I was taught by a consultant forester how to do this years ago when finding tracts of timber. Had to come here and refresh my memory. Your instructions are awesome. Thank you.
Some really good information in this.
I'm a surveyor and mostly skeptical about some of these "find your pins" videos here, but this one is useful and informative. Just want to point out, though, that this seems like a best-case scenario. All corners are marked, and it's a small, flat, wide open lot.
You also would want to verify these points prior to building up to them or constructing a fence based on them. You need to check the distances to the neighbors' far corners also. And also need to check deeds to see if any parcels have been sold out of this lot in the past. The description sometimes remains the same even after parts have been sold out. And no new monuments may have been set marking the new corners.
Thanks! Good to know 😁
I drew plats like that for 45 years. She does simplify the process, making it understandable to civilians. All most people know about surveying is the occasional guy they see looking through a transit, or just staring off into space waiting for his crew, a lot more to it.
That was entertaining. Bear in mind using a compass in the City is a dicey proposition and often directions on Survey maps are not necessarily relative to true north due to a number of reasons. Common practice was the Surveyor would use a record bearing on a given line such as a section line then reference all the bearings on the Plat of the town to that one line. So directions can vary.
Outstanding! *LOVED* your presentation ... no unnecessary 'blah, blah, blah' ... straight and to the point and totally enjoyable. Small hint; basic algebra could help get drawing to scale.
I'm so glad you liked it :) thx!
Perfectly presented and practical! Not only showed the survey and contents but then went out and did exactly what many viewers are intending to do... walk the property line to find it for themselves. A comprehensive approach and illustration as to what needs to be done. Really great job, straightforward and enjoyable as well.
Thank you so much!!! 💓
Thank you a million, studying for my LARE exam and have been pulling my hair out trying to understand basics of how you're supposed to read bearings aside from the distance of the property line
So glad this helped!! Good luck on your exam!!
Thanks so much for making this video. I was racking my brain as to why my Garmin was showing gps coordinates that had no relevance to what I thought were gps coordinates on my survey. Now I know thanks to you!! You made it very easy to understand!
Glad to be a help!!
I aced geometry and trig so I technically didn’t need the intro, but it was very comforting to hear it so elegantly and clearly explained. 10/10 lovey lady! :)
Well done. I've watched more than a few of these "DIY" survey videos and just shake my head. You've got a good handle on it. Thanks for using the legal and plat, and not the GIS and property app nonsense.
I love the dual senses of precise measurement and common sense. "Here's the iron. Looks like we were aboht a foot off." Next point. "We're about a foot off. Must be because we were a foot off where we started." Next point. "Here's the iron, about a foot off from where we started." Each point validates the others, and a little common sense gives a reasonable explanation for any error. Excellent technique.
You go girl! Great job, extremely helpful and useful information. This is exactly the video I was looking for! You nailed it!
Awesome! That's what I was hoping for 😁😁😊😺♥️
Thank you!!!!♥️♥️
Thanks so much for this. Trying to find my property line with a plot plan from the county, a rolling lawn ruler, and a military compass. This video was a great help! P.S. She is lovely and with beautiful skin.
Excellent instructions. The best video I have seen so far! You saved us so much money! This is greatly appreciated as it gives excellent insights on reading these maps and knowing what I need to bring with me when I walk my very weedy200’ by roughly 900’ property in Hawaii to find pins😃🌈🤙
Awesome!!! So glad it helped!!
Just wanted to thank you for doing this one. I looked all over to find this info and yours was the only one I found. tks again
I love your video. The information you provided are very educational. At least, you have demystified for me the bunch of numbers, notations and signs on a land title, survey map and similar documents. Now, I have an idea what those numbers mean and have an idea approximately how big the property is and not just rely on the say so of another person especially on the metes and bounds.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks. I watched like 6 videos of surveyors trying to understand those numbers. But you informed me. Thanks.
Thanks for this. I was trying to get the gist on m 20 acres and thanks to this video, I discovered an "S" in my legal description where there should be an "N". All the plat maps for the area assume it is an N and when you make it an "N", all numbers add up. But looks like I'm gonna need to get that fixed.
Awesome Video…This information is so important and your presentation is easy to understand. Now I want to obtain my survey so I can locate my property lines!
Awesome thx!
This was SOOOO helpful! I was struggling to find boundaries on my 10.5 acre parcel. Now I'm excited to go back and try from again :) Thank you.
Awesome! You can do it!!!
@@AdrienneLovesOldHouses I forgot to ask.... Is there a compass or other type of app you recommend using to do this? I feel like I should be looking for a certain feature, but I can't find an app that I feel good about using yet. Thanks!
I just downloaded a random one. I got a new phone recently and haven't downloaded it again so I don't remember which one I used. I didn't need to be that specific because I had landmarks to go by. Try some out and if you need to be very specific you may need a surveryor.
@@hillaryrindlisbacher3623 I can't find any that does degrees,min,sec
love that you explained the minutes and seconds thank you.
You're welcome!!!
Thank you! Very informative, I understand it clearly now, I was looking at my survey map trying to figure it out and I never would have without a good explanation.:) A metal detector really helps to find them metal stakes, and I must also mention how lovely you are.
An observations (from somebody who has worked in a survey office for 30+ years) - that starting point you were looking for was a lead plug set in the curb. Also, get a copy of the legal plan, don't rely on topographic plans for boundary dimensions. That's not what they are for.
Honestly wasnt sure what to expect, but it was Great! Better than some so-called experts. Side note, curious what your "thought bubbles" say on your Fox Hunting picture in the background. 😂
Haha!!!! The girls are saying,
Look the dogs are so excited!
Our outfits match the horses!
Yeah, nobody else even tried!!

STOP! I THINK YOUR VIDEO IS THE REASON WE CAN NOW HAVE A POOL! ( long story lol)
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! SOOOO HELPFUL
I'd love to hear that story!
Very nice job. I have done this type of work for many years. You are way smarter than the average cookie.
Thanks! 😊
Very easily explained. Thank you! I learned something very helpful today.
Smart Girl! Well done.
You helped me SOOO MUCH!!! Thank you! I love your approach and how you explain things and not talk down to others like they are stupid! Much appreciated!!! God Bless! I’ll be checking out ur channel more ;)👍🥰🙏
Thank you very informative
Great job!!! Love this . I’m attempting to find all 4 of mine 🤦♀️🤷♀️
Loved learning how to read and understand the survey map & directions. Great info to know! Hated that I had to struggle to hear your voice over the 'way too loud music' that was drowning out your very important detailed explanation.
Very educational, thank you
You are very welcome! I'm glad to be helpful!
Thank you for the clear explanation of the S ## ## ## E!
great info!! i learned way more than i thought thanks!!
So glad to hear!!
Good video and great you folks got out there in the field to work the data.
💥💥 Wow.. you are extremely intelligent with this subject matter. And this was quite pleasing to watch too. Well done. 🌟💎
Thank you 😊 💓
they want $1400 just to mark the corners of our 1.8ac lmao. Nah. not today. Thanks so much, you just saved us a buttload of money!
Thank you!!!!!!!
Good job
Made it fun
Have you taken the magnetic delineation into consideration? The magnetic pole line changed after so many years. My property lines showed a magnetic line shifted by 15° in 120 years.
I truly enjoy these videos that make it seem land surveying is a DIY project. 🙄 😀
IMHO you should have to show a land surveyor’s license to buy flagging/ribbon. Nicely done except for the la-la-la-la’s.
No video I looked at until now explained how to read those directional numbers. Now I just need to figure out my staring point! Where's my metal detector! (My survey has two iron markers listed) thank you!
You're welcome! So glad it helped! Good luck!
This was really awesome!! Now how do I get those instructions for my property?
What to do, when a previous surveyor, miss placed a metal rod, marking a lot’s corner?
God she is GORGEOUS!
Thank you!
cool...great voice
Nice work firecracker!
Thanks!
You’re awesome
Great video and explanation 👍🏽
Video I don’t think I ever got the descriptions I have a survey was I supposed to get the descriptions with the survey , is that on my tittle or is it suppose be with survey Ill have to check my title And paperwork
Good job ladies. Question. Do you base your measurements off of the geographic north (true north) or magnetic north? Magnetic north moves over time and would seem to me not reliable. Setting new survey markers I believe you would use true north. Anyone know for sure?
Great question...but that is above my pay grade lol!! I'm just looking for the markers and I look in a 5' radius if I can't find them.
I think for most neighborhoods, it doesn't matter so much but maybe an actual surveyor can answer this for you :)
In Michigan, The surveyor's drawing is required to show the basis of the bearing for the survey. Can be True North, Geodetic North, Magnetic North or based on a previously recorded subdivision or highway. Many are based on an assumed bearing kind of close to North.
I'm going to say neither. The bearings shown are always referenced somehow to a "basis of bearings" that may be the centerline of "Wilshire Avenue" in this video. I've had underlying maps off by degrees from one to the next so you start with a magnetic or true north and go 1000' feet and you're way off. Best to stick to the local information. This survey is based on the centerline of one of the two streets, so take Wilshire as being S70....E and use that to find your "North" if you wish... and I bet it matches neither true or magnetic.
Really helpful!
North, la,la, laaa...west. Lol!! Thank you though, quite informative.👍
Thanks for appreciating my personality! 😊
That was very informative, but good lord, turn the annoying music down that plays throughout 🙏🏼
If your property is out in the middle of nowhere you will need intersection of coordinates to find your points.
So how do you find the beginning point if it's rural land?
You may not find it. You might have to find points further down the line, or find a point from a nearby property that shows your beginning point and establish it or find it that way.
This is good info.. Time to go outside
Good vid gotta do my homework now to go out n try n find it... what state are u in ?
Came here for the survey, stayed for the Lalalas
The real question is…are you gonna take back your property that’s turned into an alley by putting up a fence or something or you’re cool with losing a little bit of dirt and not make waves in the neighborhood?
Good question! Once I finish the rehab I'll make a parking area right by the alley that will make it clear where the boundary lies. But mostly, I'm keeping the shrub growth cut back along the left wall boundaries to keep people not driving in my yard.
What does (F) (R) mean?
good info, music is too loud and distracting
Can you tell me what this means. LL296 LT33 DB 1170-550*( I know it's lot line 296 lot 33 but I don't know what the rest means.
I'm betting that means Deed Book 1170, page 550. Sometimes when the description hasn't changed, they will not write it out in your deed, and they will just tell you where to find where the original description was recorded. So if you go to your local Register of Deeds office and search for Deed Book 1170, Page 550 you should find a back deed of your property with the full description with all the metes and bounds. Most Register of Deeds offices now have online deed searches so start there. Good Luck!
Does this work for row homes?...lol...If your property is so huge that the lines of your property are difficult to construe; HIRE A SURVEYOR...General Contractor for decades...
Interesting stuff!
Thanks!😊
Is it true that most surveyors use inexact measurements for distance because of a method called 'pacing' [relying on footsteps]?
I have no clue!! Back in the day they used chains and poles. Literally a standard length of chain or a pole that they would lay down and count the lengths to get the distance.
Use pacing to get a rough location of where I need to be or need to look for something. Even in the 1800's, as long as they weren't drunk or didn't care, they measured distances to set permanent markers. The only thing different now in setting markers is the method of measurement.
The music makes it hard to understand and you went a smidge fast. But I still understood just wish it was quieter, could you upload b4 music any way? great job tho still thank you
Sorry about that. Some like the music, some don't. Can't please them all. You can change the playback speed in your youtube settings to slow it down if you like. Or rewind and watch again. Thanks for the comment!
Informative, but Cut the music it's distracting
I was wondering how long it would be before you would come out of that fur dead animal coat 🤔
I love how you were in a fur coat :) You've got style for a blue collar chick!
Ha! You know it!!!! 😍
That's really cool, I learned a lot - - BUT - - That "MUSIC" does not help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Music is way too loud!!
Aww, I like it!!
I have no idea what you are talking about. Had me lost at the get go.
You gotta go down to your local Register of Deeds office. Ask for a copy of your deed. In that deed will be a description of your land. (It is sometimes called Schedule A.) This is what I'm talking about. You need this description to start walking your property lines.
The music is distracting.
Please turn off the music.
Your music is too loud!
turn down the music
No. I like it.
stop the music
Nope, can't deal with distracting music.
Massively annoying music. Bailing!
she is a old lady trying to act cool
So smart girl, appreciate you. BTW are you married? Just kidding lol
Turn off that stupid music so I can hear her.
That music is awesome and is the key to understanding surveys
This was horrible to watch
Mission accomplished.
Thank you very helpful 😊
