    starting to look for design jobs and freelance work. you don't know how much I thank you.
    being legally blind and a digital artist is hard yet fun enough. but I'm nervous about job hunting.
    this relieves a lot of stress.
    my portfolio should speak for me in interviews- not my disability- I wish some employers saw it that way

      You have to position yourself to not feel like a risk. The sad truth is the job market probably won't accept you. In your situation I'd build a freelance business and get a partner or outsourcing vendors to help.

    I am having an issue, when I place the photo like you are at 6:11 it gets places on all of the interior pages just like you explained that the text does. How is your photo not repeating on all pages, and how can I get mine to not repeat as well?

      Awesome! Yeah, I'm interested in watching anything InDesign related. I would be interested in seeing a sort of compare/contrast segment about when to use InDesign vs Illustrator. I understand that InDesign is the clear choice for page layouts, etc. but I always default to Illustrator because I am much more comfortable with it. Essentially I am just trying to get more exposure to InDesign, so any tutorials are helpful. Thanks for your response.

    That was awesome! I was wondering though, what would you find to be the most important thing to know about InDesign? What kind of requests do you get from clients when it comes to page layouts?

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake  9 лет назад +1

      Mostly print production. in terms of layout usually business cards and brochures. Knowing how to properly prepare and preflight your files is the most important thing.

    • @briannau4128

    If i Set the margins to a quater of an inch does that mean when it prints it will not print on that part or the paper?
    The reason i am asking is because i am going to be punching holes on the left hand side of my page to put them into my portfolio? i am not using sleeves. therfore would the left hand margin need to be an inch?
    if this makes any sence

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake  8 лет назад

      +ProunoundGaming It means that if you only design within those margins then things won't print outside of them if they don't exist there. So in your case you may want to use a half inch to an inch.

  • @ankiking

    How would you add page numbers? I'm new to InDesign and still find it very confusing. Will these pages be folded in the middle or where are you picturing the edge of the portfolio? Or do you print out single pages?

    • @RobertoBlake

      Brigida Sanchez I think what you are looking for is a spread, 2 pages side by side? you need to select the "Facing Pages" option when you create a new document or adjust it document preferences once your document is created.

I going to be watching you more, I attend Full Sail for Graphics design right now and this will help in graphic principles I thanks again!

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake  9 лет назад +1

      jessica D. I recommend use the highest lbs. of cardstock or premium photo paper you can. I prefer to use a Matte finish rather than glossy. the Higher the lbs. of stock the better it absorbs the ink and displays the colors.

    • @BenjaminCerbai
      @BenjaminCerbai 9 лет назад

      Ghouse666 Hey ! Maybe it is a "by default" setting ? I'm not sure but it could be because InDesign reduce performance by default to save memory and don't lag.

    I'm having trouble with displaying things in high quality. No matter what I do, things look jagged. At first I thought the dimensions of my pieces were the problem, since they are around 1000x1200px. But I even tried a full res, 3000x4000px, and it's still jagged. Played with the zoom as well, which has no effect. I've been following along, and everything else in the tutorial has worked perfectly.

    I am in the process of designing an online architectural PDF portfolio that cannot exceed 20 MB of space. There will be about 15 pages totaled but I wanted to know if the program your using, InDesign, is capable of compressing files like this smaller. The content of the work is nothing too graphic nor detailed. The pages would be more simplistic then what you provided in the video.

    • @RobertoBlake

    Hi Roberto, I'm just wondering. I'm in the process of creating an Architecture Portfolio, to highlight some of the work I've done at university. Could I essentially create a layout in photoshop, using all the abilities and capabilities of PhotoShop image manipulation and then export that layout as a jpeg into my InDesign layout?

    • @RobertoBlake
      @RobertoBlake  9 лет назад

      +Paul Gasparro You could, but you're ultimately not better served doing that. InDesign is fairly simple compared to Photoshop and is suited to layout work. Eventually I will do a quick Getting Started video much like did for Premiere and Illustrator.

    I have never used Indesign before, so this is all a learning experience for me. But i have a question, in my Indesign, the pages are represented in pairs, how do i change it to the single pages. So just to clarify, when i add a new page to the document, its creates one on the left and then when i add another page, instead of going under the previous page, its goes right beside it, like a book. Can you help me to correct this?

    Hi Roberto! Is it possible for you to share tips on a responsive web design or UI design portfolio? I've often had people comment that they do find the presentation impressive (screens presented within Apple devices) however the actual screen content isn't too clear.

    • @RobertoBlake

      +Espeon Dex my advice is to do both. I'd say present on an Apple device for the interactive component or impressive optics. For context and clarity present companion print presentations.

    Hi Roberto
    Want to know if some day you will do videos like this again.
    Also ... a lot of Designers in the world fight for Ai or PS and sometime both but, there is another great software out there called inDesign which is getting more mature release after release and has a lot of tools and functionality that worth the look (some say it has twice more tools and functionality than Ai and PS combined but just need to learn them) also ID creates very good PDF quality from what i've seen and give satisfaction when it comes about printing directly.
    Would you please tell us about this from your perspective?

      The vertical bar key. Should be right next to or above the enter key. Hold shift and backslash, and that should do it.
