    This was the BEST EXPLAINED VIDEO!! I’ve looked at so many and just couldn’t understand what in the world they were talking about ! It’s like they expect you to follow along so quickly but I loved the way you broke everything down and included the amounts of acres and all that it really made so much sense thank you so much!

    The sections were numbered that way so that no two sections with the same number would touch each other. Also the townships on each side know section numbers would be the same next to each other. That is why they are numbered in that manner

    I live in New England and i envy folks whose land is surveyed and defined w the Jeffersonian system. My property is "beginning at a point adjacent to the Smith farm, formerly Johnson, then proceeding generally south west along a rock wall 231 feet and some inches to a steel pipe set in a boulder, then crossing a wood road 12 feet 8 inches to the east to a rock..."

    of sections, but when it starts to have quarters of quarters of quarters of NE or whatever, I get lost.

      I worked for a land surveyor as a CAD Tech for several years. The best thing to do is find a picture of a section or a quarter section on the web to breakdown how to understand a property description. Getting a picture with a definition makes all the difference in the world. When I was new at it, took a little practice but it's really not that difficult.

    Michael, I’m new to surveying, I haven’t taken any math courses in well over 20 years. Do you have any pointers, advice or words of encouragement for someone in their early 40’s who’s wanting to get into the field. I’m totally green and I’m unsure of what to expect. Are there any areas that I should be exceedingly strong in? Any advice helps.

      Almost done with a bachelor's in surveying. Trigonometry is big in surveying and brushing up on algebra for manipulating equations would be helpful too. I think if you end up loving surveying like a lot of people do you'll be shocked that the math comes a lot easier when you work it in a surveying scenario than other ways you may have used it in the past. Good luck

    I'm about a 1/4 mile from what I'm told is a survey corner Intersection, I have bare property and the county WON'T give me a physical address, the neighbors on my north & south side have a address but the numbers are far apart, I'm told the 911 address are determined somehow in FEET from the corner intersecting point, is there a WAY to find out my actual 911 address in case I need to call 911 while doing work alone on the property? The county emphatically WON'T give me a 911 address

    good information. But calling Thomas Jefferson a communist and a monster is a bit much. Not only is the communist label wildly incorrect and flat out wrong, but even the monster label is coming at it out of context. Everyone agrees slavery is wrong and inexcusable, but labels like 'monster' are probably best saved for people like Stalin, Hitler, Guevara, Tito, Hussein. Applying 'Monster' to Jefferson trivializes what real monsters are. I'm not a fan of Jefferson, but empirically was no communist. Even avowed communists do not assert that Jefferson was a communist. They can cherry pick some traits or comments that are similar to communist theory, but he was never a communist of any sort. Clearly, you know your stuff about PLSS which I found really helpful. But the 'monster' and 'communist' labels are extremely wrong. Nonetheless. Thank you for this explanation.

    The sections within a township are numbered in an unconventional, Boustrophedon pattern, in which alternating rows are numbered in opposite directions, starting from section 1 in the northeast corner and ending with section 36 in the southeast corner. Therefore, section 13 is adjacent to the eastern range line of the designated township. Numbering in this pattern ensures that numerically sequential sections within the same township are physically adjacent and share colinear boundaries.

    Mr. Pesses, just teach the material, please don't include your personal opinions of people during instruction. It negates all the good from your presentation. When talking to geographers about California's physical features do you also tell them about how horrible the state of California was to Chinese immigrants during the railroad and gold rush years, and how they treated the immigrants like slaves. I bet you don't include that, do you?

    • @FinetalPies
      @FinetalPies Год назад

      It doesn't sound too bad to include those things. Like I can understand why that teaching style might not work for you, but including some personal opinions or tangential storytelling can help people stay engaged and remember things.
