I work at a Peet's Coffee and we use an aeropress to taste test coffees. One of my favorite methods to brew coffee. It works really well with Latin American coffees with fruity and citrusy undertones.
Shine N. Hatfield We only buy Peete's coffee! I had to stop drinking caffeine so i tried your product and it's the only brand that doesn't usually have an off, weak flavor. It's strong and delicious. 8) (P.s. the decaf house blend batch roasted on 5/7/17 was perfection!)
I love my Aeropress! In the summer, I press over ice! I find the inverted method to be best, and instead of pressing too much, I use the inventor's method of crossing my arms and letting the pressure of that weight to push down! I always wet the "basket" so the filter stays in place, too. I think it's the easiest and best way to make coffee, and it removes the acidity from coffee.
Crystolla Marolla - it was in a video with the Aeropress inventor, which I can't find anywhere now! Saved me from being a too tired goof and having things slip, too!
Easily my favourite coffee gadget. I've tried pourovers, moka pots, and french presses. With the Aeropress I consistently get a decently strong, decently smooth cup of coffee. You can also buy metal filters to use in place of the paper filters. Probably a bit better for the environment though you do get a little bit more sediment from them.
Fray Joker: Easily solved if you sieve your grounds before you add them to the Aeropress. Choose a mesh size that matches your metal filter's pore size and you'll never have fines in your brew again. Some people do like the "mouth feel" of that coffee sludge, though. To each their own.
I blame my weight loss on my air fryer... and I'm not complaining. Anything I like deep fried I can air fry it with half the calories and trans fats plus grease. I just absolutely love my air fryer 😘
I just started watching, and I like you already. Your voice is calm, and your review is thorough. Lots of other review channels have lots of noise, yelling, and all these 'extra' things that take away from the review.
how about this coffee pot? www.amazon.com/Medelco-Cup-Glass-Stovetop-Percolator/dp/B000V5VCPG/ref=lp_289746_1_9?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1500079930&sr=1-9
Do the maths carefully on a pod machine, you may find any savings on the machine are negated by cost of buying coffee in pod form. I have had reasonable luck buying secondhand machines on ebay.
Laurel D you can buy a stove top espresso maker in the grocery store for about $20 - well you can in Miami. The. You can buy ground espresso at various price points with Cuban coffee being the cheapest.
Late comment...recently got an Aeropress and just now watched her totally entertaining video. Many comments seem to bash the device as it doesn't make REAL espresso. Emmy never said it's espresso and used the term "espresso-like" or "espresso-style" several times. She loves espresso and was looking an alternative device to satisfy this love as things like the mokka pot didn't do it for her...an espresso machine was too big for her small kitchen and in her words "so stink'n expensive." "Real" or not, whatever ticks your boxes is all that really matters. As she stated, "That is pretty stink'n good...far better than anything I've ever tried before in terms of the mokka pot..." and others. I agree it's not true espresso, but you know what...I totally love the faux espresso that comes out of my Aeropress. I grind my beans to almost espresso (little finer than table salt). I use 2 wet filters, 1 in the filter basket and 1 on top of the grounds so the pour doesn't disturb the grounds. Tamp firmly with a good fitting spice bottle, pour, wait 30 seconds, then plunge hard as I can. What I get is an "espresso-like" beverage that is complex, well-balanced, and just as satisfying and more ENJOYABLE (for me) as the real stuff from Star$$ (I used to order quads)...my coffee-loving daughter concurs. I like taking tiny sips of water in between sips (a la bourbon w/waterback). And what is all this obsession with creating crema...with or without, if the outcome is good, it's good. One RUclipsr (Coffee Lovers TV) commented that crema doesn't inherently add anything beneficial to the cup, certainly not tastewise. Espresso can taste perfectly excellent with no crema.
I love my Aeropress. I've had one for over 8 years. I'd never go back to the French Press I used to use. Coffee type, ground size, water temperature and pressure exerted make an enormous difference to the amount of crema you get. I tend to use the inverted method as this means you don't get the under-extracted liquid loss before the plunger is inserted and stops damage to the filter paper when stirring. Also, pour some water over the filter first before screwing to the Aeropress to remove any residual paper taste.
Thanks for the review. I have been using the Aeropress for a couple years now. Try using the upside down process. I think it makes a better cup of coffee. The collar that fits in the top also shields the sides from hot water that produces fine cracks after a while if you don't use it. Personally I use the upside down method (directions are in the pamphlet and online). I use three scoops of finely ground coffee and fill the water in almost to the top and slowly mix for one minute. I put in a filter and wet it a little so it doesn't fall out of the screw in holder (since it is now the last thing facing up). I carefully invert it over my cup and press slowly (about 15 to 20 seconds). You can also get a creama finish if it is done correctly. I usually steam separately my half/half to get the desired froth and add. There is also a metal filter you can get online.
Emmy, I don't even drink coffee, heck I wouldn't dare try half the stuff you do but I just love watching your videos. I look forward to your peppy personality and amusing reactions to what you try. Thank you for your videos and all that you do to make your fans days better ^_^
megantran19 I read poetic as pathetic and I was thinking how rude you were. Ha ha. I love her descriptions as well. I always watch until the very very end to see the silly things she does.
Hi Emmy! I love my aeropress, use it daily and I also take it backpacking. if you want to make a really strong cup, I recommend filling it up with the hot water, placing the plunger in and then pulling back slightly. this will pull the liquid into the chamber and kinda hold it in place to steel longer! For a big full glass of coffee I usually let it steep for ~2 mins!
I use the aeropress for all my coffee at home. I'm the only one that drinks coffee here, and I didn't want to buy a 'coffee for one' maker that would take up a lot of counter space. I absolutely love it! Makes delicious smooth coffee, better than any drip machine i've tried :)
Im 18 and from doing a barista course in college we were told that the creme comes from, water pressure, water temperature and how old / fresh the coffee beans are, the fresher the beans the better the creme will be, as beans get older they loose their natural oils which creates the creme 😊
Ahhh Emmy! I hope you get to read this, little bit Teal Deer but there is a better method for making coffee with this press. The Aeropress is without a doubt my FAVOURITE passive coffee maker, I have tried many different beans - both cheap and artisan roasts - and to my taste it gives the smoothest, most filtered and flavoursome coffee I've ever tasted. The best trick I picked up with it is "upside-down" brewing with it. Basically, seat the plunger into the Aeropress an inch, and stand it up on the top of the plunger. Scoop in the coffee grinds, add water, stir, rest for 20 seconds, stir once more and then screw the filter on and up-end the Aeropress onto the top of your jar or cup to begin pressing the plunger down. It helps to pre-wet the paper filter as well before screwing it in to place. This methods allows you to control how much the coffee brews in the water a lot better, without losing water through the filter while it's sitting on your cup.
You should try using the inverted method with the Aeropress! It's more convenient (for me) and it's great for consistent results! Also, for anyone who's not a fan of sour notes, stop plunging the Aeropress when you hear the hissing sound because anything you plunge after that is overextraction. Not sure if anyone else mentioned it below, but thought I'd leave my two pennies here haha.
My name is Stephanie, and I admit it.... I am a coffee addict.I bought the Aeropress solely on this recommendation, and I have to say I was obsessed from cup one. I am a sucker for a good shot of espresso, and this little gadget gets the job done. It was really quick to set up, and super easy to use. I don't have the funds to make a 'real' espresso machine a part of my life, but this is honestly the next best thing! Thanks for the review, Emmy!
I'm in absolute love with my Aeropress, I've tried espresso (add filter on top of coffee as well to make the pressure higher), reverse brew (put the plunger in and brew it upside down) and a bunch of different grinds and coffees. It's such a quick way of making coffee and it tastes amazing! Btw, the Aeropress fits inside the funnel so you can press the coffee into a container it otherwise wouldn't fit in, like high glasses and stuff
Thank you for reviewing this! I've tried so many gimmicky products (i.e. Keurig, Nespresso) for coffee and its become too expensive to keep up with. Regular coffee pot coffee is too weak. I've tried the Vietnamese metal filter method but it takes wayyy too long for the water to drip and sometimes the grinds fall through the filter. I've heard so many great things about the aeropress. So I'm definitely going to try this one out.
If you would put just a couple of granules of salt in the coffee grounds it makes the coffee taste so much better. I use a French press to make coffee and I allow the boiling water to steep with the coffee grounds for about 3 minutes and then I plunge and its the best coffee ever.
This is my favorite way to make coffee. Helpful hint: look up "inverted method" here on youtube. When making a larger amount of coffee, sometimes the water leaks out prematurely during the brew. Inverted method prevents this and also allows you to let it sit for 45 seconds if you like a stronger cup. I do get crema when I use mine this way. Love you, Emmy!(but, you know, not in the creepy way haha)
OMG! lol My husband and I JUST bought that grinder AND that Aeropress a couple of weeks before you posted this video. My cat had it with me and broke my French press, so we had to get new stuff and decided to throw in the grinder. That grinder is Awesome! My husband said it was probably the best & most affordable grinder.
Can you show the inverted method that all these people are commenting on? Does it make a real difference in take that you can tell? What type/brand of coffee beans did you use?
The crema won't really form because of the paper filter. I'd also recommend rinsing the paper filter in the basket with hot water to get rid of any weird paperiness, but aeropress does make excellent coffee! Glad you like it!
Bought one recently. Easy to use. Very forgiving for pre ground coffee. Good strong flavor without waste. Also I'm not into weighing and fidgeting for a cup in the morning.
It's one of our fav coffee makers. I think we've used them for about seven or so years, and replaced our French Press almost entirely. Simpler, easier to clean, and makes a consistent brew. It's also great for Vietnamese iced coffee, IMO.
Aeropress is how I make my coffee always. It's the best freshest tasting coffee I have ever had. And its easy to transport and take anywhere. I love this device.
Heard many things good about this device. I wonder if those filters are just those facial cleaning pads. With a more refined texture or if they feel like regular filters cut into rounds.
SChu1207- The aeropress increases the brightness and acidity. You get less bitterness with an aeropress. They're a faster method to brew because you're supposed to let the coffee, in a French press, sit for about 4 minutes before pressing it. With an aeropress, you can press it and drink it right away. Aeropresses typically hold less water, resulting, obviously, in a smaller cup. The aeropress wasn't actually an "espresso" gadget when it was first marketed. However, it uses a finer grind of coffee, resulting in a stronger coffee with a higher concentration of caffeine. That's because the water touches more of the grinds. Pro Tip! -Take a shot every Time I mentioned "aeropress".
That's a nice hiss. ;) I LOVE my aeropress. My local coffee place (appropriately named Local Coffee) grinds the beans specifically for the aeropress. It's also super easy to travel with! I would love to see you do a review of the American press! And maybe do a comparison of the French press, Aeropress, and the American press?
Can you try to cook that crazy looking omelet over rice with gravy on it? Omilece? I don't think that's the correct name but it looks crazy challenging and delicious! Right up your ally 👌🏻 I think
aakla I think she saw the buzzfeed video of the guy trying to make a specific type of omurice from a famous Japanese chef who happens to put gravy on his
The filters can be used in most any stove top moka pot excepting the tiny ones. Wet the filter and then stick onto the metal filter on the bottom of the top half of the pot. Moka pots also work better if you pre-heat the water in a kettle before pouring into the pot.
I have gone thru three of them. Nothing better for making coffee. I love it. And I drink a lot of coffee. You control everything. Use 185+ degrees water. I scoop of fine ground coffee.
LOVE my Aeropress. It works great for good home coffee, and isn't that difficult. I do the inverted method and use the metal filter with mine though for easy reuse and not having to use the paper filters.
I use an aeropress every day! It's so good. You can get a metal filter to save paper as well. I also find that it doesn't upset my stomach as much as espresso does because of the acidity.
Because you said the filters were expensive could you buy regular coffee filters and cut them to fit? You could cut so many from one pack of regular filters at a fraction of the cost of the others. I like the whole idea of the aero press if the filter cost could be lowered. Thanks for your fun videos. I’ve collected vintage kitchen gadgets since before they were vintage. Lol!!
the silly factor in your uploads .is what makes it great. I act like a kid too. lol I really don't like the critics that act super stuck up, and humor less. great upload as usual.
Emmy you can only get crema from espresso machine. Anything that might look like crema from this method would merely be foam. Another tip is to completely wet your filter first as otherwise it can taste papery. Experts also suggest stopping when you start to hear the hissing sound.
I'm a bit partial to my Keurig Rivo, but I've been tempted to get one of these. They also have a metal mesh filter as well. This would be great for camping!
I had an AeroPress coffee maker which made the best coffee I've ever had. But it took a lot of strength to extract the coffee into the cup. Incidentally, I used boiling water and it worked well. Delicious coffee!
My brother bought one of these to use when he was camping, but he loves it so much that he uses it every morning! He takes it everywhere he travels too. :-)
Hi emmy I don't know if this constitutes as a gadget, but would you be able to do a review on the snoopy snow cone machine. It brings back to many childhood memories. Thanks
aside from the grounds being held on the plunger side of things, this is nothing but a traditional italian plunger coffee maker. the only thing aeropress brings to the table is a lot of plastic and unneeded filters. if you want to look it up, for whatever reason, in the u.s. it's called a french press. emmy, i know this video's a few years old and you probably won't read this, but if you've done a coffee maker challenge i just haven't found it yet, i apologize. in event you haven't, i think it's time.
The Hario grinder is okay, but I like the compactness of my Porlex (squeezes nicely into my office cubicle shelf!), plus the reviews between them say that the Hario has a little too much play at coarser grind sizes unless you purchase a mod that corrects for that small flaw.
We have had our aeropress for 2 years now. We use it daily and absolutely love it. We still have the original packs of filters (we bought extras) and we've not run out. Thoroughly recommend this and if you like cuppacinos, then buy a $30 milk frothing machine :-)
Sometimes "because I wanted it" is all the justification you need to pay a little extra for a cute kitchen gadget.
I work at a Peet's Coffee and we use an aeropress to taste test coffees. One of my favorite methods to brew coffee. It works really well with Latin American coffees with fruity and citrusy undertones.

Shine, you all make great coffee for the Aeropress, every method i've used on the aeropress for it is consistent and great tasting!

I rinsed my filter before I press, that helps it too.
pezliz good hack about crossing the arms! I'm gonna definitely try that!!!
Inverted method is the best! love my Aeropress too!
pezliz what's the difference between coffee and espresso?
Crystolla Marolla - it was in a video with the Aeropress inventor, which I can't find anywhere now! Saved me from being a too tired goof and having things slip, too!

Mike Trieu honestly this is a good tip. cheers.
Can you test the air fryer?
Madilynn Baker lol i was about to write the same thing
Yes! My mom bought one on a whim and we have no idea what to do with it
Madilynn Baker air fryers are AWESOME!!!! I have one and it works wonders!! I don't miss greasy food at all!!
Madilynn Baker BEST THING I EVER BOUGHT. i have a nuwave brio and I use it all the time
I blame my weight loss on my air fryer... and I'm not complaining. Anything I like deep fried I can air fry it with half the calories and trans fats plus grease. I just absolutely love my air fryer 😘
I'm such an enabler. I bought this for my coffee addict boyfriend. It's really easy to use and makes quick good coffee.
I genuinely love how you narrate what you're doing. It's very, very considerate and you have a very soothing voice!
Love my aeropress! I use the “inverted method”
I do too. The ONLY way to go.
What is the inverted method?
@@JoelMcLaughlin you and @Matt Allen look alike
Maybe you could find this recipe interesting ruclips.net/video/qdY1rT8qnMw/видео.html
I’ve been using my Aeropress for about two years and love it. You can buy reusable metal filters to use with it as well.
Coffee tastes better, less acidic with paper filters
I just started watching, and I like you already. Your voice is calm, and your review is thorough. Lots of other review channels have lots of noise, yelling, and all these 'extra' things that take away from the review.
I've had my Aero-Press for a year and absolutely love it! makes a stellar cuppa!
Please make more vintage gadgets ily btw 😍
+Trung Nguyen I'll have to look for some more....

This solves all my problems! I am hopelessly in love with espresso, but can't afford an espresso machine. I'm adding this to my wish list!
I love espresso and am on a budget and I bought one of the off brand nespresso machines on amazon (and off brand pods too) and I LOVE it!
I will have to look into this as well then, thank you for the recommendation!
Do the maths carefully on a pod machine, you may find any savings on the machine are negated by cost of buying coffee in pod form. I have had reasonable luck buying secondhand machines on ebay.

Can you try to cook that crazy looking omelet over rice with gravy on it? Omilece? I don't think that's the correct name but it looks crazy challenging and delicious! Right up your ally 👌🏻 I think
Samantha Jo Omurice! Yes!! I would love to see her make it!
Samantha Jo you basically make a thin omelette and wrap it around a rice ball 😂🤷🏻♀️
Samantha Jo Loco Moco it's rice with a beef patty on the rice and an egg or 2 sunny side up on the beef patty with gravy slathered all over it.
aakla I think she saw the buzzfeed video of the guy trying to make a specific type of omurice from a famous Japanese chef who happens to put gravy on his
Dangerously Pink ahh OK cool my bad.
maybe you could take regular cheap filters and cut circles out of them, if the special filters are hard to find
Thank you for sharing. I just bought an Aeropress Go, can't wait to try it out, I'll do the 1.5 to 1.5 ratio too.
My husband loves his Aeropress! He's actually competing in an aeropress competition next month! ☺️
I use an aeropress every day! It's so good. You can get a metal filter to save paper as well. I also find that it doesn't upset my stomach as much as espresso does because of the acidity.
You are so adorable Emmy! Love your reactions and logic x thanks for the great videos!
A friend bought his and he uses the metal filter; no more buying paper ones. Works really well.
Have you tried pre-wetting the filter before use? I don't really have a reason, but I feel like it's something that would help.
If you like easy espresso then you should look into one of the off brand nespresso machines. I have one and I LOVE IT!
Lol!!
Where are my Coffee lovers at?! ☕️❣️

Here!
I've always wanted to try one, but haven't gotten around to it or was sure if I could use it - thanks for demoing, Emmy!
the silly factor in your uploads .is what makes it great.
Experts also suggest stopping when you start to hear the hissing sound.
best coffee maker ever. delicious coffee, easy to use, quick, portable, relatively environmentally friendly, and best of all, EASY TO CLEAN!!!
I'm a bit partial to my Keurig Rivo, but I've been tempted to get one of these. They also have a metal mesh filter as well. This would be great for camping!
The Aeropress is only thing we use to make coffee anymore! Love it!
You are my favorite RUclipsr and I have been watching you since you started
I had an AeroPress coffee maker which made the best coffee I've ever had. But it took a lot of strength to extract the coffee into the cup. Incidentally, I used boiling water and it worked well. Delicious coffee!
Emmy have you ever tried a bialetti stove top espresso maker?? Might be a fun comparison
I learned about rhe aeropress from the Black Rifle Coffed Company....now I have one and use BRCC coffed in it, awsome coffee!!!!
"Full bodied and assertive"...Perfection! Just what I need.
That's a great hiss!
I always thought it was gimmick-y but I'm really glad this worked; I might have to invest in one!
If you like it, try the inverted method! I use mine everyday.
We had this but recently switched to a French press. I liked to wet the basket before putting the filter in. Helped it to stay in place.
I love espresso! I have a $30 Mr coffee espresso maker that works very well. Highly recommend!
Thanks for testing it. I've been wondering if it works.
This is pretty awesome, it's missing the creama which is a pretty yummy part but I'd try it!
My brother bought one of these to use when he was camping, but he loves it so much that he uses it every morning! He takes it everywhere he travels too. :-)
I love love love that I don't have to turn my volume down to watch your videos
Emmy, love your videos!!! Great gadget!
I work at Bed Bath and Beyond and we sell these! I've heard so many good reviews on them
Do you know Italian Bialetti coffee makers ?
They're so cute and reeaally efficient. They come in various sizes, colors... I love them.
Emmy us the only youtuber whose videos I don't skip even a few seconds because I just don't want to miss out anything she says or does. 😆
+Natalia A 😘
I got one for when i travel it works great and yes i do the inverted method as well.
Great kitchen gadget. Thumbs up.
Where did you get it?? I want one!!!!
Hi emmy I don't know if this constitutes as a gadget, but would you be able to do a review on the snoopy snow cone machine. It brings back to many childhood memories. Thanks
I love my Aeropress. Had one for about 5 years, the best coffee maker for under $30.
you should test out one of those traditional stove top coffee makers. theyre great for espressos and cuban coffee.
hi Emmy, thanks for another nice review. Will you do a moka pot review? Will you do a blind comparison between aero press and a moka pot? thank you
aside from the grounds being held on the plunger side of things, this is nothing but a traditional italian plunger coffee maker. the only thing aeropress brings to the table is a lot of plastic and unneeded filters. if you want to look it up, for whatever reason, in the u.s. it's called a french press. emmy, i know this video's a few years old and you probably won't read this, but if you've done a coffee maker challenge i just haven't found it yet, i apologize. in event you haven't, i think it's time.
The Hario grinder is okay, but I like the compactness of my Porlex (squeezes nicely into my office cubicle shelf!), plus the reviews between them say that the Hario has a little too much play at coarser grind sizes unless you purchase a mod that corrects for that small flaw.
I don't even like coffee but ur vids r just so interesting!
We use this at work instead of a french press. Its so convenient i love it. Gonna grab one for home too
you should try a moka pot i discovered this a few weeks ago for expresso and love it.
We have had our aeropress for 2 years now. We use it daily and absolutely love it. We still have the original packs of filters (we bought extras) and we've not run out. Thoroughly recommend this and if you like cuppacinos, then buy a $30 milk frothing machine :-)
Nothing like an assertive cup of coffee. Sure beats those passive types. But keep an eye out for passive aggressive coffee. Sneaky...
#dryhumour
I was having a bad day but then you uploaded and made it much better!
+sarahCRPG Dawww....
Did you ever tryed a Bialeti coffee. My favorite ones
I love these "Does this really work" type video's ♡
I absolutely hate coffee, but I enjoy watching your videos Emmy 😊😊❤❤
If you don't want to buy filters for this thing, you can always just use regular coffee filters and cut out your own.
