I went in '93 and had the best timing. A ranger was giving a talk about how the battle progressed. It was so informative. The only drawback was the heat.

    Hey Russ Pro-Tip!
When you get to a sign or memorial plaque, square up on it, full frame it so we can see and read it. Better yet take a clear picture of it and insert the picture in the video.

I stopped at the Bighorn Memorial in September of '75 driving cross country to Seattle. They really built it up tremendously. Back then, my friend and I walked up to the stone, white graves of the fallen soldiers and read the inscriptions. I think we spent three/four hours mesmerized with this experience, imagining what it all looked like a hundred years before. Thanks for stopping and showing this, Russ.

Thank you SO much for filming this area! I have wanted so much to visit here, just haven't been able to make it. When my "sod-buster" ancestors arrived from Norway & settled in So. Dakota, he got a job on a riverboat named, "The Far West." In June of 1876, the boat stopped on the Powder River to deliver 20 tons of "materiel" to the Little Big Horn. One of his grand-daughters wrote a biography of our ancestor's time on the "Far West" which included "the battle." While there seems to be many versions of the details of that battle, as I recall from the biography, four 4 days before the battle, the generals met on board the boat. On the day of the battle, when the crew were off-loading the materiel, an Indian scout for the Army (by the name of "Curley") rode up to them and was able to communicate that they should put everything back on the boat and get out of there -- the battle was over and all were dead. Instead, the captain of the boat had the crew cut as much grass as they could and line the deck with it. Shortly, a few survivors did arrive -- none of them were under Custer's command; at least one of the generals, General Terry who telegraphed his account to General Sheridan when they arrived at a nearby fort); and one horse named Comanche which belonged to a Capt. Keogh, and which had been shot 7 times. So much more to that event, but extremely interesting -- I appreciate so much to be able to see this area and the memorial. Thank you.

Hoping you went up on the bluff to go see Yellowstone Kelly’s grave and memorial and stop and see the wonderful little museum right across the street from the airport. Definitely worth the stop and do the driving tour.

Great video. One little story. When General Custer brought the seventh calvary from North Dakota to the Little Big Horn, he had numerous Indian scouts. Two came back right after they arrive to report. " General Custer, I have good news and bad news, " the lead scout intoned. " Give me the bad news". "Well it looks like every Indian in the world is right over that hill in war paint. " " The good news?". " I don't think we are going back to North Dakota"

🙋‍♀️Hello Russ! I liked seeing this memorial. It's huge. I was impressed with the Indian Memorial. Would have loved to have stayed a little longer by the wall. So much to absorb. Loved the metal sculptures. Beautiful! Our Walmarts in Galax, Va. plays music sort of loud. You have good taste when shopping. Muenster is a favorite of mine too. I like the Hillshire containers best for leftovers later, freezing, or microwaving. I love my electric skillet. I wandered too, what did for meals. You never seem to stop, & you looked to be loosing weight via your reflection in the windows, I thought. It's always nice to see who yo👍ur riding shotgun with once in awhile.😊 Safe Travels. I liked the Welcome to Wyoming sign.

The battlefield is a ‘must see’ if you are any where near it. I’ve been there 3times , the 1st was with my wife about 20 years ago. I remember thinking about that time how recent WWII seemed to me and at the time I was born Custer’s Battle must have seemed recent to some . The 2nd time I was passing through with my son and son-in-law on a hunting trip. They were in their 30’s and in a big hurry to get hunting but I made them stop. They didn’t react much and I thought I had done a good job of boring them but some years later the subject came up and I was blown away by how impressed they really were with it and glad we had stopped. The last time just a few years back I took my grandsons, we listened to a park ranger give the best intuitive speech ever of the battle and circumstances of the time. History stories make Custer out to be a fool or ‘gun-ho’ but his orders were to engage the Indians when he found them. He didn’t know there was 5000-10,000+ of them, depending on who’s account you go by. A very good book to read is ‘Wooden Leg’ as told by a Cheyenne warrior who was there and later lived near there until the 1930’s , less than two decades before I was born. It’s a must stop.

Being that you have a great van I'm surprised you staying so many RV parks. I travel with a teardrop and never stay in a private RV park. I'm very frugal and don't like being hip to hip in one. 😏
