www.DelawareCrew.com - Chuck Crawford started Delaware men's rowing
team in the spring of 1991. While simultaneously coaching the women's
program, which had its inaugural season the year before, Chuck spent
the first year teaching the all-novice athletes the basic techniques
of rowing. The following year the men's team started racing other
schools and competed for the first time at the Dad Vail regatta in
Philadelphia.
In 2010 the team had an impressive Dad Vail regatta, placing 2nd in
both the Varsity Heavyweight and Varsity Lightweight 8s and garnered
the men's point trophy for the third consecutive year. The Heavyweight
8 comprised mostly of rowers from the Lightweight 8, while the Varsity
Lightweight 8 was rowed by mainly freshmen lightweights. Both crews
overcame being undersized and fierce conditions to earn silver medals.
