My Dad works for the EPA and told me about what happened, then I saw it on the news and heard about it being on RUclips. He drove in the water to tell the surfers to leave and got his 4wheeler jammed in gear, so he couldn't reverse. You can see him trying to switch gears to no prevail, so he drives deeper and gets nailed by a wave. The surfers and people come out to push the 4wheeler out. Good stuff. I'm sure he was just trying to be nice and polite, but wow.. a 4wheeler in the ocean water? GG
Despite this unfortunate event, and the seriousness of a storm about to blast Texas, I think the people who lended a hand displays a strong sense of POSITIVE attitude towards OUR community.
I like the goodness displayed by the surfers, helping the guy that was probably going to write them tickets or at least kick them off the beach. If the policeman wants to be a lifeguard he should get a swimsuit and a jet-ski. No way he was trying to save anybody from an ATV. If he could reach them with an ATV, they don't likely need saving. They can just stand up.The surfers were beyond nice in helping him. Kinda heart warming.
I posted a video on here shot from the pier. I saw the whole thing happen in person. He DIDN'T drive his ATV into the water as many (who weren't there) are saying. You are watching an edited video, and even my video I didn't catch the beginning. He drove to the waters edge to tell them get out (as he was probably commanded by his superiors to do, and got overtook by a set of waves that came in closer than they had in the last few minutes. Yes, it is funny as hell though.
Good video, great editing, except your date is wrong on the intro! It was 9/11/08 not 5/11/08. There are 2 other videos from different folks and different angles, yours is the best! Congrats!
Hey... love the slo mo at :42! What the hell was that doofus thinking trying to ride a four-wheeler into the gulf???? And with hurricane surf! Our tax dollars hard at work :) Later, bro!
A rescue pilot rescuing surfers? I've surfed hundreds of breaks up and down the CA coast for years, and that's something I've yet to see. Where were you rescuing surfers, may I ask? Yeah some surfers do stupid things, but the percentage is obviously very small.
We, as surfers train for days like these. We have spent years and years honing our skills, and it sucks when we get shut down by the cops. Surfers save more swimmers than the lifeguards do in the Panhandle region. (I have guarded, and surf) We are not idiots, we are skilled athletes. Name calling only shows your ignorance to the situation.....
It looks to me like they're all being maroons including the cop. Those are victory at sea conditions at a beach break with a nasty side shore current. They aint going to make it out more than 40 feet. They'll just paddle out, not be able to make it through through the soup, get tired, and end up boogey boarding a wave in 1/8 mile down the beach. Unless they don't know how to swim, I don't really see any danget....unless a certain ATV rolls into them.
it's crazy, I live in pensacola and the cops in this are have become so bitter towards the everyone, prolly due to the bar scene. Ether way it makes our state look like an ass.
@thedec3nt i bet they can do a great job at "keeping you safe " considering hes driving a 4 wheeler i salt water, dumbest move ive seen in awhile. I find it hard to beleive he could keep someone safe considering he cant keep himself safe.
what on earth was that cop thinking??? He should have parked that thing up on the beach and walked down and then called the guy up to him. What a waste of tax money to be so foolish (and LAZY). The guy is obviously out there on his own free will, he KNOWS there is a hurricane out there, he KNOWS there is a gazillion red flags posted and surf warnings and rip tide warnings. He just wasted that equipment for what reason again exactly????

Ha that was Chris. He got reassigned for a time after this. Didn't see him back on the beach for a long while.
Wow, this video just appeared on NBC-15 in Mobile!
MH, I just can't watch this enough. Glad this guy isn't running for Escambia County Sheriff. He isn't running, is he???
why? you could see him try and put itinto reverse wih no luck, its atv, meant for that kind of thing, tyres just made it float
Why did the officer have the atv so close to the water?
you have to send this video into to TRU TV or something! HAHA thats freakin great!
Is that CHRIS W. ????
aww i wonder if that things works still after all that

Heads up sheriff's going right!!
It is kinda comical, but I'm glad the guy is OK.
I don't even know what to say....unbelievable.
Why?
Nobody let this guy have a truck, it will be harder to push out.

I feel bad for him...
I believe that's why he's on beach patrol and not on the streets. lol
very smart cop on our hands try to save someone in the water with a fourwheeler.... something tells me a life boat would do a lil better
Doh!
Got to wonder if that will come out of his pay. Ouch.
Jammed in gear? lol.. You gotta press the foot brake to shift that Suzuki into reverse.
People who actually work and have to pay taxes care.
crazy
Lmao, I bet that officer was harassing those surfers to.

Why is the cop driving around the ocean in a four-wheeler, isn't that a bit dumb??
Chill bra....isnt that what you surfers say?
I agree...funny. But the idea that he DESERVED it is absurd.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now he takes kook to a new level!
Pig jokes aside... What was he trying to do? Did he think he could get out on that? I can't think of a scenario where that decision makes sense,...
f'n genius
