Over the past 5 years, Third Man Records has brought to life many ideas that are new to the century-old vinyl format. So, when it came time for the creative hive to discuss the vision for the pressing of Jack White's Lazaretto, we were keenly aware of what it would take to produce a piece of wax worthy of the music it would contain... No single innovation would suffice. We needed to go big. We needed to go bold. We needed to press an ULTRA LP.
- 180 gram vinyl
- 2 vinyl-only hidden tracks hidden beneath the center labels
- 1 hidden track plays at 78 RPM, one plays at 45 RPM, making this a 3-speed record
- Side A plays from the outside in
- Dual-groove technology: plays an electric or acoustic intro for "Just One Drink" depending on where needle is dropped. The grooves meet for the body of the song.
- Matte finish on Side B, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record
- Both sides end with locked grooves
- Vinyl pressed in seldom-used flat-edged format
- Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record
- Zero compression used during mastering of this LP
- Different running order from the CD/digital version
- LP utilizes some mixes different from those used on CD and digital version Видеоклипы
I love how this feels like two students giving a presentation.
Lmao it’s the way they stare at the record the whole time 😂
LoL 💯 agree. I got that feeling/thought but didn't think to comment on that. It def is
you can't deny the dude's love for vinyl. the intricacies of this record is insane.
oooooooooh i love j white
Guessing this is defiantly going in the vinyl collection
this is amazing, but only in 1981!! retromania sucks!!!
elizabeth lamont you should
Ikr! I really need this record, now i need money and a turntable.
Jack White is the perfect balance of genius and madman
***** Are you upset? You seem pretty upset about something.
***** Gee, that's terrible!
+Turk420 Thats one perspective I guess...seems like a lot trouble for something that WILL NOT catch on lol
LOL! THAT ANGEL IS INSANE!
WAS ABOUT TO POST THE SAME!
They really sold me on this and I dont even get into the white stripes like that.
Holy cow, thats crazy creative!
Y'all know this is just his opinion, right?
in the words of Ron burgundy, "You son of a bitch…"
bought this lp. put it on from the outside uninformed. sat there for 5 mins listening to a feedback lock groove and I was like what the actual fuck. found out what it was.
SAME
Yeah, this LP has a weird playing groove where you have to start on the inside instead of the outside.
@@killer92173 Someone should make a video showing that o.0
Jack white is a fucking genius, He put more thought into the production of this vinyl then alot of artists put into there whole record! He has that perfect mix of crazy and talent!
The vynil can also cook, clean your room and if you're clever you can also eat on it !
I picked this vinyl up this weekend...and I've been blown away with all the crazy madness included on it. BRILLIANT!
+MetalJesusRocks yo MJR I'M ULTRA SPOOKED TO SEE U HERE
+MetalJesusRocks you should pick up this game called hotwheels stunt track challenge on ps2. it's the best racing game on PS2 and PC
I know you! Love your gamer channel dude. Small world. haha.
9mins explaining why Jack White is coolest, most inventive and creative guy in the production of rock and roll music today. I salute your solution!
Amazing....hard to imagine still finding something new to do with an LP. Always been a fan of his music anyway, but this is very impressive.
Third Man is going further in the rabbit hole and while from an outsider is feels a little circus like. I have to applauded the spirit and love in which they do these things. It makes me feel like a kid again. Thank you guys!
I seriously thought the record was broken when I played for the first time...should've seen this first
Santiago Orozco Do you still have it?
San Orozco SAME. SO GLAD I LOOKED IT UP
me too
You know i don't know or care about Vinyl but their intrigue makes me curious to see if i am able to hear a difference in sound quality that Jack White is such a fan of.
The part where he said, "Each copy comes with a free mp3 download code, so there is no reason to complain about anything, ever again." was funny.
You should get it, it is really cool, even if you aren't a big fan of vinyl it is still quite a lot of fun to try and work out all the little secrets of the album. And also all the effort you have to put into finding the secrets makes the song so much more rewarding.
daaaamn johnny depp, back at it again with the crazy records.
AHAHAHAHAH
Wow, just seeing this and still didn’t know about this cutting edge stuff 8 years ago, I can only imagine the progress….
Such a cool project from a man so passionate about music and vinyl. We love you Jack! Can't wait to get my hands on this x
Quit blowing my mind, Jack White! I can't take the madness any more!
Is it a coincidence that Jack managed to change the intro on his THIRD attempt?! Well yes probably but it's still cool
Why is that a coincidence?
He's obsessed with the number 3
I'm throwing money at my screen as hard as I can :(
montezumasrevenge you're a special kind of person, aren't you?
Large Farva likes Jack White? Nice man. Enjoying the nascar vids btw
Try canadian money lol.
I just keep throwing my creditcard...
I just keep throwing my shit
Just amazing how someone can come up with an album like that in 2014. Bravo Jack!!
This is a great example of being passionate about your art. With people like Third Man we're in safe hands. I hope...
Overwhelmed by the beauty of the angel holograms! Jack is a true innovator and Renaissance Man with endless exquisite dreams.
A true labor of love. I totally feel Jack on this one. Ron, you gotta watch this.
Awesome...
The best part of this whole video is seeing how happy Jack is just talking about the LP. Like he’s smiling with every word ugh, I love it when we talk about how passionate we are about vinyl. Jack is a saint
It's good that there are still artists left who care about sound, like White and Young.
Great sounding album, great dynamic range in the sound. Class act.
There is absolutely nothing to dislike here!
It's pure magic, art and music!
I have been wanting this album on LP to go with my Jack white and White Stripes LP Collection and I just got this record yesterday and I was so confused when I first started playing it. I had no idea records could recorded onto backwards like this. Such a brilliant record.
Jack White is the fucking man.
*EVERYBODY LISTEN UP*
I'm about to answer the #1 question in the comments:
That is a Gates CB-500 Transcription turntable with a Gray Research tonearm.
Thumbs up this comment so everyone can see it, please.
interesting stuff there guys

This is why I love vinyl LP. All sort of nifty neato stuff in Jack White's latest release. I'm definitely saving my pennies for this one - this is going to be a collector's item, for sure.
It's also an attest to the technology - it's over a century old, and it still works, works well and continues to innovate. Thanks so much, Jack!
#jackwhite #innovation #vinylrecords
Personally, I think it would have been a lot cooler if Jack White and Third Man Records just released this and let people figure it out for themselves. This all seemed so canned and over the top.
Caleb Weyhrich
Travis Grant yeah, it would have been cooler if word of mouth promoted this LP release, but I think Jack and WOM records thought it best to do a PR video. it worked - I'm saving my pennies to buy this LP for sure and want to try all the gimmicks myself!
Recently got myself some records and while there's a lot I want to go out and pick up, if im lucky enough to find one of these floating around it'll definitely be a must have, especially with all the love put in to making this thing so crazy and beautiful
Bravo! Jack White and everyone at Third Man Records work very hard to keep music and music listening fun. I applaud all of these ingenious ideas and I can't wait to get this vault package.
This whole getup is brilliant. I love the idea of having the locked grooves be musical. Like I could imagine using a raining loop for a locked groove to make it sound likes it's actually raining. Really cool stuff.
Yep. I got it for the gimmicks as I've never listened to Jack White before. I'm happy to say that I really enjoyed the music.
Too much love for this man
Jack could have taken each of these ideas and created an album per idea. He decided to put them all in one album. This is crazy!
Just got this one for Christmas and I love it!
This is my FAVORITE LP I have ever bought and listened too. Jack White is a wizard
Wow....Jack White, you are such a true innovator. I think what you have done and are doing in the music industry is so very much needed. *I am a true fan of music that I can not only hear, but feel as well*. I love vinyl for its rawness. There is truly nothing like it. The crackling sound from tiny dust particles adds so much to the beauty of any song. I just wanted to thank you for all of your efforts to revitalize vinyl :D
Saw this yesterday. Very cool!
I was in the explorers group in the 70s and we went to Blair to learn how records were pressed
All this is new to me
Glad to have another opportunity to learn
I can't wait to download this.
Thanks for all of your great, creative work.....and, for your great music!!!!! I enjoy your music greatly..... :)
I work for a pressing plant and when I get the weekly request to handle a backwards 66rpm semi transparent animated mirror finish 11" square record that will suck up the next 6 months of my life I wanna cry. Usually the quality of the music being pressed is inversely proportional to the cost of gimmicks and packaging.
Love how much thought was put into this.
I just picked up this record today, and it is fantastic! Totally worth it!
I freaked when the first side finished and the blaring guitar siren came on. I thought something happened to my needle.
Amazing record. Jack White is always coming up with something wonderful. Third Man records ohhh yaaaaaa
This video alone made me buy this record. And I love every song. You rock TMR and Jack White.
This is pretty cool. Im a high school student that got into vinyl this year. Its such an art. If we could have more lps like this, more people would buy vinyl and it would be a bigger market. I can see the reasoning with starting the record in the center. Each side would end with nodistortion since you dont end at the inner part of the record. I really need to get this!
I didn't grow up on vinyl, so I don't have an old player laying around but I like the ideas of where this is headed. I like it.
Got mine delivered yesterday, beyond cool. Love the packaging, it came with MP3 downloads, the hidden tracks are just.. too much for words.
Monty Python did something similar with their "Matching Tie & Hankerchief" LP by putting hidden sketches on the album if you set the needle in a certain spot. This is awesome.
just bought this! so excited!
just pre-ordered it. love ya jack white. this is gonna be a fun record!
Thanks to my line of work, I think I'm of a few people who has actually come across discs with almost all those "features" aside from the "hologram" of course (which is pretty darn cool)!
Fantastic !
This is really FUN!! 🤩
This is fantastic! I can't wait to get my hands on it.
this is fuqn insane!!! That Angle is crazy wicked awesome!!
I remember getting my first turn table this last Christmas and, already knowing about it's existence, wanted it to be one of the first LPs I ever bought. It may not have been the first one I bought but I own a copy and it is one of my most prized possessions.
Triple Deckers, Liquid Filled and now Hologram Angels. Thanks for another mind bend Jack ... I love where your creativity travels. ♥
Great and generous idea! Perhaps this is all forgotten, but the first (and only?) Johnny Moped LP issued by Stiff Records in England circa 1977 had two first songs on the A side. They were rolled together. Depending where you put the needle, you get one or another...
Got it yesterday! It's a masterpiece , jack you are a genius 👌
This is why we love you, Jack!
I wanted to see if this was the first time these things were done on a record, so I started playing every record of all time. Got as far as the Beach Boys Greatest Hits Volume II, and quit. Someone else will have to pick up this research.
"Marillion - Brave" already had dual grooves on Side D for an alternative ending of the story (it's a concept album)
i can not wait!!!! i like this !!! great idea !!!
I can not wait to get this .!
Great album !! Unique !
That's Amazing Jack White And Third Man Records Never HAVE I Ever Bin Disappointed With Anything U Have Ever came out with
He's done it again....never stop!!!
I am so glad I bought the ultra lp. The difference between cds and vinyl is you listen to a cd , with the records its an experience, bands would put alot of creativity into not just the music but also the packaging as well, look at Zeppelin III , or physical graffitti, then you have whatever poster or stickers the artist puts in it, you go buy a cd or mp3 you end up with the songs and maybe a few pics? I whole heartedly believe we are even discussing vinyl records is because of Jack!!!! ,
Now I really can't wait for my next vault package!
8:25 you can see Jack's mind revolting at the mention of mp3s
08:00 looking at Jack White looking at a spinning record is rewarded with that smile.
That's Awesome Jack, I'm a big fan. If you want a quick laugh, my 5 year old son did a video on how to write a Jack White song in 30 seconds. I think you'll get a kick out of it, the little guy played ,drums, guitar and bass
"Look at me I fell from a tree and now I hurt myself" lmao!
JJ Gullis thanks JJ
The Hip-Hop song killed it totally :DDD Your son nailed it!
***** thanks a lot
That's right man that Hip Hop song is great! :D
what kind of turntable is that?!?!?!
His voice like butter and honey blend together
I can't wait. It's too long to wait, the intensity will kill me. I NEED this record
Cool! This is Jack's version of the MAD magazine Mystery Record. I still wonder if playing Side A in this backward way will ruin an (expensive) needle or the vinyl. I hope later pressings of the LP will be mastered in the conventional way. BTW the Gates 16 inch radio transcription turntable for the video is a nice touch for the video!
Just amazing innovation
I have to have this for my collection wow🙏
This makes me want to buy is, and I don't even own a record player. Awesome, Jack again shows what can be done in what we thought was a limited and old fashioned medium. Love it!! :D
Outstanding
Huge fan of Jack's but the Hipster is really strong in this video.
You are such a tool.
FilmNerd85 Tool? Yeah they're a pretty good band too. Not as good as Jack but good. :-P
***** Nice.. flip the script
Hipsters pretend to know or care about music to be apart of that scene or in an attempt to be cool. They like to judge others for their music taste. They hate mainstream things.
So Jack White has internationally known songs like Seven Nation Army, Steady As She Goes, and now Lazzeretto that are mainstream. Jack White doesn't pretend to know about Vinyl. He fucking knows. He doesn't seem to be the type to care what people think of him or to be cool. He has established himself.
You and the dumb-asses who hit that thumb don't seem to know what a hipster is.
brilliant - so awesome
I like when Jack says "its a good place to end" because after he says it he looks at us and he's all like: See what I did there? Huh?
THIS IS AWESOME
Wow! BRILLIANT!
jack white said "never been done before" alot
Love this man!
me too!
So Awesome!
These guys are more genius then most think and most wouldnt know where im going with this. Theyr'e putting that record player thru McIntosh gear. Incredibly excellent choice for true audio
I love it…active listening.
love how he had the editors clip the video right after he specifically said "without any clipping"
Great..... now I have to buy it.
I bought a copy of the Lazaretto Ultra LP and really love it! Unfortunately, my copy didn't have the digital download card.
Lazaretto is an excellent album!
why am i not surprised that jack came up with something awesome again? i /need/ to get that vinyl.
megadeth had a locked groove on a 12" single that played from the center to the edge
LOL was one of the hidden songs singing about weed?!
LOL OMG WEED 420
It cracked me up. Did not see it coming.
