Yes it’s finally happened - Damian has managed to decide which performance exhaust he is putting on the Porsche 718 Spyder - and today you’re coming along for the ride.
It’s been a long journey, and with lots of help from CarGuys fans, the chosen exhaust is the JCR titanium silenced race exhaust, costing £4.495 + VAT.
What’s involved in fitting a new exhaust? Will it really transform the sound enough to justify that price tag? Does TheCarGuys’ 718 Spyder now make the sort of noise that befits a 50s Porsche RSK? All these questions and more will be answered in this week’s episode.
    Thank you for watching

I agree with Damian: on a sports car, sound is as important as handling. And the difference before and after is night and day. Pricey, but how could you not do this? Very well shown with the 'old' and 'new' shots: it now sounds like a Porsche; the old one sounded like an 80 year old farting in a bath.

Hello Roger, The Car Guys said the sound is "fine" when I asked dies it still meet new EU sound regs (legal) I'd need to cofirm this before fitting one to my Cayman. Like does it affect Warenty/Insurance (no doubt as it cost lots more) Emissions/db output.
I doubt it would be worth the costs & Hastle for a better sound on a Base 718. I Love mine & it Pops in Miami Blue. All the best Steve.

I like the new sound. Not sure it’s a game changing improvement (well, not £5k’s worth anyway) but it does allow us to hear more of this engine’s character and personality, unstrangled. Personally, I think I like the sound of the previous Boxster Spyder’s exhaust a bit better but the new car is of course much better overall. Hope you enjoy it and please let us see how it beds in and the colour changes 👍

When you are ‘a car guy’ Investing in the pleasure one derives from a machine is never money wasted. Every time I see this car it increases my hankering for an 05-06 987 Boxster. But a bigger house beckons the £££. 😞
Nice review too, I like the honesty about the price and value.

That is awesome Damian, congrats on finding something that you are happy with!
From what I hear about other high end aftermarket exhaust systems costing, you got lucky by at least 50%!
Can't wait to here the new air intake too.

You never really get a true experience of the sound via a video, but I bet it sounds fantastic live and in the flesh...

Love the new exhaust but have to roll my eyes a bit on the price ... even in Titanium seems about double fair market. But still she does sing sweetly at high revs so the improvement is real and you actually got what you paid for . Cheers!

£5k ? Not VFM for me but (and this is important) an honest opinion from a guy who has a bit of dosh in the mattress. This is why we like The Car Guys: no BS and no snobbery. I think it sounds lovely, matches the look of the car. Another great choice.

The Stock HP and Torque has been shown to be more than this back box setup. The suspected reason being that with this, after cat and part filter restriction, flow is further restricted by convoluted albeit straight through piping. In the stock arrangement the huge mixing muffler offers the negative pressure to de-restrict the choked flow upstream. So if you also want more performance AND sound, go with the headers as well.

I didn’t want more performance and I wanted to keep the warranty intact

Excellent vid!! This test reminds me of the Nick Murray test between a 991.2 C4S with and without the sports exhaust option.. in this case (for me personally) the standard set up sounds better at lower speeds than the modified set up (more base).. probably down to the Mic. I could be completely wrong of course..
