Never forget MJ did this for others. He cared that much and got next to zero recognition for his efforts with this. All he got was even more media bashing around this time.

Not only that, but he was supposed to give back jewelry he and Elizabeth Taylor have worn the night before at his 30th anniversary show in Madison square garden IN one of the twin towers AT THE TIME the first tower crashed but he gladly overslept!

Michael got the inspiration for this song, after meeting the president of SA Nelson Mandela, in the late 90's. The initial inspired version was to be performed at concert and become a charity single for the refugees of the Kosovo war, which ended in 1999; However, this never happen. Following the 9/11 attacks, Michael reworked on the song and recorded this version with other artists. Some of the big artists included (There're more), were - Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, Reba McEntire, Usher, Nick Carter ( From the BSB), Justin Timberlake & Nsync, Beyonce, Maya, Luther Vandross, Brian McKnight, Santana and a member of B2M Shawn Stockman.
The song was supposed to be released as a charity single in support of the 9/11 survivors, but again, it failed to happen. WMCIG finally debuted in 2002 on a radio station (without permission), and was available to the public in 2003 via digital downloads for a few days. The music video premiered at the 2003 Radio Music Awards. This is partial information, the full story is in Wikipedia and is quite interesting!

That whistle was definitely Mariah. The video you're seeing is a shorter version of the actual song. The creater tried to blend in both the long version of the song to this video, so her whistle was on Celine's part. But yeah, that's Mariah
Michael wrote it for charity. He originally wrote it in the 90s but re-worked it after 9/11/2001. The Kid at 1:13, his name is Billy Gilman. There was a Spanish version called "Todo Para Ti."

I gotta agree, I like this song a lot more than We Are The World. I think a big part of it for me (besides the fact that *NSYNC is on the hook) is that I grew up on these artists, so there are more recognizable names for me here, at least at the time the song was released, than there were on We Are The World.
I actually think there are three versions of this song, with a different assortment of artists. There's a version where Usher is featured a little more, and then a Spanish-language version.
