retro futuristic. Actually nails it ;)

Rush did a similar thing with the B-side of 2112
And one year ago! It reminded me of a 2D laser etching from Paradise theater by Styx www.headheritage.co.uk/unsung/review/2318
I would have preferred to see the hologram of Princess Leia loading info into R2D2 or the chess table monsters fighting (from the Millenium Falcon).
This isn't the first movie so maybe save your suggestions for the right album, or just make your own holographic Star Wars record since your taste is so exquisite.
Exquisite taste man!
Don’t you know it’s all about the new generation characters now? Screw the old Legacy characters... oh, we need them for marketing our failing franchise? Um... We love Leia! And let’s bring back Luke and also Lando...
I was thinking the same thing
@@theshape7214 not necessary.
The first disk with this was Lazaretto by Jack White. He saw holographs like these etched into metal disks at an art exhibit, so he contacted the artist and had him etch the grooves on a copy of metal master disk and it luckily worked when the records were pressed.
I got that record. The spinning angel is so cool
Is it floating above the record like this one? I haven't heard of any like that before, just like the holograms in the movies, just in thin air. Not inside plastic boxes. Funny how it's art that is making holograms more advanced, not science. Well it is science, I suppose.
The human eye is not perfect.
@@Justwantahover Yeah. It has a floating angel hologram
I've downloaded the iTunes versions and I'm shining a light at my iPod, but I don't seem to get the holographic effect.
It only works if you're using a laser.
You must have your iPod spinning at the wrong RPM.
+Michael Dust It's a joke
I find that they look best with the polarised light from a microwave oven, just make sure you set it to defrost first.
maybe because Kylo Ren stabbed your iPod and made it impossible for you to get the schematics for the spacecraft
There are Amazon links in the video description.
Edit - forgot the LOL - and the self-thumb-up
LOL
LOL
Can't find it here in Japan yet..
Love the idea though..
Fixed. Thanks.
Best vinyl ever! It might look sick in a dust cover.
Pretty cool efect. Jack White's Lazaretto also has this holographic effect but it's less intricate
The turntable shown in the video is a Sansui XR-Q7 - video here: ruclips.net/video/eNMmUMN3jrk/видео.html
first post has 123 likes and second post has 4 LOL
I showed this video to my dad, he immediately bought it. The holographic effects really looks great live
Oh man, this is so cool. Definitely going to have to grab it now.
The ‘B’ side of Dark Vinyl records are a pathway to many abilities some would consider “unnatural”.
Lol
Hehe
Imagine a Gorillaz album where 2D sings along with the track.
Hamman I like your style
Fuck yes
That is extremely specific.
I'd buy 20
Someone find a way to get this to their label!
Now I'm just waiting on the Aerosmith vinyl with holographic dancing stripper.
the stripper will end up being stev tyler. must go vomit now and for a while
You filthy swine sir!
lol
The originals should have that. But Disney doesn't know how to market Star Wars too well.
Maybe Apple Records will do It to a Beatles record maybe an animation of the Beatles walking across Abbey Road on a pressing of a 12" single of Come Together and Something
Holy f**k your turntable is gorgeous
100% agreed!!
Concur, didn't know Sansui made such a high end unit. That platter is crazy! I thought it was a Thorens at first, had to look close at the logo. Very cool!
What brand?
What brand?
I have the one where the hologram has been replaced with CGI!
pshh, i prefer practical effects on my vinyl, because [faaaaarrrrt]
Best lighting is a single-LED flashlight, a very small tracklight spot, or a white LED on a camera, held above and pointing down. To see a non-blurred hologram, use a painfully bright "point-source," not a wide frosted bulb.
Making your own DIY vinyl holograms, see the YT playlist: goo.gl/0Vq84F
Use two separate LED lights, makes two holographic images. Some technospeak: the deep 3D image is the "orthoscopic" image, while the flying, inside-out copy is the "pseudoscopic" image. Move your LED light source around and you can swap their positions.
Currently, other holo-vinyl albums are: Rush re-issue of "2112," also "Lazeretto" by Jack White.
Haha! It's the man himself! Thanks wbeaty for giving the internet diy world the firm foundations it needed! You're the best.
Always a well made video without compulsive zooming, panning or camera shake but with just a hint of your amusement at the sillier things you show - like this one.
I still want to live in those moments where we were finally getting a Star Wars sequel and when we were actually there to see it. I haven't had a special feeling like that since I was old enough to be at ROTJ while it was playing in theaters.
You happy now?
@@ramonparelladamartin4877 A real case of careful what you wish for.
Awesome! I love it when you make audio equipment and vinyl videos... I only have one album with a hologram on it, it's 2112 by Rush. I also like your british accent, as I'm from México it's more understandable to me than american english. Great video as always! Keep them coming! - IQ
What happens if you illuminate it with a laser?
If it's one of your lasers? Fire.
A lens-spread laser will make the image become perfectly sharp! These things are actually the same as Benton White-light credit-card holograms, but having hand-scratched diffraction fringes. Benton holograms are frequency-independent, and I realized that their diffraction patterns are size-independent. The fringes can have any spacing, yet the hologram still works. Try drawing the Benton holographic "zoneplate pattern" by hand with a needle? Yep, you've now made an actual hologram! See "Not true holograms?" link at amasci.com/amateur/holo1.html
Back in the mid-1990s when I invented this, I was telling everybody that it wasn't like CDROM holo-rainbow diffraction, instead it was "vinyl record diffraction!" That gave me one key to producing good ones: the lines must be like grooves from a Recording Lathe with no signal. A wiggling needle will destroy the image. Also it was obvious that we could use record-pressing machines to mass produce the Abrasion Holograms. It's as if we were poised in 1994 to have a whole Scratch-Holograms industry. But it didn't happen. It had to wait for someone to invent the full-circles version, wide-angle viewable from 360deg.
Then someone on RUclips discovered that, if we rotate the circular type, then the 3D image rotates too. Jack White put a rotating angel on a novelty vinyl pressing. Then Rush did it on a re-issue album. Several more appeared, followed by Disney Star-wars soundtrack!
Then some researchers realized that Charles Wheatstone had been investigating this effect back in 1830! He even published a physics paper. amasci.com/amateur/holowhtstn.txt But then he got distracted, since the scratch holograms led him to discover 3D human vision, then to discover stereo photography and the stereopticon. He barely missed inventing Victorian Holography! If Wheatstone could know how close he came, he'd be kicking himself even now.
I'MA FARIN MA LAZOR!
@@HerecomestheCalavera For a second I thought your comment was from 4 years ago, but I always appreciate a good old meme.
WOW this is impressive!!! I'll have to show it to my workmate Ben. Thanks. :)
Old Ben?
That old man's just a crazy old wizard.
you deserve a cup of ice tea
Thanks for a new clip that isn't about boring dash cams.
A lot of people like the dashcam videos - I like making them. There will be more.
I prefer your audio vids too, but I'd rather you try new things with mostly things I don't like and occasionally something new I like. Besides from the dashcam videos, what other things will you be dipping your toes into? Thanks!
We know but we just like your other videos more, but to be honest most of us would watch you review a paper bag.
LOL
+BoloYung the puppet reviewing a paper bag would be hilarious!
The Millennium Falcon looks like it's spinning out of control D:
"I'm afraid I've had to talk all over it for copyright reasons..." LOL
Here's a hint: When showing 3D things thru a 2D camera, move the camera side to side to show the depth with the parallax.
I was genuinely wondering what it would be like in a vertical player. It's like you read my mind.
*_Damn... My 8-Tracks of The Force Awakens soundtrack only came with a comic book and three different colored 8-Tracks all in the clear-crystal colors of Lightsabers (green, red, and blue). I shoulda sprung for the records I guess..._*
A Tracks? Do you mean 8 Tracks?
You got all that already?? Man, I used the last of my crystals to send a message back through time and order an Egyptian Vase etched with The Force Awakens soundtrack around it and I haven't heard anything from my psychic friend yet to let me know the Aural Clerics of Giza got my message! You can't depend on anything these days...
This technology is going to revolutionise the porn industry.
all good inventions do....
you know its usually the other way around, they are bringing technology forward. back whem 4k was new most conent that was ready in 4k was... you guessed it, porn. heck they are also the ones that promoted streaming service and all that wich was first made for porn but then adapted to regular media, porn is going strong with VR,
Actually, we made holograms for both Playboy and Hustler back in the 70's, they were included in various magazine premiums. They were a novelty, and there was no demand for them. In the 80's a few magazines wanted hologram inserts as special features like images of cars, buildings, and company logos. Again they were novelties and not very successful so only offered here and there, in one issue or another.
Zyriuz2. The two technologies that revolutionized porn: VHS tapes when SONY wouldn't allow their BetaMAX to be used for distributing porn. And Quicktime/FLASH, both which allowed small low res images to be readily distributed, even if you only had a 56K modem. FLASH was faster and more compact, but for a while Quicktime VR was pretty popular for porn.
yep, the had been waiting for turntables for ages :))
Wooo! I am impressed! I can sit there and watch the thing -the same thing-over and over and over and over and over and over and over, and over, and over, and over ,and over and over, and over!
This LP with the holographic imaging would be the only reason I would ever purchase vinyl. Very clever very well done.
Mhmm, the music sounds much better in 4K then in 1080p.
Video resolution does not affect sound quality. Perhaps the 4K video file had a better sound than the 1080p file?
lochinvar00465 often hd video files will have much nicer and higher quality sound tracks
Some people didn't get the joke. Lots of kids.

I wish they put this much heart in their actual recent movies
probably the only channel i watch all the way to the end of the video (ie: after the content is over) in case of any Muppet easter eggs
That is incredibly cool! I can't say I've ever really had a strong desire to buy a NEW record, but I do now! Great video!
Dear Techmoan. Thank you for all your lovely videos. Yours sincerely. Me. PS. I think your puppet man should review something for a change.
That's not to say I don't like your style, I love it. Of course.
I second the notion of entire Muppet episode review of something appropriate for a Muppet to review. Other than stupid RUclips comments.
I would like to third this amazing idea.
Do it!
That would be great 😁
I wonder if you move the beam of light around at the right speed and in the right spot if you can make the tie fighter or Millennium Falcon look like it's flying around the record. I'd build a device to make such an effect possible. Cool!
It's more about where your eyes are in relation to the disc. If you could fly around the room then the image would spin around the disc. But if you could fly around the room, you'd have better things to be getting up to.
Watching this put a smile on my face. I have been a Star Wars dork since the 70s and I love vinyl, too. So much coolness here.
i had this vinyl its so cool to see the hologram in the dark
GOING INTO 4K QUALITY INSTANTLY OVERHEATED MY LAPTOP
AHHHHHH
When you said pay through the nose for it I expect a 3 digit figure. 38 gbp is acceptable
Heavy vinyl is usually 160gram and cheaper press is 80 or close to this. heavy uses 2 pellets.
To open a record sleeve (at least that doesn't unfold into two halves for doubles) you can save your plastic protective coating by opening it with a knife maybe but never do this always open them by running the opening side edge of the vinyl sleeve along your jeans a few times this will open perfectly a slice in the separation between the cardboard. you might have to finish the opening a bit with your finger but now you can slide your treasure in it's protective mat out and leave your perfect shrink wrap on to protect your cardboard sleeve artwork and keep any stickers price tags etc on the outer clear plastic. If you're into that sorta nerdy thing. Also some may not know most every record will have messages etched into the inner grooves that the press operator writes in between each pressing.
thx uploader for the info and great videos your a YT gem!
I have a gramovox as my only record player. I'm glad to see you are using it still and haven't gotten rid of it. You have an impressive hi-fi where you might notice an improvement in audio quality on your main turntable, but for me it's my main squeeze. I'm not going to pay $50 for Disney to get richer, but it's a cool novelty. Thanks for showing - I feel I got most of the fun out of it without having to see it in person.
It's definitely a collector's record, but those buying vinyl nowadays tend to be collectors.
really cool, i know it is hard to show us these kind of things but you tried your hardest, also your speakers sound really great what are they?
Whatever you are hearing is not his speakers, they are the speakers from your computer. The sound came from his speakers, to his camera mic, then is was encoded in his computer and then it was encoded again on RUclips and then you are hearing it again via your own speakers. If it sounds good it is because you have good speakers.
Cesar Ramirez oh wow really, are you sure? Because normally when I listen to RUclips poop it does not sound nearly as good
OK - I see whats happening here - Peter, stop poking Cesar with a stick...and Cesar, please ignore Peter.
Now lets all play nicely.
Well, what speakers do you use anyhow?
your's :P
Nice to see vinyl get this extra feature. I hope more will follow! Another nice review from Techmoan :-)
That turntable looks beautiful.
Not a Stars Wars fan, but man this looks sick!
You're missing out!
Rush had 2112 done with this for the second side. Granted, I'm wondering if they did that just to trick fans into listening to the second side one more time.
I think even non Star Wars fans agree that Star Wars does have a really good sound track.
This 4K stuff is over rated. Can't tell a damn difference on my 4K HD smart watch. My eyes must be going.
4k? And that matters here why??? Stay off the "smart" watch, it ain't helping.
First of all, 4k is old news now - heck it's on phones and 72" screens and Go Pro cams can shoot even higher res with faster frame rates - (there is no 1440p genius) Last I heard better, faster, bigger has NEVER had to be pushed on anybody. Just ask the 150,000 people that have bought Teslas. And 99% of people couldn't fill in a map of the USA but that doesn't mean they should get hosed! ~
+cuda426hemi mate he's taking the piss a smart watch screen is like 400x400
1440p does exist and is four times the resolution of HD (720p). 4K is four times the resolution of full HD (1080p). So stop making everything a pissing contest and learn something for once in your life
1440 can be a screen resolution NOT a broadcast standard, idiot.
Now THIS is the kind of cool shit that makes vinyl so awesome. I wish there were even more people doing creative shit like this.
Retro technology is so fascinating, cause it makes you wonder how did they think of it and how they got it to work
I would love to see you reviewing Jack White's Lazaretto
That is freaking amazing... "I've had to talk all over it for copyright reasons" LOL
Vinyl was always great, this is another cool thing you can do with it.
jack white did this a couple years back iirc
Yup, and the hologram on his album was etched by the same guy who did these. It's just much smaller.
what on earth does the immunity and infection research centre have to do with this and jack white?????
We did this with the original Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band soundtrack LP, by the BeeGees, back in the 70's.
The glimmic of that album are the only reason to own it. The music is bland crap and I love the white strips
Phiniox Glade iPhones are also gimmicks… people love gimmicks. Next year they can reissue these pressings by merely using pink plastic next time.
Normal person: OMG so cool!
Me, an intelectual: *FUTURAMA*
What a great way of exploiting all the benefits the LP format has to offer! Almost nobody goes through the effort of designing separate large format booklets for their LP releases anymore.
That's why I subscribe to techoman he keeps me in the loop.
As a child of the 1970s and 1980s, the real reason anyone bought soundtrack albums for movies that such great composers like John Williams (Star Wars, Superman: The Movie, and Raiders of the Lost Ark) had written was there was NO HOME VIDEO in those days and the only way you could enjoy great movies of that period at home was to buy the vinyl soundtrack album, which often contained awesome artwork and pictures and glossy booklets containing some info about the movie as well. While I thought TFA was great, I only had to wait 4 months until the movie came out on Blu-Ray. This vinyl soundtrack holograph with spinning spaceships is a gimmick to get people to buy the soundtrack album, when they really don't need to buy it anymore.
collegeman1988 You thought that movie was great? You poor soul....
Unless you want the music isolated from the other audio in the film, or if you like the music but don't care for the film.
very cool...I wonder if a sl1210 mk2 built in light would make it work...?
I think It will work even better.
I must get the vinal anyway. ..thanks
No.
Nope, the light source needs to be about a meter away, above the vinyl, with the spotlight aimed at the scratched area.
Also, a "line source" of light will work. Try one of those aquarium light-bulbs with the visible filament. But in that case the image is very dim, and also you have to line up the bulb so the end of the filament points towards your head.
Also, you can make your own rotating scratch-holograms in the dead-wax region of old records. All that's needed is a two-points compass. A dull compass point works better for scribing, so perhaps use a small nail in place of the supplied sharp point.
Wow...intresting info..thanks
good way to show 3D is to record from two cameras, that are placed at eye distance, focus the center on something, then in editing just quickly alternate from one to the other.
That´s really cool!
Can we get one with Jefferson Starship
LIGHT THE SKY ON FIRE JEFF STARSHIP, LIGHT THE SKY OF FIRE!
You're bringing up the Holiday Special, aren't you. ; )
Graham McKemy maybe.
I absolutely think Jefferson Starship's first album 'Blows Against the Empire' was one of George's un-stated inspirations for Star Wars. The story on the album is very much like 'an early, musical version' of SW if such a thing existed.
Fantástico. Simplesmente fantástico! Rio RJ Brasil
Great Video. I Love Your Channel. I love watching each and every video you make. Very Informative.
Super cool new twist idea to bolt on to our much loved 68 year still in the running! format.
Still waiting for RUclips to support an audio better than 192kbps.....
Your record player is beautiful..... want!
I got this, it's amazing. Even without the hologram I would love it, the music is great and the booklet with pictures is great and everything. One of my favorite records in my collection.
That is a beautiful turntable!
This guy is almost like ashens lol
cool
awesome.my brother is overly excited with his.I need to check it out when he comes to town again.thanks for sharing
I just ordered a copy of this album, so thanks very much for your video which nicely shows the contents and the holograms.
who was the one person wondering what it looked like on a vertical turntable? come on speak up...who?
Turns out there were a couple. You'll find them earlier in the comments.

The 4K looks the same on my 1080p monitor why bother??
;-)
Can I get this in CD or casette format.
;-p
It looks the same at 1440p too. What's the point!
For people with higher resolution monitors, especially extra large ones, 4K looks much better.
How much is much?
Damn it. Caught red handed !!! ;-)
Good grief! You posted something new, useful, interesting and well produced. There is a first time for everything! WELL DONE!
That's really impressive, and it's great that they're still innovating new and exciting ways to market the vinyl records for people like myself who love to collect "gadget albums"
I've never heared of a vertical vinyl player... and it seems like a pretty stupid idea! Why would you do that?
Space saving idea, perhaps? You might be able to hang it on a wall.
Why, our friend Mat has done at least two videos on these very things. The latest, from just a week ago, is the Flamingo PS-F9 by Sony; it was produced in the early '80s, but would be comfortable among today's audio equipment especially with the resurgence of vinyl. It was indeed designed to be mounted on a wall, thought it also has a nifty stand mechanism on its base.
It was an experimental idea that never was too popular or practical.
Vestax made a turntable that you hold like a guitar, with shoulder strap included. It played records while you could move it and could even scratch with it. It was meant to be for DJ performances, but it was proof of concept only.
That would be cool if the made car tires like that. ;-)
You just might be on to something. Hubcaps that would advertise and a magnetic point source LED light that mounts on the fender.
Aside from the technical problems, do we really need more distracted drivers?
Dosbomber LOL

Don't you be taking the Bobster's and my next million dollar idea now. These holographic super dope dubs (aka dubcaps) will revolutionize the Cadillac Escalade bling market. Tired of the existing holoprojected rim on dubcap side A? Simply flip the dubcap to side B for a new 42" in-your-face rim design.
The Dollar Guy I like it! ;-)
This particular use of hologram seems like an instant antique...
The 4k looks amazing on my 1987 Timex watch. Thanks Technoman.
Holograms and vinyl. Two reasons why I won't be wasting my money on this!
Cool.
Cool story bro.
You forgot Star Wars, another good valid reason not to waste your money.
Could they have picked a less deserving movie?
That looks great, I can really see the 3D effect, and the audio quality of your speakers is superb!
(to make things clear, this is a joke)
I've got a copy of Jack White's "Lazaretto" album on vinyl, which includes a hologram of a spinning angel on one side (which was etched by the same guy who did the ships on this release). I only bought it to check out the hologram. It's pretty cool. That album also has a ton of other weird vinyl features, which justified the purchase for me because I'm not a Jack White fan.
im tempted to buy it also. One side playing from the inside out, the hidden tracks under the label that plays at different speeds, holograms etc....
So pleased your using your disposable income on things like this, I just hope it was embarrassingly expensive.
"300 pounds you say? Say no more, sold".
+Luca Van £300!! Hehe, hey techomoan , I've got a Saturday Night Fever album with a massive cock scratched on it for sale, barging at only £280. Ffs

That's not bad at all for a collectors item.
It's alright m8, he buys fun stuff so poor people like you can live vicariously :)
I have an old Star wars album on vinyl and it sounds great.... It wouldn't be the same on any other format.....
I literally was thinking "I wish he put that on his vertical turntable" for some reason just before you wondered if anyone wanted to see that. Very cool
The hologram that floats above the record is interesting. Isn't that the Holy Grail of making holograms? A eureka? I mean it's just like the holograms in the movies, an image floating in mid air and nothing around it. All the holograms I've seen are inside transparent inverted pyramids. Don't need the pyramid any more, just a straight shining light.
That's fabulous, I love that kind of immersive collectable. Thanks Techmoan!
This is extremely cool. There's a large metal piece at the Museum of Mathematics in New York City that uses this method to display a large number of mathematical surfaces and knots.
WOAH spinning holograms like this could make a huge comeback if you made a small wooden version for kickstarter...
Love that turntable!
This is gorgeous
That is so cool! I have a Jack White Record and Gn'R with the same effect. Super cool!
Nice record players man, especially the vertical one, I have actually never seen that before..
Thing of beauty!
Cool video too.

the Dr. Dre commercial with "Got No Strings" just killed my Disney experience and even the Age of Ultron experience. ughhh whyyy
As vinyl and Star Wars lover, wow, just wow..!
This is awesome!
Cool to leave it in display at your turntable
it's called a specular hologram, and it works by reflecting regular light.
great video as always sir! Also..nice ortofon cartridge!
That's like Jack White's Lazaretto Ultra LP vinyl. That includes many cool features, one of the is a hovering angel hologram.
