Girl, I've seen that one had an influencer be a host for one giveaway and then the next giveaway she didn't host, but she "entered" and she won that giveaway and they keep repeating that with their hosts
Great job Morgan! It's surprising that so many people will use these tactics to gain followers/attention/sales and then really expect you that you'll ever want to interact with them or purchase their products. Especially surprising because when done the right way you, your followers/customers will become loyal advocates for your account/business.
This series is sooooooooooooo helpful! I have a photography business and want to start an annual giveaway for Engagement Photos. It's tough to want to increase followers and engagement, but also not be pushy 😅
Some giveaways are scams! They’ll delete comments on the night they are supposed to announce the winner & also they’ll unfollow people that they told you to follow for entry so if you want to unfollow them, you got no idea who to unfollow 😤
😂😂😂Omg I see it alot thats why I stop entering most hug giveaway 😓man I wasted my time for nth 😂Then I enter a international giveaway and on the day of the draw the change it to USA only that's messed up
How about when influencers get together, you follow them all, they announce the winner and the winner doesnt follow a single account that you followed.... makes me think its a fake account the influencers made so they dont have to shell out any of their own actual money. thoughts?
I was supposed to have an iphone 11 pro max by Thursday but the person who was doing the giveaway decided not to tell me anything about the package and how it'll be delivered so stay safe out there he also said I had to pay for the delivery fee.
Thank You!🌷 for this video. I opened my instagram account only a month ago, and I’m doing monthly giveaways to build up my following. I’m going to watch all of your giveaway videos so that I do it correctly. I used an app to pick my last winner. The app just went through my comments so the first winner wasn’t following me. So I ran it again. I was able to see if the winner was following me, and if they tagged 3 friends, but I have no idea how to check if they shared it to their story. That disappears after 24hrs so how would you know? Thx for the help.
to keep track of giveaways i enter i usually save the post but its so annoying when they edit the post caption and i cant see who i followed to enter T>T
Thank you morgan, I already see for this month like 3 or 4 people do it like that, they give rullers don’t Dm me who the winner or bla bla bla and in the day who the winner we dont know, and sometimes they delete the giveaway post. Not only on IG in RUclips too, she make 15 days giveaways and we can enter everyday and not only that we have change to win giveaway 1 or 2 or 4 on 15 days, but in the day she not announced the winner but in next video she say already have winner and already prepare for shipping but we dont know who the winner, its really suck.
So bad! 😖 Changing the giveaway period or rules is another SHADY practice! I immediately unfollow because they are making it clear what their priorities are. 😕
I definitely feel like companies only pick winners with lots of followers. The winners will have like 10 or 12 posts but a couple hundred followers and following around the same amount. I cant help but think are they even real accounts. And if theyre own accounts with few photos ill look to see when their first post was which a couple of times will be within the last few months.
Also I've seen another one where someone called out the giveaway account and said that they picked someone who didn't comment on all their hosts' posts and the giveaway account legit replied, "the winner commented on one of the hosts' post" and the girl said I thought you were supposed to comment on all the hosts posts, thats what you said! And they just blocked her. Wow😂😂
Also there's a few of youtuber whos scam International people like us , they said the giveaway is International , then ask where we came from , after the giveaway ended, and she anounce the winner, I scroll down all the comments , guess what ? All the 3 winner are from California! Lol 🤣 that's why she ask where we came from. She's so stingy and liar
@@MorganStradling I Know that's why they should put it as a national Giveaway instead International , haa people will notice it for a long time Subscriber
i just joined this instagram giveaway a few days ago, and i noticed that the account says it has 97 followings (the number of followings that was indicated near the peofile pic), but when i checked the account actually follows only 96 accounts. lyk how is that?
I won a giveaway almost 2 months ago on Instagram for an outfit and a matching one for a friend, and I gave the company my sizing and shipping info but they haven't messaged back! On their next post I plan to comment and ask about it and say I haven't heard from them for a couple months or received anything in the mail. Is that a bad idea? They do a lot of giveaways and always post the giveaway winner's username in the caption which is odd if they actually aren't sending anything out...!
Thank you! I also messaged a few other girls who won things on their page and most didn’t receive their prizes either. However, one girl said she did get her prize but only after commenting on one of their more recent posts (where they attacked her for making “people think poor about us” and then was being very unprofessional in direct message). I plan I’m doing kind of a group “shoutout” so that they don’t find it as easy to attack back and be mean to us for telling the truth!
Same here I also won same tactical gears giveaway 2 times and everytime they are telling me to fill up registration on external link. So I'm also having same query.
I have been a longtime critic of follow/unfollow! Now admittedly, I did it with a one of my Twitter accounts (back in 2012) and really at the end of the day, it just results in followers who only followed me because I followed them, but they aren't ENGAGED. They don't have conversations, they don't like the posts, etc. Engagement is key and so much more valuable than number of followers. Follow/unfollow is bad practice because it increases your follower count, but doesn't increase engagement. So your follower/engagement ratio is totally off and then the Instagram algorithm notices that and starts burying your content. Anyone who is still doing this in 2020 is just hurting themselves.
I will seriously not enter now where they make me follow 60 people so it is clearly they doing it for followers and then winner is their friend who never entered
I opened an Etsy account. N I opened an Instagram. I want to get my products out there by a giveaway. But I want to do it correctly and honestly. How do I do that? My goal is hoping they become a follower and maybe notice I have good stuff and buy stuff.
The account that I m following didn’t reply but another account which have less follower msg me and said m winner he gave me a site and told register should I trust
Sometimes they don't have a winner at all... wasn't even giving anything away in the first place 😂 just said they are hosting a giveaway so they can get followers.
This happened to me. I won something & they said they “sent my package.” Then 3 weeks later it still wasn’t here & they literally responded “it got lost in the mail.” 🤣🤣
Man, this shaded stuff is straight out of the handbook for “business owners” that think they’re clever and only care about snagging a quick easy buck. It’s crazy how many people are basically just scammers in sheep’s clothing. They’re socially smart, manipulative and grew up on social media so they know exactly how to con people with it. And they do! I do think it’s funny how companies put so much value on their follower count thinking it alone is the answer. Reach is one thing, I get that, but what these people are thinking is different. I either picture some attention crazed millennial running a companies social media account and using the accounts followers to fill their own emotional needs for attention from strangers -or- some clueless person that heard one time that the more followers you have, the better!! “This social media thing isn’t working! We must need more followers! It has nothing to do with us not using this outlet correctly and everything to do with us needing more followers!!” If you haven’t read or listened to the book, “Thank You Economy” by Gary Veynerchuk I HIGHLY recommend it!! The whole book is pretty much along the spirit as your video; if you want to grow your business, you have to take care of your customers and have positive interactions with them. I recommend the audiobook as he “goes off script” a lot in it and adds more insight which is awesome. I _really_ think you would like it.
Yeah, it's pretty sad to see it so common. Like you said, I think a lot of this stems from the outdated notion of the all holy "follower" and the desire to get as many as possible.
I honestly don’t remember which giveaways that i commented on. Then i received two dms saying that i won. But the first one actually deleted their messages after I left them on seen after they asked for my details. The second one i left them seen for 6 days and then just uhm..tryna play around 🤭. So i actually asked if they are legit and what courier they used to sent internationally and also requires my details. But yeah after watching your videos and reading some of the comments got me scared and stop replying the person 🥴🤭
How to put the location criteria? Do you write this giveaway is only for people who live in Sweden let's say? Isn't that annoying? But, yeah people don't want to bother with the international shipping
Have you seen any of these shady Instagram giveaway tactics in the wild? 🦁🧐 What do you think: are they ok or not ok? Let me know in the comments!
Morgan Stradling I think its nit ok the do it like that, even though we not win that giveaway but at lets we know who the winner.
I get a giveaway from instagram they asking shipping amount it's real or fake plz reply

Exactly! There have been lots of giveaway (done the right way) where I’ve been introduced to a new brand and kept following them as a result!
Oh yay I was the 1000th like on this vid!! Thanks for the tips!

I know, it's really frustrating that people would do that. Clearly they just want followers, but don't really have a prize to give. ANNOYING!

Morgan Stradling unfollowe and block
i joined many giveaways and i noticed is that sometimes they just close it and dm the winner. they don't announce the ga has already closed.
Do we have to go back and edit the giveaway post once the winner is announced? This is what I understood. Am I right?

I would definitely call them out publicly. Either on their next post or in a story tagging them because that's shady and not right.

Thoughts on the follow/unfollow method that companies/influencers love to use? I personally feel it’s incredibly disingenuous. And annoying!
