Omg god I have always wanted a red rotary phone. They were impossible to get bc in Canada the government were the only ones to have them. I still have a beige rotary phone in my garage that works to this day and I do not think my great nieces or nephews have ever noticed it. I am definitely going to see if they could use it. I can’t wait I’m dying watching you guys do this lol.💕🍁🇨🇦

I was today days old when I learned that the shape of the Bell desk phone was designed to hold the receiver off-hook so you could dial the phone with one hand. And I was born in the 60s. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
This is so awesome!!! I have 2 rotary phones in my house, but I can’t get them to work on our land line. I love rotary phones. I have a pocketbook shaped like a pink rotary phone, and the receiver is actually real and can be plugged into a cell phone and used.
If you can't dial out from a rotary phone, then the thing is that the CO and equipment in your area that serves your line only supports DTMF dialing. Rotary phones like the red one the OP has use pulse dialing, which is basically making and breaking the connection to the CO equipment rapidly for varying amounts of time depending on thee digit that's dialed.
I have a 500 set at mi casa on landline service! also had one when I was in my twenties, and back then I *knew* how to dial out even though it was the mid 2000s. OIt worked for a few years, and then when the local telco CO shut off their SxS equipment it stopped working. At the time I thought the phone itself had failed, but those 500 sets are rock solid. Nowadays the CO has a DMS-100, which does both pulse dialing and DTMF, facilitating using both types of phone!

Go to antique stores and thrift stores/garage sales and you’ll eventually find one. You can also get a thing that uses Bluetooth to connect to ur phone and it will make the phone useable with your phone number.

from what I've watched, it seems that a lot of today's young whippersnappers (I'm 34, shut up) don't know how to dial out on a rotary phone. (I've seen a few wacky videos of parents presenting 500 sets to their kids and challenging them to dial a particular number; the results make me sad.) Hopefully there's kids out there who can dial out like a boss!
I'm 11 and my dad collected a lot of old tech when he was young back in the 80s and kept it and I love messing around with the rotary phones. I have a bunch of other things from the 70s 80s and 90s that still work and I still use a VCR and an 8 track player & I'm fascinated by how much It's changed in just around 6 decades. I also like the film cameras and old Polaroids. If anyone set a rotary telephone in front of me I'd know how to use that thing like I grew up in the 80s.
We had this telephone way back in 1979 in India. Totally unreliable. You had to dial 4 or 5 times just to get the correct number. And if someone called from London...it would feel like a call from Mars. We would have to shout at the top of our voice just to be heard. I think many family secrets were revealed this way. How things have changed over the last 40 odd years. But I miss the good old days.
I always wondered if that was a problem, like how often would you get the number next to the one you dialed?
@@veganwaffle 5 to 6 times. Like before you start the conversation you have to ask....is it 422891. That was my number in 1981. And they would say...it is 422892. So you try again and again...till you get the right number.
Can i ask how to know our own number for rotary telephone? Like if someone want to call us, where we can know our rotary telephone number? [Sorry for terrible English, im not a native]
@@user-pp1kr7cl3w The telephone company will tell you your number. Similar to the mobile SIM card today. The mobile number is on the envelope that contains the SIM card.
