnetism to pull all the plasma out of the damn sun.... And how the hell would it pick up wood and cement? So yes, unless the wood is imbued with iron and the cement is reinforced with iron or another magnetic material, I think magnetism is out of the question. And yes. Plasma is affected by magnetism. They made a machine for containing plasma with magnets. Powerful magnets. But it is not much plasma. I used a lot of periods didn't I?
Flint Saraphali the stronger the magnetism, the farther it goes. And it is a bit obvious it isn't using magnetism due to the fact EVERYTHING you suck towards you travels at the same speed, no matter what, so maybe it is just using some kind of funneled vacuum, some kind of auto adjusting vacuum that started shooting and sucking air at the same time once an object gets too close. I have a lot of far fetched ideas.
I adore coming back to this video, and being fascinated by the monologue about Einstein and how wondrous his pondering on whether/how “____” makes sense was such a humble first approach to how he revolutionized his field. Thank you, Austin.
At least for me, it is the story, combined with a great artwork of the "post apocalyptic world" and the creative way the levels were designed. It just seem to fit perfectly in any aspect.Play it for yourself, it is worth it :)
the gravity gun uses exotic particles from a parallel universe to create gravity in our universe without creating black holes every time you use it, so in short the gravity gun is a micro portal generator that is allowing "gravity" force to enter from another universe where all the deadly particles go to the other universe and thus only allowing a fraction of that force to be manipulated in our universe thank me later
i thought it'd be something along the lines of it has a tiny ball of gravity in the gun, which what the guns design is about, controlling it (how is it possible... XD) but the only gate it has to affect the outside world is through that cone. Maybe the front part is it lessening its raw powa for it to be usable. but thats just my confuzzled mind at a rugby game thinking im playing cards
MCNT052 It's just a catchy nickname for it. The actual name of the gravity gun is called the "Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator." I'm pretty sure that the gravity gun is more of attraction and repulsion of objects, not gravity manipulation.
would this episode been different if he had been focusing on this? i also remember a while ago seeing someone put a block of...metal...ice or something voer the top of a machine and t just tood stayed there, didnt fall, didnt turn. you probably dont know what im talking about so nvm xD
hey Austin if you could make episodes of this that you dont swear in that would be awesome because my science teacher wants to use them in class but cant right now due to language...
If I become a physics teacher, I will show these videos no matter what. I don't care about the rules, these children need KNOWLEDGE! And I will give it to them through magic of internet
While watching the video, I noticed that Vivaldi's "Winter" was playing in the background. Wouldn't "Fall" be more appropriate for a video on gravity? lol
Brotherhood of steel Paladin one of my friends is 125 kg and he is strong as a Bull and getting stronger with each day. Just look at The Mountain from game of thrones.
Well it's not like Xen crystals are magical devices on par with witchcraft, they just... punch holes in the fabric of space time every now and then. Which would explain how Gordon could scan carry that thing and /maybe/ negate his super cancer, but secondarily it might also exponentially increase his super cancer because the Xen Crystals may very well emit radiation all their own which could be harmless to the ranks of the Combine but absolutely feces rating to a Human. Secondarily; the Xen crystals also can't negate the sheer force the gun is excreting. Yes, maybe it could allow for the cone shape the Gravity Gun seems to utilize and probably totally negates power issues, but it cannot negate the sheer force produced in this well of gravity. Gravity is a universal concept, at least in our universe, and even if Gordon could manage to not get cancer, hold the gravity gun, and not suffer negative effects by using it whatsoever; you'll be tearing down every wall you face using it

Henry Bernal You probably learned this, but it only interests you now because videogames.
ElucarioYEAH true
ElucarioYEAH: But actually learning something means you have to have an interest in it at some point.
Whenever you learn something that gets committed to memory and develops understanding of something that you previously didn't understand, it caught your interest. Even though it might've been imperceptible. (for instance: I used to involuntarily learn the lyrics to Britney Spears songs, despite the fact that I hate her music, but on some unconscious level they must have caught my interest somehow)
Since the purpose of a school is to teach students, being able to make the students interested in the subject they're being taught should reasonably be considered pretty basic.
If a videogame then manages to get someone interested in learning science to the point where they understand something they previously didn't, then you could say that the school failed... Or that video games and certain forms of entertainment can be a superior method of teaching some people... Which would yet again be true in my case, since english is a second language for me, and I learned almost nothing of it in school but mostly from watching films and television-series in english but with subtitles in my native tounge (and reading a shitload of books in english, as well as playing video games in english)
The schools need to step up their game, because they are getting beat by the entertainment industry. :P
Couldn't the gravity gun just distort the local space time on the targeted item? It's slightly more feasible then this.
Exactly what I was thinking.
Wouldn't that have the opposite effect of pulling you towards the object? Or if you go the other way it would just make the object start floating.
Does it have to use gravity?
seems like it'd pull everything including you to the the thing you targeted it at
Well, it's called "the gravity gun" but, yeah, using something else like an electromagnetic field to move stuff around would be much much more efficient. Of course how the gun doesn't just get ripped from your hand and go flying toward something if it was too heavy is beyond me.
PLEASE DO THE PORTAL GUN I MEAN SERIOUSLY IT WOULD BE AMAZING
The implications of the Portal Gun are, indeed... say it with me, now...

It doesn't use gravity, it uses energy and a Xen crystal. Alyx just likes to call it the gravity gun.
Bob Birdsong
Plus it's real name is a Zero Point Field Manipulator or something like that.
So it doesn't really actually use gravity.
A xen crystal? Where the hell did you get that from?
imTheMrBEAN
Half-Life 2's characters could have used a previously acquired crystal from the border-world, Xen, in which said crystals are abundant, seen in the first game to construct the ZPEF Manipulator long before the events of the game.
@@imTheMrBEAN it can be found in the end of half life 1 when you fight nihilanth and some places when you go to xen,
do portal 2 hard light bridges
He should just cover hard light in general. Its in so many games, yet makes zero sense.
Remember Symmetra from Overwatch?
How the hell did she make something out of light to shoot microwave lasers???
yeah that is a real head scratcher.
Vincent Kenway Maybe she can create a plasma like beam? The real question is how she can make turrets with it.
I did read somewhere that hard light is possible. but it loses energy (light) as fast as it can gather it, but it does form a solid mass. just don't put your hand in it.
the science behind the portal gun
I'm pretty sure it'll be the same science of the pokeball

can gamma radiation be affected by gravity? and if so it could be contained and weaponized.
maybe this is how the super gravity gun kills people
Thomas Lowry I wouldn’t doubt that either the US or Russian Governments are working on something like that.
Tttttsaaaaaaake meeeeeee onnnnnn
Is gamma radiation in space time? if it is on it, is affected by gravity.
Now this makes me realize how fucking advanced the combine is

Wait. We need an explanation of how the head crabs work. They make you grow claws it looks like, you have a hole in your torso for some reason, and a better question HOW DOES IT TAKE OVER YOUR BODY!
Dylan Hull
Well, technically, they peel the skin off your skull and attach themselves to it, and with a beak in the back of their holes they penetrate into the spine and take control of one's nervous system. Or so I read on the wiki.
The Gravity Gun isn't made by the Universal Union("combine"), it's Black Mesa/human :P
Dear Austin,
I have a request for a SCIENCE! episode on Half-Life 2...
Sincerely,
Souvereign
What's the feasibility of a one way energy shield that so many games use?
Ad victorian
Elder Maxson
Ah, okay. That I'm not sure on, but more than likely the muzzle of the weapon would probably have to be just outside of the shield to work correctly, so the protective aura would probably work better as it just protects the user or vehicle.
Riese Marshall. My brain hurts, not just from the 107 degree heat, but now from your bloody terrifying SCIENCEY stuff that is way beyond me.

there's no way that that radiator has 340kg
Cast iron is heavy as fuck. Home radiators can weigh well over 340 kg.
Jake Thornton but the one in the video isn't
The one in the video would weigh about 340kg if you had a real life equivalent.
I agree. I have lifted many radiators and cast iron or not, there is no way that would weigh 340kg. Not disparaging the science in the video, hell knows a lot of effort went into it but that radiator does not weigh that much.
if you do his calculation you get 33.6kg so yeah, i think he forgot to carry a decimal because its essentially an order of magnitude off
i forgot this was about half life 2 for a second
Gravity Gun is a NICKNAME, it is never said that that Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator effects gravity directly.

flip jonah
not really, im aware to what he was referring, yer just taking too serious what i said, is all.
i wish i was smarter so i could understand more than the gist of it
Easy. The Gravity Gun is GOD DAMNED TERRIFYING!
The short version. The Gravity Gun is basically a freakin bomb with enough power to turn the Earth into sub atomic particles.
Prepare for unforeseen consequences.
The HEV suit Gordon has on 24/7: "YOU.... solved the riddle?"
Or this could be a case of misnomer as its called the zero point energy gun by other scientists, so it's more likely a vacuum pulling in objects.
and if, for whatever reason, the containment failed, it would unleash an extinction level event in the form of a massive singularity...goodbye planet and everything on it
google Zero-Point Energy. I dare you. Seriously it exists in real life and makes sence
i've been meaning to read up on it, but i've gotten a bit sidetracked.
Aperture Science Austin is thinking in portals
Assassin's creed assasinations from roofs, is this possible to survive just because you break the fall by landing on a different human being?
No, you would keep falling unless the person is sitting, if they were standing then it would merely decelerate your fall and in the were sitting, it would break their skull and a few other bones, along with most vital organs
+Dylan Hull Half right... but explaining this is pretty simple- if you fall on top of someone else from any great height you're both fucked.
Lord Delren Arthwipe III yes, but at medium to short distance the landing target is more likely to get more broken bones and crushed organs
Well, in short, Gravity Gun could be built out of Human Laws of Physics and within the "UU's laws of Physics"
The Garg combine has the same laws of physics as us, and valve doesn't know how to science good.
it was bult during black mesa considering they used one to put the xen crystal in the anti mass spectrometer. albeit it was much more bulkier back then and likely was made much smaller using combine tech.
You must remember though, the gun is able to shoot things because it has xen crystals in it. We don't know what that implies but it's also the shit that apparently prevents black holes in xen so whatever
Perhaps you should include an explanation of the full theory of special relativity including momentum, which life has.
E^2=M^2*C^4+P^2*C^2

It’s zero Point energy, not gravity. It’s name in the weapon switch menu calls it the zero Point energy field manipulator. (Zero Point energy gun in episode 1 and episode 2)
There's no gravity in Half Life but just levels floating in a void.
Austin. HALP
Portals?
Yeah, if it has that much mass equivalence, it's like you not being able to knock Earth off it's axis by jumping.
Filipe Amaral wait carrying the gravity gun itself would turn you into the center of gravity... Oh god please no...
The light explanation also explains away the "visible light problem" under a young earth model. Local space time versus universal space time. Does not support big bang theory

*SHUT.*
We actually can't be sure if it works using gravity, it's real name is "zero point energy field manipulator" gravity gun is just the short name that alyx gave it, so it could very well work using chicken farts, and alyx just named it that cuz it pulls stuff towards it, kinda like gravity
It could be an area of lower pressure, or a kind of static electricity or whatever

What About the infamous "DOUBLE SLIT EXPERIMENT"
Quantum Physics often disagrees with relativity
thank you sir
Oh. Can you explain why, to a mere idiot like me, the double slit experiment leads to contradictions between relativity and quantum physics?
Light is a wave and a particle iirc.
Also yeah, QP disagrees with Relativity. People are working on stuff to get it all in one big thing
Does relativity say that light is just a particle, or just a wave but not both?
since they are obviously never making half life 3, can we at least have the first two remastered?

Oliver Church I think there was one before that ^^
Yeap, when he was talking about mercury there was a clip.
what if it just uses magnetism... like Vanderwhals force and magnetic tunnelling? i mean its only nicknamed the gravity gun
It's called the "Zero point energy field manipulator" so it doesn't have to do with magnetism at all
eh yeah... magnets are safer...
I used a lot of periods didn't I?
everything is magnetic, and you can make a focused beam of magnitism
Flint Saraphali the stronger the magnetism, the farther it goes. And it is a bit obvious it isn't using magnetism due to the fact EVERYTHING you suck towards you travels at the same speed, no matter what, so maybe it is just using some kind of funneled vacuum, some kind of auto adjusting vacuum that started shooting and sucking air at the same time once an object gets too close. I have a lot of far fetched ideas.
The zero point energy field manipulator is indeed NOT a toy

I adore coming back to this video, and being fascinated by the monologue about Einstein and how wondrous his pondering on whether/how “____” makes sense was such a humble first approach to how he revolutionized his field. Thank you, Austin.
People might hate me for even asking this question... What's so good about Half Life? I've always wanted to play it but never did.

At least for me, it is the story, combined with a great artwork of the "post apocalyptic world" and the creative way the levels were designed. It just seem to fit perfectly in any aspect.Play it for yourself, it is worth it :)
Play them in order, and you'll find out.
Start from the first one. You will love it.
Simple, it was one of the first FPS to do story properly.
On top of that, add an easy to mod engine, spawning popular mods like Counter Strike.
the gravity gun uses exotic particles from a parallel universe to create gravity in our universe without creating black holes every time you use it, so in short the gravity gun is a micro portal generator that is allowing "gravity" force to enter from another universe where all the deadly particles go to the other universe and thus only allowing a fraction of that force to be manipulated in our universe
thank me later
The Combine actually make exotic particles through Dark Energy, so this idea actually might not be that far-fetched I guess?
i thought it'd be something along the lines of it has a tiny ball of gravity in the gun, which what the guns design is about, controlling it (how is it possible...

Gravity is a universal concept, at least in our universe, and even if Gordon could manage to not get cancer, hold the gravity gun, and not suffer negative effects by using it whatsoever; you'll be tearing down every wall you face using it
That's like saying God exists because of magic
What was your thing with sailor moon this video.

Problem - could HEV suit block the radiation?
Nuclear Funk
Autocorrect possibly

Interesting click bait concept and good information but damn man, chill with that excitable RUclipsr scream-voice. Dial it back a bit.
I was completely absorbed in all the science of gravity talk in the middle of the video and forgot about half-life.
