1. Yes, bcz if you invest in one bank FD or RD, in case of failure, you will get maximum of 5 lakhs. Post office will declare as failure only when indian government failed.

Instead of investing in gold, it's better to buy a flat, you could have seen biggest fall in real estate by around 55% to 60% in Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad in last two years, however Mumbai and Pune posted 5% growth, it's all because they prefer asset valuation and growth, they never prefer buying gold, two wheeler and four wheeler, that's why Mumbai is one of the costliest cities in the world.
TN, Kerala, Andhra and Telengana people are interested to invest in Gold , that's wrong view.
I would say that you can buy a 2BHK flat in city limits of Chennai and a car with only 12 lakhs of rupees with good returns.
Flat is joke and flat is not investable. For Land, the price needs to raise instantly or else thats also a problem. Land have problems to sell easily unlike gold.
I dont sugest you to invest in gold but in big companies like TCS or some big companies.
