I live in NYC so I honestly do see most of these trends everyday. I do think where you live matters for how much people take risks or try out fashion trends

Totally agree. I live in a midsized city in Germany and most people wear functional clothes (although wearing Salomon sneakers now is kind of trending too😅). But in the next bigger city only 20min from me, you would see most trends within 5 minutes. I'm not sure, but I think it's to do with demographics. My city is mostly workers and families. Young people move away for studying and work. Even the younger people working in my city usually commute. Also, stores adapt. If you'd go to Zara or H&M here, you'll find mostly basics. More trendy pieces aren't even on offer

I live in a smaller city/suburb in the south east of the Netherlands, quite far away from the influence of Amsterdam, and people don´t really dress with trends in mind. Skinny jeans and chunky sneakers are still a go to for example. I love the fact that I´m not bombarded with trends in real life all the time. Imagine everyone dressing in the same Goelia or Sézane pieces.. 😴

I see so many people with piles of bag charms in Melbourne CBD - especially among university students. It’s such a common trend here. Wide leg jeans too. I only see skinny jeans when I visit the suburbs

Yeah, I see people in skinny jeans, but I REALLY notice them, because there are so few. So it really catches the eye. I haven't worn skinny jeans fora long time now myself. Especially them REALLY skinny jeans which were like legging.

Great video Jamie. Yeah I think it probably depends a lot on what city. I live in Montana , USA so we are slow to adopt trends here mostly Patagonia outdoor gear kind of outfits. Even though I don’t live in a large metropolitan area I still like to dress up and dress my style regardless of where I live. I think the only one of those trends I have seen is the wide leg or baggy pants. I myself don’t wear red much but I did buy myself a beautiful vintage garnet red Bottega Veneta bag that I like to bring out when I feel like a pop of color. I like the length of your hair 😊. I

My wardrobe has a lot of feminine silhouettes in not-classic colours (fuchsia, yellow, cobalt, etc). I seem to get loads of compliments for being willing to be noticed. Perhaps it’s because people tend to blend in, fashion-wise, in their daily lives. Interesting!

Such an interesting topic! I live in Singapore and the climate dictates a lot as does profession. Overall, it’s a LOT more casual than other places I’ve lived and I think that’s just down to the heat and humidity. Having said that, I see office workers in fitted dresses, pencil skirts and heels etc and wonder how they do it! Floaty dresses, shorts, chunks and t’shirts make up most of what I see!

I wondered about that. We have a lot of Nike KIllshot2. Which is kind of the Nike that probably looks like the Samba the most. Of course everyone still wears the AF1. But I see the Cortez or the Killsot more then ever in the past, especially on trendy people. Still, I think most people do Start to at least wear different jeans, or every three years or so get a new coat....just because things wear out, and we all have both skinny and wide leg jeans. Or at least I do. I dopnt throw mine out. I didnt throw my lower rise one out either. Ill eventually wear them again.

Such good insights as per usual! I always find it unusual when something more classic or timeless is considered 'a trend' like the pinstripes or ballet flats - in my mind they never go anywhere, we just notice them more when they get highlighted by the trend cycle.

I think the reason why a lot of people my age aren't going for the wide leg trend is that they're not really size/body shape inclusive, and that they're not comfortable for the winter (if it rains, you're doomed, and they don't go well with boots).

Great topic, heres things I see every single day in my state
    Graphic tees
    Puffer jackets
    Sweat pants
    Thongs/flip flops
    Jeans (straight, baggy, cropped)
    Denim skirts
    Polos
    Active wear
    Unbranded and branded sneakers/joggers
    Pointed toe flats
    Pencil skirts
    Drop hem frill dresses
And more, I've not seen one long length coat, trench coat or anything a else a youtuber wears, most people wear I live don't wear everything neutral white or cream, monochromatic black and white I do see especially with office workers but most people in my state wear colour, you'd stick out like a sore thumb if you wore all neutral, so it seems to me that youtubers lives and fashion is not transferring to reality, well especially in south east QLD

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  Месяц назад +1

Absolutely and where you live plays a HUGE role! Exactly what I was saying about how it's where you are etc. Like I see a lot of neutrals, cream, all black, long coats etc but then I'm in a metro city, lots of office workers - but then if I go to other areas (like Newtown), the way people are dressing is completely different and that's just in one city. A very interesting topic to chat about, that's for sure :D

I'm all about a brooch, especially in the summer. I add a few to the pocket of my denim chore jacket for a casual look, but I'll also add on or two to a smarter jacket too.
Sneakers - yes, Sambas, as yet - no.
Wide leg trousers are my go to atm, I do go through phases, so I haven't decluttered my more slim leg versions, as they will come back around.
I've always loved a statement sock - this isn't a trend for me. I don't wear them with sandals or skirts/ shorts though. The same with scarves, I'm wearing them in my hair in the summer.
As for red, it's my favourite pop of colour, however I've been disappointed about what's been available in the shops this summer, but there does seem to be coming a little more for AW24/25

I do wear colored tight in my neutral and basic colors, like khaki, tan, navy, gray, burgundy, etc., to match a skirt or dress and my boots. I think they look better than black with everything, especially with light-colored outfits, which I love. But, I wouldn’t wear just tights in colors that didn’t match the colors of the outfit. I would never wear a bright color like red, lime green, etc.

The only social media I use is YT. Not even Pinterest, certainly not TikTok. So, if a trend is just worn by teens and college students, I’ll probably never notice it at all, like the bag charms one - new to me. I’m 64 and want more sophisticated looks. I love a straight-leg trouser, the wide ones just aren’t as flattering, and the hems are a nuisance. I’m only 5’4” and every pair of wide-legs has to be shortened by 4 to 8 inches, the cost is adding up (I shorten most myself, but not silk ones, I don’t have the patience). They always get caught between my shoe and my foot when wearing sandals, it drives me nuts. I do wear some wide-leg ones, but usually for winter when I wear closed-heeled footwear, like boots. I just got a pair of wool wide-leg trousers that were 2 inches too long. I ran them through a rinse cycle, then through my dryer (checking the length every five minutes). They’re now the perfect length and look great. It’s risky with wool, but I know apparel and fabrics very well and am always tweaking things like this and don’t have as many flops as one might think.

It’s always interesting for me to notice how people differ. I am 6 years older than you and 5’3 tall but love anything with wide legs - but more for the summer than winter. I find tighter styles keep me warmer, whilst wide jeans and trousers let in some air!

I just hate wearing the poly/Spandex gym wear or sweats everyone else wears here in California. Great for them, not for me.
