Good tips, back in the early 1990s we used a weapons catch made by Blackhawk, it worked but we wound up using simple bungee cords hooked onto our PCs, it was less bulky and only cost a few dollars.

Pretty good video. Lots to think about since I run the MDRX. I’ve been happy with just using a sling since it’s smaller than every other rifle I’ve been issued. I’ll have to think about adding the retention strap for carrying with the Flux.

I prefer a single point sling hooked to the right shoulder of my plate carrier.
This allows me to use both hands by simply allowing the weapon to hang from my shoulder and it points down at the ground. The weapon can't be taken from me or pointed at me while it's hooked to the carrier. If I'm being body dragged by the handle on my armor then my weapon stays with me. The weapon can also be used one handed using the sling as second point of contact if my left hand or arm is hit. The sling connects to the weapon with a QD mount and can be dismounted with the simple push of a button.
It took me a while to figure this out because almost everyone uses two point slings, but now that I have it the way I want, I can't even imagine using a two point sling.

Great video Dorr. I used one of those belt mounted weapon retention back years ago. Always loved it.
Something cheap and easily available is to use simple bungie straps, much like the helo retention lanyard method you used. Found it worked great for me when I did not run the belt that had the other system

if you need to consider - you don't need that item. Because if you were in need, you probably already had it or been in search for some time. those were common enough at the time so it would probably took you 2 days to find out.

I'd like to train close-quarters hand-to-hand weapon deployment. How do you safely deploy your weapon in the clinch... against a an opponent who knows how to stop you from deploying it? We already train weapon retention (keeping your weapon) and weapon ejection (removing the weapon from the situation) and weapon deplyoment impedance or WDI (stopping the other guy from getting his weapon out) but we don't study counter-WDI techniques. I think we should though.
Wait, who's this "we"? I hear you ask... uh, it's myself and my classmates at the traditional jujitsu dojo I attend.

if you can be shot. or have a lot of "very smart" guys on your shooting range. but in other cases no. its better have 12g, 9mm,.45cal. proof slick vest for a bad neighborhood, the one that is a full old school west, not just plate carrier, than full on 2 nj4 plates.

If you are in a combat type situation, you should have your weapon in your hands at all time or at least slung across your chest in a low ready, if you make contact and have to reach back for your rifle you're already dead!!!

do you understand that you are not alone? and you secure the gun ONLY in situations when you need to do some manual stuff? and they are most of the time not direct combat situations? like carry someone, use cutters, saw. with what asscheak you were listening? left or right?
