Some minor things I'd like to point up:
Hidden Power is not actually faster than sticking with Mud Slap. I massively overestimated the amount of time Mud Slap lost, and it's turning out that sticking with Mud Slap ended up with around ~1:10-1:20 of timesave (the exact number is fuzzy as the newest iteration of the TAS isn't complete). Although in any case this just easily cements Rattata as the best option for TAS.
"RNG seed" isn't quite an accurate way of describing of Gen 2s RNG (although it is appropriate for describing Gen 3+'s RNG). The RNG rather works in tandem with a hardware timer; in this case it's just a fast timer that loops from 0-255 constantly. Even more ridiculously, the RNG simply takes this timer at points and does a simple substraction on the current RNG state. Slightly altering inputs alters the time this timer is queried, thus modifying the RNG.
Route 35 (route north of Goldenrod) is quite different in Pokemon Gold compared to Crystal. While Crystal it can be passed by avoiding spinners, this is not the case in Gold, where there are static trainers which must be fought if that route is taken.
The Abra timesave also misses the point that it is used for getting to the Power Plant twice, with the first time taking Rock Tunnel rather than the route east of Cerulean. The reason is again another Gold/Crystal difference. Gold has more unavoidable trainers east of Cerulean compared to Crystal, so while it's better for Crystal to use that route, it is not for Gold, which opts instead to use Rock Tunnel, then use the Pokemon Center right after Rock Tunnel for an Abra teleport spot for the second trip to the Power Plant.
(These reasons are also why Abra is used in RTA, they of course turn out to apply to the TAS too).

@@alexlamoureux1049 Jasmine just needs an X Attack, then her teams goes down easily enough without Hidden Power (instead of Hidden Power x2 Hyper Fang Hidden Power x2, it goes X Attack Mud Slap x2 Hyper Fang x3. Slight bonus here that mitigates some timeloss is the extra flinch here.

It makes sense in the context of Gold/Silver. In those games, releasing the legendary beasts is optional, rather than a mandatory sidequest like in Crystal. It also requires fighting an optional trainer, and acquiring Rock Smash. These things make even solo Totodile line faster than Raikou.
Keep in mind too the Crystal TAS acquires Raikou (given releasing the beasts is mandatory), and even is several minutes faster than the Gold TAS (but that's probably more due to Gold/Silver having several more mandatory trainers than Crystal)

Am I right in thinking there was a really old TAS (might be like ten years old at this point) that used Geodude, and abused Magnitude, Rollout and Quick Claw to plough through everything?
How does Rattata compare to Geodude. Genuinely surprised that anything can compete with a mon that, from a very early level, has what under TAS conditions effectively becomes a 300 base-power STAB move (which even has a lovely 30 PP).

Sooo this is something I definitely wanted to add to the video, but a Rattata RNG Manipulation for Pokemon Gold/Silver currently does not exist, and very few people in the community can actually make a Manipulation for one in the first place. So comparing a human Rat vs a human Gatr run was unfortunately not an option since I have nothing to go off of for a Human Rattata run. :/

    • @TheRenegade191
      @TheRenegade191 9 месяцев назад +4

Totodile runs require you to get a decent Totodile in the beginning
Rattata relies too much on hyper fang flinches to not die against things it can't ohko with a critical hit. Raticate has defenses comparable to Totodile mind you.
Edit: unless you do extra leveling, you have to fight whitney's miltank with a Level 18 rattata, and it outspeeds you, so that's not happening lol

The heat death of the universe would occur before a human runner got lucky enough to complete a run using the TAS route.
Some things done in TASes are just flawless versions of what humans do in RTAs; but some tricks or route choices are things humans would never even attempt because they require unreasonable levels of precision or luck.

TAS runs are supposed to be showcases of the theoretical limit for a game, they do not compete with human-completed runs and attract a different crowd of people as a whole. They're more about showcasing your knowledge of the inner workings of the game and manipulating everything you can to work in your favor. It's fun seeing these strats be TAS viable when in regular runs, they'd be anything but optimal.
TAS runs can also be done purely for fun - I highly recommend checking out a few of the runs from the TAS block hosted at GDQ (brain age is my personal favorite out of all of these)!
