    This one was wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm a disabled woman in New York, an hour and 20 north of the city. I can no longer travel but did in my late teens (thru school & college), my 20s until 30 (my first child, oh and marriage before that) I went all over via work and play. After I settled down to kids, I used to dream of going to Europe over the weekend. The flight distance & time never came up. I dreamed that for 15 - 20 years I think.
    Thank you for taking me where I can no longer go.

    These ones are always my favorite. Of course I love the revels of the abandoned power plants and castles. And I love the eerie nature of the abandoned hospitals and hotels, the bizarre peace of the abandoned churches. But the personal homes, like this one, are always the most fascinating and sad because you know they were the most loved and lived in. You know a child treasured that chess set and a connoisseur treasured that wine. And now it’s reduced to mold and dust. Material items never last forever but the stories attached to them do. Even after every one who once owned the items is gone, there will always be people like myself to draw up dreamy little backstories for every little thing. I can’t know what truly happened in this house but I’m choosing to imagine it was the setting of beautiful childhoods and grand parties. Of warm holidays and late night philosophies discussed over wine. Congrats on your award!!! No one deserves it more!

    I am a French Huguenot, ended up in South Africa. My grandfather and mother on my mom’s side were both descendants from France. Our ancestor on my grandfather’s side fled France as a French Huguenot, on the second boat that left for the Netherlands, but was brought to South Africa due to their knowledge of farming to contribute to the settlement the East Indian Company started for their trade route around Africa towards the East.. They arrived in South Africa in 1680. On my great grandmother’s side, Naudé, arrived in the 1800’s he was a first officer/ noble man from the navy.Interestingly that out of all the different cultures (Dutch, English, German and many more) in the early nineteen hundreds the two descendants of French origin, which would be my grandfather and mother, fell in love and got married. The content of your videos is very interesting. I wish I could read all those books.

    The marble at 4:15 is so pretty! The garden 15:28 at the end is stunning! Just the one iron gate of spokes is sooo expensive. It always breaks my heart to see a place not loved anymore. But I'm weird and believe the building has feelings/holds the energy of the past people who lived there and loved the place. It would be nice if a super-rich Bezos type would restore it to the way it was in the past. Thank you for not hurting their stuff/house. Congratulations on the win.

    About the growths on those wine bottles (7:45] , my guess is that the corks dried out and shrunk over time. That would allow wine to seep out or molds to start growing. Cool but kinda gross too.
    I love these abandoned homes and the clues you uncover, stories you dig up. It’s fascinating.
    Congrats on your award, well deserved and overdue. Woohoo!

    • @Ganiscol
      @Ganiscol 3 года назад +9

      I think you're right about that. As far as I'm aware as a non-drinker, this is why one does not store wine or champagne bottles upright but at least in a horizontal position or better yet, the cork slightly below horizontal to keep it wet.

    • @cathjj840
      @cathjj840 3 года назад +2

      @@Ganiscol Once champagne is finally ready and closed with its reinforced cork, no need to lay it horizontally. That was done earlier in the process when they turn it every so often to get the sediment into the neck where they can get it out easily. Champagne is not aged after that

    • @jeffreydysart4196
      @jeffreydysart4196 2 года назад +1

      That is a riddling rack for sparkling wine(champagne in France):bottles stored with neck in down position to gradually move the yeast sediment slowly towards the neck while still affecting the wine.

      Vincent Minnelli’s home in Beverly Hills was left abandoned. After he passed Liza went and took the few things she wanted then sold the home with everything in it. The new owners did nothing with the home and it has been looted. There is a video on here of his home. Same with Victoria Gotti’s home in New York. The FBI raided it and they took very little and just left there is a video in here with that home also.

    How very sad, I can't even begin to imagine losing all those wonderful family memories....land&houses can be replaced - sentimental personal items, photos, and the family history they represent, cannot be. I know it doesn't begin to compare, but I lost a storage unit I had paid on for over 20yrs after I fell on hard times due to illness. It was a time capsule of my family's history that spanned over 100yrs, and I still mourn that loss.

    The dead are all around us and within each of us. They are in the places they built, in the things they did, in the small items they cherished. They stare back at us from portraits and photographs. We walk where they walked. We share DNA with countless long dead relatives and have connections to places and people most of us never even dreamed of. Their history is part of the tapestry of our own lives and sometimes the weave is tighter than we think. Perhaps this helps explain why we are drawn to places such as this one...and why some of us can never sleep peacefully in a newly constructed house. Your work speaks to the old souls and delights those of us who seek out the lonely places.

    Just Excellent videos. I love to watch them. Past is always more interesting than present and future, I think so. 😄 How they were and where they have gone. 🙂

    A mí personalmente me gusta mucho que exploreis porque me gusta conocer más sobre el lugar. Muchas gracias por vuestro video, me ha encantado. 👏👏👏👏👏👏💜🙏. Me gustó mucho la habitación de arriba, las lámparas y el papel pintado de la pared, y sus colchas. Me recordaron a mi infancia y adolescencia. También el sillón vino burdeos de terciopelo precioso, al igual que los muebles de libros. Esta casa conserva 300 años de historia, guuuuuuaaaa que maravilla. ENORABUENA por Vuestro Premio. Mantén la curiosidad y sigue explorando. Así sea🙏

    I would love to visit and inspect the Homes, Castles, Mansions or other wonderful places you do. What an exciting way to look at history, both personal and commercial. I’m glad you don’t do what so many others who go into abandoned homes, take anything and everything of value. History needs to stay where it is found. The only time you remove things from these homes is if they are in danger of being destroyed completely. Then the things removed should be put in a Museum or stored away. Please keep up your very interesting work. I enjoy watching your personal trips through History…

    Many Chateaux are too expensive to maintain and keep in the family after hundreds of years.
    The property tax alone kills any hope of saving them and France desperately needs to reconsider how to save these beautiful time capsules.

    This is the first time I've seen one of your videos, I don't care for many of the people who _"explore"_ like this but you seem to have respect for the properties you explore, I'm subscribing! I look forward to seeing more of your adventures. Oh, great drone photo, congratulations on your win!

    Have you ever heard from anyone related to one of the old photos you post? That would be very cool, if they were willing to share some of their back story.

      Usually, we don't hope that someone reaches out... Because since they are most probably the owners of the properties they could sue us for trespassing, haha.

      I honestly don't think these kind of people will (willingly) share their "back stories" to anyone outside of their aristocratic circle.

    It's interesting to watch all those abandoned homes...every single things left behind tells a story...also like who were the people who lived there before etc...
    Congratulations for all the fine works...

    found the channel through The Proper People, have to say you guys take a different approach to your videos than they do (probably due to having older buildings and estates to explore). Have to say I enjoy both for different reasons. The one common thing is leaving the property more or less as you found it, as an urban explorer should.

    One thing I love about European finds is that generally, most everything is left right where it's been found and most of the time, nothing has been vandalized. I hate to think about what that rack of wine bottles would look like had you found that in the US - because people just don't seem to teach their children to respect and appreciate other people's property... even abandoned property. Oh the treasure you have found in this place!
