Stories like these always make me choke up. I fell severely ill the summer following our March wedding. Within a year, we were bankrupted by the hospital bills and I was spending 20 hours per day in bed. An old girlfriend showed up 7 years into our marriage and was almost successful in getting him to run away with her. He didn’t. He stuck it out. Today, I’m doing much better. We have a beautiful life and three small children. My neighbor growing up was paralyzed in a car accident shortly after getting married. They just celebrated 35 years of marriage and were a huge inspiration to us. Commitment pays off, and that's what makes the difference between a marriage and a casual relationship.
That’s exactly why I hated the ending of this movie. What if you or your friend had taken the route the male protagonist in the movie did, you wouldn’t be here enjoying your life and children.
Chokes me up, that’s what love is. My grandpa was my inspiration. He took care of my grandmother for decades after she became wheel chair bound. My husband was wounded in Afghanistan 6 months after we got married. Three and a half years later I started dialysis. I actually ended up getting a kidney because he was wounded 🤯The odds of that… Anyway, today we’ve been married nearly 14 years and he’s the best person that’s still happening to me.
True. Every long happy marriage has been tested at some point in some way, maybe many ways. That's life. And some marriages end because of it, but I guess that's ok since those relationships probably weren't very strong anyway. You have to really love someone to stick with them through everything. Perhaps some of those marriages that ended weren't from a lack of love exactly, but a lack of maturity or unrealistic expectations. There are people who look back at an ended relationship with regret because they see what they lost and now understand it was worth keeping.
@@snakesonaframe2668 same here! I have an aunt who has cerebral palsy and has difficulty moving her limbs and speaking. She met her husband at the age of 40, married at 45 and they have adopted a daughter who has now started kindergarten. I would have never watched this film on my own, but someone I cared for very deeply said this was one of her favorites so I checked it out. I don’t think I’ll ever forget “Me Before You”
I thought the cervical spine controlled the upper body = arms, not legs. I had a large mrsa infected abscess in my cervical spine and lost the use of my right arm. Then I had my cervical spine rebuilt with bone from my hip, bone from the bone bank, and lots and lots of titanium. The neurosurgeon was excellent and I got the use of my arm back - but it's the lumbar section of the spine that controls the lower half of the body = legs. I'm having a lot of trouble with my legs now 10 years post infection and surgery, because the cervical hardware is causing my lumbar to get out of whack, causing lumbar facet syndrome - right now it's just awful pain that is similar to really bad sciatica and difficulty walking, but I'll take this over paralysis - fingers crossed and prayers said. P.S. I just love Emilia Clarke!
If any part of your spine becomes severed then you’ll become paralyzed. It’s filled with nerves that send signals to your brain. Cervical is the upper part of your spine (C1-C7), so he’s paralyzed from the neck down. It’s also an extremely dangerous place to injure because it’s your neck, severed can also be referred as break just not every case.
You had a very different type of injury than this guy did. Your injury was effecting the nerves as they branched off from the spine. If the spine itself is heavily damage or severed, everything below that point stops working. If it worked the way you think it does, there’d be WAY fewer folks in wheelchairs the para- and quadriplegia. I have to ask, did you assume everyone who’s fully paralyzed had the whole spine torn up? Because that’d be one hell of an injury and one I doubt a person could survive.
As for your own lumbar issues, several suggestions from someone’s who’s femur is a bit like your cervical spine- 1) PT. It never stops for folks like us. If they ever discharge you, you keep doing the exercises. 2) Water-based PT is truly the gold standard for hips/pelvic issues. It’s rarely offered, though- but it’s what taught me to walk. 3) injections into the areas with the impinged nerves might be an option. That way they can localize anti-inflammatories, vastly increasing bang for your buck, so to speak. 4) massage from a medical message therapist might also help loosen things up and get you moving correctly. I’ve had great success combining the two whenever I start PT for a new issue. Speeds up progress and some insurances even cover it in the US. (But NEVER let a chiropractor touch you!! With that metal in you, they could easily severely injure or kill you. That’s a risk for all chiro work but those with existing spinal issues are at very high risk.)
What you had rebuilt was the vertebrae, the bone around the spinal cord. The spinal cord has smaller nerves branching off of it that control feeling & movement in other parts of the body. A broken vertebra doesn’t always mean a damaged spinal cord (depends where it’s broken & if it’s compressing or severing a nerve). A severe injury that severs the spinal cord results in paralysis below the severing. The higher in the cervical (neck) spine the severed cord is, the more of the body is paralyzed. The infection most likely impinged on the nerves going to your arm & possibly ate away the vertebrae in the area, too. Or the diseased bone was just cut out during surgery.
I'm so sorry you're dealing with such horrible pain! While mine is not nearly as severe, I also have chronic pain in my back from Lupus and old compression fractures that healed crooked. My Mom also has severe back pain and problems. Some of her's is in the lumber region. Would a "spinal nerve stimulator implant" be feasible for you? It blocks the pain signals to the brain, and therefore helps stop or reduce the pain. It's helped my Mom tremendously. The brand name of the device she has is Nevro. The procedure to implant it was a fairly simple surgery, certainly nothing like your previous surgeries. If you have any questions, please let me know. I would be happy to help! 💜
I have sympathy for people in a relationship like this, but, to me, if my partner was in an accident that changed their life, then my life changes too. It would depend on the length of the relationship of course. But if I’m in LOVE with you and we are spending our lives together, you don’t get to push me away. I’m not interested in moving on and leaving you behind. I still want my life with you. That life just looks really different now. Again, I feel very sorry for the ex. She probably did try. She’s not evil for winding up with the friend. That actually makes perfect sense. I don’t get coming around to display their relationship to him though. That seems cruel.
I think that they came by to absolve themselves of any further liability and, or, responsibility to him and his well-being. The narrative they have concocted is we tried, we told him, we deserve to be happy because we aren't bad people.

But her husband died shortly before her baby was born. We were pregnant at the same time. And I rmbr her saying that I’d be surprised if u knew how many of her husbands friends hit her up hitting on her not even a WEEK after he died. Which was a fckn shame bc her husband was kinda legendary and well LOVED. Like his funeral had a turnout bigger than I’ve seen in a WHILE. It made me wonder how many of those ppl were the ones who hit her up. And how deceitful some ppl can truly be. Waiting on ur death or break up or whatever is convenient to make a move on what u had. Crazy af. This made me think of that.

It's not other people's jobs to force ppl to accept love or support. He pushed her away because he was throwing himself a pity party and convincing himself he was being noble. He was the victim with the accident, but she's right that you can't help people that don't want to get better. He wanted to stay angry and he wanted her to go away, because he was passively suicidal and making it everyone's probablem. He had every right to feel all of those things, but absolutely no right to force it on everyone who tried to be there for him. Yes she probably should have not gotten romantic with his best friend, but much like he was severing the cord of their relationship when he pushed her away, maybe that was her way of moving on. They both were emotionally reacting and were dealing with an impossible situation. And either way, she obviously wasn't the one for him. Honestly i get why he couldn't look at her without thinking of all they could no longer do. With someone knew, you're not losing a relationship with someone who you used to be able to do things with you can't anymore. It's easier to start over completely for a lot of people than to retool that you have, grieving what was while adjusting to what now is.
You wanna know something. In cases like this I honestly find it hard to hate people. Your partner suddenly becomes disabled and needing you for everything can happen and most people don’t think it will, you never expect better or for worse actually being the worst case scenario. There’s so much pain and loneliness and emptiness that comes with an accident.I could see how the ex girlfriend started feeling lonely. I could see how it could happen. Now of course that’s not ok at all you have made a commitment to your partner that you gotta see through but I understand how people end up divorced after major illnesses. Not everybody is able to be a patient caretaker. It’s just sad that it’s more likely to be women who get left behind when they are ill. Not saying a man getting left behind isn’t sad I just think that shows we need to do some soul searching on why that is.

Who knows what amount of pain, what trauma, what fatigue, or neurological symptoms they quietly deal with. It’s not like they are required to share that information with others, there are usually only few to really confide in🙏🏼🌺
People always say they would stay with the person their with if something happened to them thinking oh so what they'll still be the same person just without the use of legs or arms or both not realizing the mental toll it will take as well on the person affected and then being taken by surprise as if it's them not being fair " oh you're too overwhelmed with them pushing you away and being distant for a few months so you need to find someone to give you attention now" that means that person was never that important and you weren't willing to wait for them to come to terms with in their own minds being useless from now on and not being able to do anything for themselves let alone anyone else and the ones they care about if someone isn't willing to wait at least an adjustment period of a year to get used to how things are now for that person than they don't have any real idea of what is happening

I have a friend, to me she’s a dear person just bc she’s a lovely human being, but I was more on the out fringes of the friend group and going thru a lot as well, so I didn’t get the chance to get close to her as much as I wanted to while I could.
@@angeloliver7613Yes, he did that to push her away so she could move on guilt free and she didn't see it. Made it worse when she went with his best friend...worse for his best friend than her though he isn't sore with her but the best bud pffff no coming back from that one sorry
Neville speaks so smoothly as a grown up. ❤😊

This film was brilliant.
I still have never seen the movie. And not that I think it won’t do it justice but this book WRECKED ME 😅
What's the movie name?
Me Before You
Oh my god I just realized that the actress that plays the ex girlfriend here also played Princess Margareth in the Crown. So beautiful.
Vanessa Kirby, she's also been in the last two Mission Impossible movies.
And now she’s playing the new invisible woman in the MCU fantastic four
Okay, never seen this movie but I’m seeing the shorts everywhere, and before anyone lynches me, I don’t know its name and I don’t know how to find it!! I want the name!! It looks so cute!!!
"Strong people" usually have their meltdowns behind closed doors...
What?
I believe that too
A strong person can have their meltdowns in public as well sometimes
Define “strong”? 🙏🏼When most handicaps and chronic illnesses aren’t visible like a wheelchair, but they are judged, ridiculed & bullied. Who knows what amount of pain, what trauma, what fatigue, or neurological symptoms they quietly deal with. It’s not like they are required to share that information with others, there are usually only few to really confide in🙏🏼🌺

This is a wonderful movie ❤
It's the first movie I ever saw Amelia Clarke act in. She is just fantastic, and she's the Mother of Dragons!
She is so pretty
How did you not laugh hysterically at the chanting in the woods scene lol
She's lovely!!!

“ would you like a cup of tea? “ typically considered the English panacea for all ailments.
Even though said by the Queen of Dragons, doesn’t quite work on cervical paralysis……

I did not expect to see Neville Longbottom today, but here I am
This is one of those things where the movie was better than the book. I hated the main character from the book.
How were they different?
I'm like this is familiar did I read a book about this years ago????? So yes I did thank you.
how was the mc different in the book?
I didn't like the book so I never watched the movie. How is she different in the movie? I'm curious.

I have issues with my lower lumbar, i am not paralyzed but when I stand up i fall to my knees, which have been broken, so I crawl until I am completely exhausted and just lay in the floor for hour's until I think I might be able to crawl again, which doesn't last very long.
i’m sorry for your pain😔
You can tell they're English without hearing them speak.

Absolutely loved this movie, hated the ending. I had no idea it had anything to do with assisted death. It was a shocking and heartbreaking experience. And no, I don’t agree with the message.
