Just to add to your data, I had my RTV serviced last week (GR86, Manufactured Date: 10/2023) and there was only 1 blob and a few small chunks. It might have been one of the lowest amount of RTV going off all your videos so far. It had 1,000 miles on the odometer with proper break-in procedure.
This is my observation from working on my car and an engineering perspective. Cast/forged , thick aluminium pan. Stock pan has too much flex under clamping force, between bolts. Too thin. That’s why from the factory, they apply a generous amount of sealant to be on the safe side. Technically, with minimum flex, you should be able to get away with around 0.1 mm of sealant thickness spread around the mating surface. Also thick aluminum pan would make it a structural component. Everything flex like a liquid, depending on the torque or the timeframe of observation.
I know this RTV issue has been a long time issue with these cars but being an owner of a GR86 I noticed these cars burn some oil not sure if this is an issue or normal for boxer engines, I took my car to Toyota and took them months to run test but they came to a conclusion that it burns oil if the car gets pushed hard but thing is I don’t really push my car like that this is just my daily. Not sure if anyone has had this issue as well, also checking oil level is so weird on boxer engines sometimes it can get complicated to check oil level
There’s no evidence that excess RTV can cause engine failure. Obviously it’s not ideal to find it. This early we don’t know much, only time will tell. Right now it’s just bro science
First time subarbu/boxer engine user. Any tips on maintenance specially hot climates, reaches 50 c ( above 120 F degrees ) in the summer ( maybe oil weight )? You mentioned a little overfilled all the time, how often do I need to check oil/coolant? Car is kinda daily and some time attack auto x events.
If the car is ran at ambient temps above 120 degrees fahrenheit, the factory recommended 0W-20 might not be a good idea especially if you track the car. Definitely try 5/10w-30 or 5/10w-40. If you have an oil pressure/temp gauge, you can make a more confident and informed decision with your results.
@@CMAutohaus I'm sure my Subaru dealer had to apply rtv bye hand I had to wait 5 months ! since they only had short block shipped from Japan all other components hand done. I feel confident rtv is not issues now.but I wouldn't know until I pull pan
actually they sucks a lot😅 Silicone is perfect! But only proper amount, quality and applying. I never had issue on so many Nissan, Honda and Toyota engines. This is only Subaru failure and every technician can do it better…

Why i got the 2024 Corolla GR premium instead 😊
I dont get it why the manufacturer this problem cant solve..
Have you had a chance to do late 2023 model?
Newest one Ive done is I believe 10/23 MFD
so your telling me if just a tiny piece gets through the strainer then the motor will grenade itself?

Thinking about buying a base Impreza just for a straight commuter car. Good buy or no? Gonna leave it stock put on maybe 5000 miles per year.
who applies the sealant, person or a robot?
Robot

Could you rtv check a new engine due to blown engine that's seized due to rtv ? Like mines did haven't checked since new motor was installed though
Yes

What ever happened to cork gaskets that worked great for cars for a hundred years.

@@jagymeister Can, most don't. Flat rate pay incentivizes sloppiness and if a little bit is good a lot must be better.
they are simple to install but i belive they are much more prone to wearing out and causing more leaks with age
Mine was manufactured 9/23. Do you think I'm safer? Ish?
Its still been hit and miss with 2023 MFD dates.
@@CMAutohaus I’m at 800 miles right now so around 1000 I’ll get an oil check done and ask for them to look for rtv I guess
Who is "them?" The dealership wont do this for you. @@SirBitingBen
@@CMAutohaus I refuse to go to the dealership, they already screwed me over when I got the car. I'm gonna take it to a shop my friend works at
Is it viable to replace the rtv with an aftermarket gasket?
Nope. It will leak.
@@wall7103 How do you know this?
@@wall7103 I believe you, I just wanna understand why
Yes. Felpro has a gasket for the FA20 (same pattern as FA24), but it is discontinued.
Hallo, ich möchte einen neuen gr 86 kaufen, wie viele km sollte ich ruhig fahren? Bis es glatt ist.
