This is not your typical trip report. In this video, I'll share what it's like to travel like a pilot as I explore a long haul pilot schedule by joining a United Airlines crew on their journey from Newark to Munich and back. A good friend of mine is a 757 / 767 pilot for United and I took the opportunity to join him on his long haul pilot schedule to Munich to pick up my girlfriend…and the channel’s creative director.
If you watch this video, you’ll see what it’s like to travel like a pilot and experience a long haul pilot schedule while I travel to Europe for 24 hours and still be standing at the end of the journey! I was pretty tired, but it was an eye-opening experience.
After this weekend where I traveled like a pilot on a long haul pilot schedule, I developed a new level of respect for pilots and flight attendants who maintain this kind of long haul schedule. Can you believe they regularly head overseas for only 24 hours at a time?! Such an intense experience - traveling like a pilot on a long haul pilot schedule!
A long haul pilot schedule is challenging, but the opportunity to see how hard these professionals work was certainly worth it!

As tiring as it was, I really enjoyed this experience! What else would you like to see from #CrewLife?
that pin that you have at the beginning of the video is somewhere in Westchester County, NY, not Newark, NJ.
A very, very cool video as always, Jeb!
Multi sector short haul next time?
Dispatcher videos!
Flighh attendants and how the prepare and work flights. Preferably short haul ones where they work several flights a day.
Thanks for showing people how hard transatlantic flights can be for us crewmembers. Sleep deprivation is no joke and it is hard to enjoy the layover in a cool new city with so little time but we do it, enjoy it, and still go right back with a smile on our face! Loved the video.
And then I actually travel like that all the time as I am a long haul pilot 😊
Cool man!! I'm 17 and want to become a airline pilot. I'm going to Kent State to get my R-ATP and 4yr degree. Any advice would be appreciated thank you.
Bill Russell Yeah, don’t do it lol. I fly heavies for a cargo airline. It’s a rough lifestyle, especially if you have a family.
@@billrussell4832 I went to Kent State last week for a flight lesson, and I toured their airport/flight program.
I’m a flight attendant and I don’t even know what a sleep schedule is anymore, I try to get afternoon trips but I’m on a morning one and it’s killing me 😂
I'm so happy you did a video featuring United, and didn't mention Delta once!!! : )
🤣👌
It's hard to not bring up the best air line in the US or maybe the world.
The RUclips studio is looking great Jeb! I normally hate having a seat mate when flying Business Class, but I think I’d definitely take one of the 2-2 seats in the United 767 over one of those single seats in the middle.
Cheers Jeb! Cool seeing the 767s! Particularly as I get older I really struggle with working nightshifts so hats off to the crews that do this. The constant fighting of your own body clock is really a tough job! Without wanting to sound harsh, the most difficult part of being a pilot would have to be NOT falling asleep on the flight deck.
What a unique video! It would have been interesting to get a quote/interview with the pilot friend to see what it’s like for them on these quick turn around.
Side note: how many little bits are in a lotta bit?
Hopefully he'll agree to get on camera soon!!
I think there are 5
did anyone see the guy on the bike wave at 6:40?
Yeetification no.
I did
This was fun Jeb! Great idea. Never flown on a 767-400 either so that was cool to see. ✈️
Thanks for watching, Chris! There aren't too many of them left, but they're magnificent machines!!
This is actually one of the best videos you have made. My dad was a Delta captain for 30 years doing mostly international flights and I went on multiple flights with him so I feel your “pain” haha
Jeb: I will do everything that the pilots do
Pilot: *Takesoff*
Jeb: Fu*k
Top notch video, Jeb. I really enjoy these day-in-the-life type videos. Get some caffeine and keep up the good work.
I’m a flight attendant and what you have to do is stay awake to be on track with your schedule for the crew van back to the airport. So you only take small naps or you will be up like you were
Cool video!! I did a similar trip to Dublin a few years ago to catch the last AA flight from CLT to DUB. ORD-CLT-DUB-PHL-ORD. Landed in Dublin at 0600. Saw the city. "Slept" in a hotel that night and then flew home the next morning. Funny as the crew that had flown me CLT-DUB was on my DUB-PHL flight. All flights in economy aside from CLT-DUB which was in one of the old school recliner seats. What an experience!!
Great education on what it takes to do this kind of work. I will forever remember to be kind to flight personnel.
Blinkist is awesome, respect that you chose a good sponsor and not some garbage like lots of other channels do
1 of your fellow airplane you-tubers just posted a helicopter trip he took to base camp MT everist surprised you haven't done the very same thing Noel phillips
It’s a three day/2 night trip. And you, or anyone else, will NOT get two full nights of sleep. Accept and understand this, and make the best of what sleep you do get. Oh, and that cheeseburger is one of my favorites! I was surprised you took a center (non window) seat there. The -400 is still a pretty sweet ride.
Pretty cool experience I am sure yes I do have much respect for these international crews!
I like these kind of videos although it may be hard for you these videos are really entertaining! I'd like to see more kind of videos like this!
Thanks! I had fun using a different than my typical "review." I definitely want to try more of this...stick around to see where it goes!
Jeb, I think what you left out of the equation is that the pilots have something to do to occupy their time. Love your videos and watch choices. Keep em coming!
I can’t wait till tomorrow, 10 hours 20 hours is too long!
As an airline pilot, the trick to fighting jetlag, for me, is to REMAIN ON MY HOME TIME ZONE. If I'm flying east, if I normally go to bed at 10 PM at home, on the east coast, I need to go to sleep around 1-2 in the morning... Plan out my sleep schedule. It can be difficult, but you get used to it after awhile. What sucks are the very early showtimes on the east coast. At home, it could be 1 am...
When I grow up , I want to be awesome like Jeb.
Great idea Creative Director 👍 enjoyed watching😁 many thanks as always 👊
Ah, yes, supreme leader jeb.
Yeah I think you nailed it a few times in this video... it´s not as glamorous as it may seem. 3 hours of wandering a city while being constantly tired and confused what time it is... but I´d still not change it for anything
Awesome video Jeb! And thanks for showing some appreciation to the crew. Flying longhaul might not be the easiest sometimes, but it’s a great job! Love it. 😉
We used to fly the American Eagle Embraer 135 from Corpus Christi Tx to Dallas. Loved the short flight experience. Felt like you were in a hot rod.
I completely LOVE Munich airport - clean, efficient, bright and welcoming. Transiting there (even from Intl to Dom flights) is about the simplest I've ever experienced.
thanks for understanding crew's lifestyle.
That was fun! One of my buddies is an A-330 captain. He flew me and my family from HNL to NYC. He went to the hotel, I went home, and then we reconvened for dinner and an opera at the Met. I was beyond exhausted, but he was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed! I don’t know how they do it.
Great to see a different 'take' on travel. What I'd like next is a series devoted to the real heroes - the aircraft. What they accomplish in one week etc
Yes! Would love to follow one aircraft, to see it's trips and city pairs. Loved this video Jeb.
Thanks for the Sahwarma tip for the Munich Airport :)
This is a great video/idea!
i never got an alert for this one, glad i did not miss it!! Thank You.
Great video, Jeb!
I don’t have to click on the bell on RUclips because I do watch all my RUclips videos each day instead of watching tv... reports like yours are more interesting than 99% shown on tv.
Thank you for sharing your video with us.
Been tired in Munich. It sucks when they don't let you check in to your hotel. Great video!
Great video Jeb! Thanks for posting and an insightful experience indeed.
I use to do day trips to Europe and South America when I worked for twa and panam .. I worked in route planning and spent many weekends abroad in my 20s
As much as I enjoy your videos, the premier feature is pissing me off. Sorry 😕
Definitely understand your frustration. I do my best to publish weekly and, when I do, the videos go live at 9:00 Eastern on Saturdays (RUclips seems to reward consistency). I enjoy "Premiering" them because, by using that feature, I can chat with viewers. In short, whether they "Premier" or not, the videos will go live at the same time: 9:00 a.m. Eastern on Saturdays. Thanks for watching!
i dont know what the problem here is
Awesome video!
9:55 anyone’s audio cut out
Yes mine did
Yes mine did
Yes mine did
Jeb - next time you go to Munich stop into Meertz watches. It is truly a candy store of awesomeness!
Great stuff as always Jeb. If you did this for a living ( as in Pilots and Cabin crew) you would learn how to adjust pretty quickly but of course each destination is different. As someone who works "weird" hours myself I find if you keep to a strict regime when it comes to when to sleep and when to wake up helps !! A lot of course depends on which direction you are flying etc etc and what time you land as well...and when your next departure is et al !! Fantastic insight ( all bit a short one ) into what the crew go through !! Thanks mate !!
Sounds like fun 🛩👍
24 hour layovers are the worst for sleep schedules. Cool video
There are few things that make me happier than sitting down and watching a Jeb Brooks RUclips video
This video made me have a dream about going to Munich. I was on the same flights you were on. I’ve been to Munich before as a child and remember that soccer stadium! Loved the video as always!
Thank ya for posting on my birthday and made it just that much better
Willkommen zu einer weiteren Episode, in der mich die Quarantäne heute geführt hat
Wow this is gonna be great
You might say I liked this video 'a little bit'. Thanks for this unique perspective, Jeb!
I enjoyed this video more than "a little bit," well done as always Jeb. Hope you enjoyed Munchen!
Great video! You should do the 2-2-3 air traffic controller schedule
Nice video Jeb
Great video....I’ve got a few friends who are crew and it’s amazing how they adjust to different time zones. Funnily enough I’ve just spent around 12 hours in Munich too, great city.
Good job as always. So you were on the Gendeck. Cool! Glad you liked it! Be safe and god bless!
United used to operate the 777 on a redeye from SFO-ORD that left about 23:55 hrs, not anymore. That police car in Munich looks like a taxi. lol.
Love your videos!!
Love this one Jeb! Just like delta one you never fail to disappoint. But I have to say hopefully we get to meet our creative director one day! This episode chalked it up like we were going to this time 🤔
Really cool video! Liking the vlog style as well. Keep it up 💪
thats so cool!!!; can you try to fly copa airlines from panama to quito ecuador business class? :) i would love to see that!
I used to be crew based in London and used to stay on UK time. As soon as I landed somewhere I would have a shower and go for a run and it worked perfectly for the jet lag! Definitely hard on the body going across different time zones.
I paused the video and quizzed myself about what plane that was. I wasn't entirely confident it was the -400!. That is a cool big airplane, but it is so unremarkable looking!
I really liked seeing you "ungroomed" and the vlog portion of your video. It felt less scripted and more authentic, not saying your other stuff isn't real though. Anyhow, keep making videos for all of us, you and your creative director do a great job! I have a much smaller channel the is about traveling in a wheelchair and staying positive.
They train their body clocks because they are on a regular scheduling of flights including days off.
Jeff, but thats not now, it's winter there and here.... lots of green trees and people dress confortable. Wish I could do those things again.
Thanks
jb
Jeb, did you know that Air Canada now flies the brand new Airbus A220-300? It has a 2-3 configuration just like Delta's Airbus A220-100.
wow ....great video .....when will we get to see your better half?
I loved the video! About 30 years ago I did A trip from PDX to MUC via ORD and FRA. This was done over a period of 4 days! It did wear me down and I vow never to do that again! I do not know how flight crews do it!
7:46 I do these trips all the time for fun and this has never happened to me thankfully, my first one was to BRU for “24 hours”
Excellent work Jeb, appreciate all airline staff, and a thank you and a smile goes along way. Ps marry that girl.
I usually enjoy all your videos, but this one is by far the best video!
Wow! Thanks so much! It was fun to try something different!
Your commentary is most welcome
I know I’ve mentioned this to you before Jeb but the Boeing 767 you flew in is actually a 767-400ER, Boeing never made a standard version of the 767-400….. 🇺🇸🥂👍
Also I love the video concept!
I can’t wait to try a similar behind the scenes experience someday…
Remember the good times that feel like years ago but was only a few months ago
Absolutely!! Crazy how time works...
Blinkist is like Cliff Notes.
what an interesting seat config....not sure about the privacy though.
Oh wow I'm acc early for once fifth, can't wait
Ben Mortell cool, and go Packers
Hey! I got to travel on AAs 757 and 767 in Business class the other day. I have a video that I posted for the 757, but I’m still working on the 767 one! Can’t wait to watch this video!! Thanks
I used to be EWR based doing those flights. I prefer domestic flying and staying close to my natural “body clock”. If I went to bed as early as you did in MUC, I would be awake after a few hours.
Hooray for the creative director of this channel! Woo hoo!
Jeb, I thought you'd be in with the pilots due to one of the pics you use to promo this eposide! Now THAT would be super awesome! (Still love your channel though ... as many people here have already said ... I want to be like YOU when I grow up! :D)
You think that schedule is rough. You should try the Midnight shift line mechanic schedule
That long nap during the flight there is what messed your sleep schedule up. ;)
4:00
Haha my favorite part!
I enjoy seeing all your videos
6:41 the fact that the guy waved
It's a lot easier to maintain the schedule if you fly only inside the states.
Jeb appreciate you enduring this schedule to bring us this vlog! Always wondered how the crew does it. Can you interview them during flight? Maybe little bit? Lol
Hopefully my friend will agree to get on camera sometime soon!! As always, thanks for watching Jo!
Welcome back to NYC Jeb
Heading to Salzburg and Munich in April. Looking forward to my time there.
I really enjoyed this video! It was different from what I usually see here and it was fun to watch. Did you get to go through crew customs with the others? Love the videos, keep it up!
That was pretty cool 👍
Blinkist: digital CliffsNotes.
Please fly me to the Moon.
Hahahaha
From a dear pilot friend of mine. They have to eat something totally different then what the passengers have!! Just incase of food contamination aka food poisoning! So yea pilots eat different meals not associated with what passengers eat
Liked the vlog style vid!
