Billie Jean live from his 35 Anniversary was crazy!! No effects, just him and the dance floor. My friend choreographed this with him. The "lean" was actually a trick with the shoes and a clip in the floor. Was actually them leaning. They did it on tour too.
Michael was one of the biggest perfectionists in the industry. Everything had to be absolutely pefect, from the dancing in the video, the backing singers, the music timings
Again... he just never disappoints. Not once have I listened a Michael jackson song and felt let down in a way lol and that’s something I can’t say for many artists.
The one thing that has always amazed me the most about MJ is that he is one of the few people that can make elite dancers look like amateurs in ALL of his videos. The dude was unreal. Look at some of his Jackson 5 stuff, he was always a damn thunderbolt on the stage.
Greatest video ever. Also MJ has done his famous lean move live many times in the 90s. No wires. Also fun fact: Robert DeNiro was on the set to see the filming of this short film
@@shays.3104 you are correct for this video they used strings, but in order to do it live, he invented those shoes - but do know, these shoes are only there to help pin your heels down, the works is yours, you have got to have an incredible core muscles to be able to pull it off correctly without causing any damage - because in this movement, you are lowering yourself by 45 degrees and then you have to pull yourself back up again - VERY, VERY difficult and somewhat dangerous - because one wrong move and it can injure you badly
Yuli Erdreich yup that’s Michael for you. He’s a perfectionist so he was going to do it regardless. He just perfected his craft and voilà! We have another iconic move🙃
"Took the mic like James Brown..." exactly. JB was one of the artists MJ watched as a child. The part where it got dark and everyone was moaning was like people in mourning over Annie.
Smooth Criminal, and Thriller are the best music videos of ALL TIME! The child prodigy... Michael Jackson..... perfectionist, dancing so great it's from another world, his stage presence, his production skills are perfection! He was and will always be the greatest entertainer in history, and I don't think we'll see anything even close to Michael ever again. That's why the world was so heart broken when he passed away, we knew what he meant to us. I was there when the Thriller video debuted on TV, I was there to watch every song/video raise him to his ultimate stardom, and label him as The Kind Of Pop. I feel very blessed to have gotten to watch these things in real time as they happened. Soundtrack to my childhood, teenage years, young adulthood, etc. I'm so glad we had him when we did. Music wouldn't be the same without him. RIP Michael, good Lord are you missed! ❤️🙏
FINALLY! you finally posted that masterpiece. This music video is beyond words, Michael's dance moves are iconic and this will be forever one of the most EPIC video ever. I share with you two quotes from michael that are very inspiring to me: "i don't sing if I don't mean it" and "thinking is the biggest mistake a dancer could make. You have to feel." Again Jack thank you so much for ALL. Thank you for making me smile every day. I can't thank you enough for that, really.
🥰🖤 Michael!!!!🖤🥰 he was my first love at the tender age of 6! Had the thriller jacket, shoes, socks, and famous glove that he wore in Billie Jean. Rest easy Michael. And may we be the change he always said the world needed all this time.
"The Lean" is iconic. He had specific mat and shoes he wore from it. It is by far the hardest, most difficult move I've ever tried. Need all kinds of strength.
I wasn't born when this video came out, but I can remember my older brother telling me, that when this video premiered the ENTIRE world stopped to watch it. It was a world event!
Michael's dancing is and always will be timeless! The way he hits every move is completely flawless! He mastered his crafts in every aspect. This video is my favorite for his dance moves!!! Thanks for the great reaction!
This is his masterpiece, fun fact he wanted to do it like a western but then he changed his mind and come with the idea of underground Chicago ambiance. In the video he and the dancers are wired but on live concerts he got patent special shoes just for that song. This video is part of his movie Moonwalker.
MJ was just the king! Was born in the early 90s but grew up listening to this songs as if they came out yesterday then I realized they were older than me! That is the type of influence MJ had and he has never came to my country but every single person knows who Michael Jackson is! Just the king! Love from Africa
Also this video was heavily inspired a by Fred Astaire movie. Michael's outfit was very much similar to Fred in that same movie. So Mike was paying homage. Plus, the crop pants at the ankles he wore throughout his performances was also inspired by Fred Astaire. This draws the onlookers to notice the foot work even more. One thing I like about MJ he was clearly inspired by others before him but he layed that as the foundation and build from it and created and innovated his own path.
This for me is one of the best choreographed, danced and directed videos of all time. From the 1st time I ever saw it until today... flawless. MJ is the best!
Belive me , even if he had special shoes invented by him to make the 45° lean, he still had the strength to lean down and back up (NOBADY CAN DO THAT BUT HIM🔥) .. You can see that especially in live performances of this SONG.. PLEASE REACT TO ONE LIVE 🙏
Michaels' dancing was hugely inspired by Fred Astaire who was popular leading man in movie musicals in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, known for his elegant, effortless and smooth dancing style. The outfit he wears in this video is a direct reference to one of Freds' Movies(I believe the movie was The Band Wagon).
For me as well. I lived through this in realtime but it's truly refreshing to see Jack's first reaction to this. He had a good 'ole time with this, lol. I love it!!
He's totally not given credit believe it or not as a dancer and singer. And his dancing is very technical and so is his singing. He doesn't just gyrate or throw himself around for no reason when dancing, there's always a purpose and a feeling to his dancing; intricacies from his feet to his hands to his head. The best. Simple.
I can't believe I am older that Micheal Jackson. When Smooth Criminal was released in 1988. I am 40 years old now!.. wow time fly by... in 1988 I was 8 years old when it was released..
I loved your reaction to MJ. He was perfection personified in all things musical. His body flowed like water and reflected the music. You mentioned the quality of the other dancers, thank you. MJ was a perfectionist and always worked with the very best musicians and dancers. I always thought it would be the best and the worst jobs to be a backup dancer for him. The best because if he chose you it was because you were the best and the worst because being onstage with him all eyes were glued to Michael. You couldn't take your eyes off him. And the leaning thing was an invention of his. Magnets under the stage floor and special shoes. All the dancers had them too. They carefully position themselves before leaning.
This vid was choreographed by Jeffrey Daniels, formerly of the trio group Shalamar, who’s hits you may want to check out. What many don’t know is that Jeffrey credited with teaching Michael a dance called, The Backslide’, which Michael got permission to call Moon Walk.
welcome to Smooth Criminal, the most iconic video of all time after Thriller, and at the peak of it all. The 'lean' is the most famous dance illusion. He patented the magnet shoes and performed it live since 1992.
Back in the day when his music videos would premier they would stop Network TV to show it during primetime all over the world. that's why his music videos were so long it was an event.
Michael got a lot if his dance inspiration from old Hollywood movies...This is the greatest music video ever made! Michael at the top of his game...no wires, specifically made shoes by MJ himself to do the lean along with his other dancers. ..my fav MJ video..so Broadway Musical worthy!!People actually tried to see if they could create a Smooth Criminal Musical starring Michael on Broadway, but he said no because he just didn't want to do the same old thing night after night in a play. Never, ever gets old..MJ FOREVER!!!!💜💜💜💜👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💐💐💐💐💐
The video is part of a film , Moonwalker . Most influencial dancer of all time . So i guess you will do the Super Bowl for the annversary ? I think the Motown 25 performance that propulsed him as the King Of Pop that night , would be more fit for anniversary , the whole live performance with his brothers was ICONIC !
9:15 There was no “string” on his back, it was revealed years later that _the lean_ trick was pulled off by having the shoes affixed to the floor, even with that it still takes some practice and skill to pull it off but that’s how they did it.
Michael designed shoes to assist with The Lean . Posts came up out of the floor and inserted into the heels of his shoes. No one else copied him because he got a patent on the design. His ankles still had to be incredibly strong even with the special shoes.
My fav MJ vid of all time - and I grew up when this shit came out, we were tryna copy these moves in the schoolyard at lunch every day. It's got a 1920's speakeasy vibe combined w 80s pop rock. No strings attached indeed.
Fun Fact: he has a movie based off this song called “Moonwalker” ….. one of my absolute favorite movies. I’m a huge MJ fan. I’m an 80’s baby, MJ was our HERO!! I can’t tell you how many times I watched this video and that movie!
I was a young kid when this came out. There was an arcade 3 blocks from my house.Street Fighter was all the rave. There would be LINES of kids waiting for their chance to play. One day, my cousin ran into the arcade and screamed "A NEW MICHAEL JACKSON VIDEO'S ABOUT TO COME ON MTV!!" And kid you not, everybody ran out of the arcade, and went home to watch. That's how huge Michael Jackson was back then.In those days, MTV would always wait until the end of the show to premier new Michael Jackson vids.My cousin knew the pattern, so he sprinted 3 blocks to give us a heads up.We sprinted 3 blocks to make it back in time lol.As you just witnessed, it was worth the stampede. This video blew minds back then!
I love that we got to watch you see MJ do “the lean” for the first time. I remember watching this video on Much Music when it first came out and just thinking that he was absolute magic..

Michael Jackson videos used to have specific release dates on TV that would get announced and people would actively wait for them like movies. Some people used to get together as families and watch the premier together on TV.
Yes Michael and the dancers really bent that forward with special shoes that Michael created with 2 other inventors. There was a slot in the heel that engaged with a peg which could be raised and protruded through the stage floor when activated. Michael is just a pure genius.
I spent my youth trying to pretend I didn't like Michael Jackson because I was all about metal. But it was a lie. Dude's sound was magic and the laws of physics did not apply to him. And I'm glad people are experiencing his music and his art even now.
This continues from and into the rest of the music movie for his Bad album called, "Moonwalker!" This song, "Smooth Criminal" was every kids song, the moment this song came on, we went wild. The part where he leans forward was something we kept trying to do year in year out thinking "How did he do that?" lol Michael was a genius. All his songs are timeless.

Ohh man, "This Time Around." One of many underappreciated and largely overlooked tracks from HIStory! And a personal MJ favorite.
Michael Jackson was like _the king_ of music videos. I believe he had the most expensive music video ever.
Scream
Michael actually had a U.S. Patent for the shoes he wore in this video. The shoes are what allowed him to be able to lean forward like that.
Jack Reacts Actually this is incorrect. He used strings in the video but those special shoes in live performances for the lean.
Mj was the ultimate perfectionist

@JoG2 I agree, audio of wanna be startin somethin first. And definitely the full version of the Bad video, and definitely the video for Billie Jean
@@JackReacts904 You can also react to MJ performing Billie Jean at the Motown 25th Anniversary celebration. Here are some highlights:
- outstanding LIVE PERFORMANCE
- 1st time performing Moonwalk
- fantastic and hyped up crowd witnessing greatness
You forget how brilliant this man was
This was from the "Moonwalker" movie, i remember i even had the Moonwalker game on Sega Genesis as a kid, lol.
Michael Jackson videos used to have specific release dates on TV that would get announced and people would actively wait for them like movies. Some people used to get together as families and watch the premier together on TV.
You so need to React to the song Why by 3T featuring Michael Jackson! The song is amazing
Michael Jackson will forever be in a class of his own ! His moves were always on point and crisp !!!! The GOAT ...
Best entertainer of all time. That face you make though when you’re enjoying it. Lol
Yes Michael and the dancers really bent that forward with special shoes that Michael created with 2 other inventors. There was a slot in the heel that engaged with a peg which could be raised and protruded through the stage floor when activated. Michael is just a pure genius.
I smile so much when people react to MJ videos for the first time ❤️
Michael killing it with the dance moves, this is how music videos should be 👏👏👏
omg yes !!! I WAS WAITING FOREVER FOR THIS 😭
Me too
With MJ, no dull moments. 👍
So excited for this one!!😍
I spent my youth trying to pretend I didn't like Michael Jackson because I was all about metal. But it was a lie. Dude's sound was magic and the laws of physics did not apply to him.
And I'm glad people are experiencing his music and his art even now.
IVE NEVER SCREAMED LOUDER WHEN I SAW THIS NOTIFICATION JSJEKEJEJWKEKS
I've never seen such perfection in a video
This continues from and into the rest of the music movie for his Bad album called, "Moonwalker!" This song, "Smooth Criminal" was every kids song, the moment this song came on, we went wild. The part where he leans forward was something we kept trying to do year in year out thinking "How did he do that?" lol Michael was a genius. All his songs are timeless.
