Boxing Check Hook | 3 Variations To Land The Check Hook

What's up guys in this video I go over 3 different ways to land the check hook for boxing! The check hook is similar to a normal hook except the check hook is more of an exit punch/redirection punch opposed to a power hook. Often time, they are thrown so quickly it is kind of hard to notice the subtle movements the body does in order to land or momentarily stop opponents from closing the distance.
In this video I go over 3 variations of the check hook.
#1 The first way to land the check hook is to step outward with your lead foot and simultaneously throw the hook. What this does, is it invited your opponent to continue moving forward while you move to the side allowing you to create a new angle of attack.
#2 The second way to land the check hook is by taking a step back with your rear foot making you have a wider stance. What this does, is gives you just enough space to defend a punch but also set you up to land a power rear punch (uppercut, cross, hook, 45)
#3 The third way to land the check hook is to switch stances as you throw the lead hook meaning if you are standing orthodox you switch to southpaw and vice versa. This creates another angle of attack that your opponent may not expect in addition to adding defense because you are moving out of position.
Those are only a few ways to land the check hook. Everyone has their own style and preference and sometimes it may not be textbook but that does not mean it is not effective. Again these are only a few ways on how to land the check hook. In this video I used clips of fighters such as, Miguel Cotto, Terence Crawford, Nonito Donaire, Naoya Inoue... to name a few.

There are so many great fighters that deliver mean check hooks! Crawford is definitely up there, he does it a lot especially when he turns southpaw. Noaya Inoue is a beast at them also!
