Very thorough explanation of how to water different orchid plants. And, your Peristeria elata is looking fantastic. Mine, likewise, has a flower stalk. It will be the first time blooming for me after 6 years of care. Thanks for the comment about repotting it. I didn't know that it didn't "like" repotting.

Very helpful (and concise!) as usual.. thanks! 😊 Also, thanks for sharing your Peristeria elata with us. I absolutely love it's blooms and I'm really looking forward to that video, with care tips, of course..haha! I have the very ambitious dream of having one in my collection some day. It's very unlikely, given where I am, but one can always dream, right?

Hi Olivier Tom here again. Both of us being from Florida where we have heavy showers even at night do you have a problem with rot and if so how do you prevent it. Also and I know this has nothing to do with the subject of the post but I am having a terrible time with thrips right now. I use Orthene spray which works but it kills everything good and bad. Do you have a secret weapon that you can share with me. Thanks.

      Hi Tom.
      1) I don't have problem with rot for 2 main reasons:
1.1) I live very close to the Ocean and in Ft Lauderdale, the ocean breeze chases storms inland. More importantly, my growing area enjoys great natural ventilation and I added several fans.
1.2) Subdue is an expensive but very effective fungicide. You can drench your collection once a month in the summer if you have issues with black rot.
You can also add outdoor fans (few last long as even those that are outdoor rated really don't hold up well)
Cutting immediately any affected tissue and disinfect with Hydrogen peroxide or Physan is a must.
      2) I have constant issues with thrips as well and I manage to get them (mostly) under control.
Every 6 days, I spray every single bud I have. I alternate Orthene with "Conserve" (which is spinosad) because bugs get used to a chemical and can become resistant to its use. By alternating products, you reduce the risk of resistance.
Not sure why you say "Orthene kills good and bad"? You should not spray too often but once a week should work fine and kill nothing.
      I hope this helps. Cheers!
