  • The One World Observatory officially opens Friday next week. Cool tech attractions include elevators that boast a virtual time-lapse of the New York City skyline and interactive tools that help visitors explore and learn about the city. Anthony Mason gets a behind-the-scenes look at the experience.

      A close knock off of the original. It’s lower, enclosed and doesn’t offer as many amenities. It’s better than nothing I guess.

      @@BarberJ95 Indeed, I wasn't alive in the 90s or early 2000s but man the original trade centers look outstanding and like no other building, it's a shame they didn't rebuild them (of course, with better technology and structure)

      Linda D The timed ticketing system works very well...there's really no waiting at all, as long as you buy in advance and show up at your time. The pre-show is simply stunning....

    We were there last June and this video is just the way it was but even more special to see it it first hand. The elevator ride was especially special. I would love to see this again. The views was spectacular but I was glad to get back down to ground level. This is very humbling.

    It was a truly amazing tour. I haven't been back to NY since I moved in 2004. I look forward to taking this tour. It will be a sad one, but needs to be taken.

    It angers me that they didnt REBUILD THE ORIGINALS, if you wanted to rub it in saying "we rebuilt it" why wouldnt you build the originals again, they were cooler, and more iconic.

    We (my husband and myself) took the tour and elevator in July 2016. There is a nice resturant at top. It is a beautiful memorial!

    I don’t see how anybody can look over NY from that position and height and not be constantly reminded of people jumping to their deaths. I’d have no desire whatsoever to visit the observation deck because I know I’d just feel a) very sad, and b) a little scared.

    This is truely awesome, what an amazing view! That new building you can see in Midtown, that tall, skinny building to the east of the Empire State Building is huge, technically that building is the tallest building in the USA from street height to rooftop (the One WTC is the tallest if you count the huge antenna atop of the building).
    I always wanted to go visit the Twin Towers as a child, I never got to see them. I will have to get down and check out the One WTC when I get a chance!

    3:41 "Unfortunately there is no outdoor space at the observatory. Checketts said that the building's design wouldn't allow for it."
    They knew that leapers' bodies would slide down the sloping exterior walls of this new "wedge" design instead of landing on an intermediate roof of a standard tower design. So they couldn't allow people on the outside.

    1. There is no access to the actual roof. It's only indoor.
    2. The 9/11 memorials are actually the literal exact locations of the original 1 WTC and 2 WTC

      @@exoticcar5482 I agree, the twins should have been rebuilt just for the "heck of it" ; plus, with keeping the outside appearance, i am sure engineering methods of today could have been applied to make them stronger towers and correct some other engineering issues.
      One more thing: the twins were known all over the world and were of a wonderful design.
      I miss them, too bad they did decide to build an other tower instead.

      @@W-733_KWX Right. The reason there is no roof access is due to the transmitter on the roof. With the twin towers the transmitter was on one of the towers allowing the other tower to have outdoor roof access.

    There’s absolutely no way my anxiety would allow me inside the World Trade Center and there’s 0% chance I’d be in a elevator hanging by a cable 100+ stories up.

    Having images burned in my mind of one woman standing in a gaping wound, another close laying on her stomach, to survive so high up to that point & to have the floor drop from under her feet, I couldn't do it. To have the same view? To feel such devastation? I can't control it be it 20 years prior or over 100 years where Native Americans were kept imprisoned in St Augustine.
    The veil between the Spirit realm and this realm is thinner than most know.

    Congratulation to the organizers of this magnificent vistas of NY and great use of technical systems. I remember watching the sunset from the roof of the original tower. I have to do it again. Just added to my bucket list.

    Even if the media shows how cool this One World Trade Center is, it is not for me... the Twin Towers should have been rebuild, better and stronger. The memorials are beautiful, but the One World Trade Center and the other towers do not fit in the financial district of New York.

    I guess I don't understand why they have to 'blow away the visitor with audio visual to build up the experience'. Whatever happened to leaving a person with their own thoughts and impressions and taking in the experience in their own way for what it is? Why do you need 'special effects' to 'enhance' a view that tall in that place? I remember going to las vegas in 1990 and loving it - just a few short years later, went back, and every place you walked into had giant video screen and surround sound BLOWING YOU AWAY as you walked in. Absolutely hated it and never went back

      +Pat D -- Price is dictated by the Law of Supply & Demand. If few people visit, the price would go down. If lots of people visit, the price would go up. Kinda like the price of gasoline, cellphones and pizzas.

    Rebuilding FOUR of the original WTC buildings (sans asbestos), right away, rather than going to war with people who did not attack. It would have been cheaper and faster than the Iraq War.

    Wow, that is really impressive. I like how they have the memory area (and of course the footprints of the twin towers), but they have built the new tower as a new beginning and looking to the future. It's like they accept that 9/11 was horrific, but they're not wallowing in it. Life goes on.
    It really is beautiful. And, that is some fast elevator.

    its very pretty there I hope to get to visit it one day in my life time...I think 911 day was so sad I was in jail on that sad day I couldn't get out cause of it..had to wait til the next day but I lived I guess...lol.....but yes its very good work they've done there, love that elevator.... wish all those people didn't die that horrible day though...god be with us all !!!!

    It would be interesting to see a panel showing all of the radiofrequency/microwave radiation emitting from towers and buildings in NYC now. It would give an idea of the conditions we are actually living in.

    The streets look below from the World Trade Center and foreign visitors came at the One World Trade Center. A lot of the visitors came from China to see the One World Trade Center tower in Lower Manhattan.
