Bryanne I think it's interesting because they created these gadgets to try to make cooking more convenient but I think they add unnecessary additional steps to cooking. It's funny to imagine people using these kitchen gadgets.
Most gadgets (both vintage and modern) are made for people with disabilities. But the developers need to make some amount of money so that the companies will agree to market them, so they sell them as general products for everyone. Even though there is really a particular audience market for it. The device above looks like it is for people who would be unable to actively beat eggs, whether from a disability or being older.
+Silverizael Having grown up in the 70s and 80s i'm not sure i agree about vintage gadgets at least. Back then the mood seemed to be that there was no process that couldn't be improved by some gadget or other, sandwich toasters were another one i recall that pretty much everyone bought, used twice then stuffed in the cupboard, never to be used again (mainly because between prep time and cleaning it was simpler to shove the sandwich under the grill). We were all so high on the idea of better living through technology to the point where we would buy just about anything that seemed futuristic!
The power of editing would allow her to pretend she didn't... I'm going to choose to believe she had to do that at least twice, and that there was an egg on the wall behind the camera. :^)
a trending theme amongst these older products is that they, well, work. must've been nice back then to buy some flimsy product from the supermarket and have it actually do what it says it'll do.
*oh, these gems were never available in a supermarket!, they were only available through an 800 number with ads run on television during the late late show ... "operators are standing by* "!!
I feel like this might be a good item for someone with arthritis who can't beat an egg with a fork, or someone with limited mobility or a broken arm. Beyond that, it seems a little cumbersome to use daily. Is there a way to clean the needle?
I remember when this thing was advertised on TV all the time- that’s how old I am. The ads ran late at night on those independent UHF channels that showed obscure old movies and reruns of unpopular sit-coms from the 50s and 60s. In other words, the ads were in the cheapest time slots on the cheapest stations. Anyhow, Emmy’s review is completely accurate: The thing does scramble eggs in the shell just fine, but ... why scramble eggs in the shell? I’ve seen some newer products that shake the egg in several directions, instead of piercing the shell with a rotating needle. I’ve also tried just holding a whole raw egg and shaking it really hard- the trick there is not to let go of the egg. That worked, too, for me. But I still can’t really think of a reason to scramble an egg without breaking the shell. Unless you just want to surprise people by serving them homogenized boiled eggs.
I have to say, more than anything, I love how completely unbiased you approach different gadgets or dishes (spaghetti jello mold with Vienna sausage comes to mind). It's easy to tell you allow your palette preferences to be set aside and really give anything you try a chance. Keep it up, you're a great lady, and a pleasure to watch. 😊
That foil thing seems like a way you'd cook eggs when you're camping. What if you just boil the eggs instead of baking them? I don't think the insides would come out to much through such a small hole. If you do boil them and they turn out decent, I think it would be interesting to try making these into Chinese marbled tea eggs. I'd like to see you try that in another video.
That sounds like a wonderful idea! There's no other reason I'd be interested in cooking an homogenous egg inside of its shell, really. Great suggestion, IMO!
I've boiled cracked eggs and some of the white does tend to come out. However, a small crack on the wider end (to make them easier to peel) like where the eggs are pierced, not so much, because it creates an air-pocket instead.
@@ShojoBakunyu Me too and I also have a dremel, I think I'm going to try piercing the egg with the tool that came with the steamer (a measuring "cup" with a needle underneath) and mix the egg with a bent paperclip inserted into the dremel.
"can you see my arm flab shaking?" omg hahaha xD I saw a video once where a dude wrapped an egg in a sock and kinda flailed it around and the egg mixed like that
I can honestly say I have no clue how I stumbled on this channel.... but now it is a part of my nightly routine and I am not disappointed. So wholesome and soothing helps me relax. Thanks Emmy!!
Definitely keep these gadget videos coming! I love the vintage stuff! I would love to see you do a Creepy Crawler (gummy making machine thing I think) video with your boys. 😜👏👏👏
There were so many kitchen gadgets back then. I was always fascinated by kitchen gadgets. Learned the hard way…literally! It’s always easier and much more successful to just do it the old fashioned, tried and true method! Thanks, Emmy. Love watching these! 😊
The fun in eating a hard boiled egg for me is eating the white and the yolk separately. With this contraption, it seems like you're eating a hard boiled omelet. Nope, not for me either.
It never occurs to me that I want to see these things until I go onto your channel, and suddenly some bizarre curiosity I didn't even know I had is indulged. And your humor is delightful :) Thank you for producing these videos, they certainly brighten my day!
Rae Higgins Yeah, she loved it. I would put it in her food and mix it up once she brought the egg back. Not all the time though. She would show up with decomposing cow heads from the cow farm beside us. She ate some nasty stuff.
If i remember right there was craze for decorating eggshells, you'd poke a hole in each end and blow the egg out, this gadget made it easier to get the eggs out using the blowing method because you didn't have to worry about the bulk of the yolk. Thanks for the blast from the past Emmy and hope you and your family have a great rest of the week.
I'm just so blessed to live an era where Emmy made exist. And trying out vintage items. I had a really bad day today. So thank you Emmy for this videos, and helping me focus on my work 😭😭 you're a hero.! ☃️ Advance Merry Christmas 🎄⛄🎄
I know I'm a few years late on this one, Emmy... but you should try this again but ALSO add your favorite scrambled eggs condiment, KETCHUP. (By injecting it into the already existing hole!)
I was 13 years old in 1977 and remember this item being advertised on TV during the Christmas shopping season. I never had one, but I did rig up something similar with a power drill. It worked like the TV version, but as Emmy says, it just isn't worth using in the end. Thanks for this wonderful trip down memory lane!
Ive been watching the whole gadget testing playlist, and it occured to me that a lot of these would be very useful for disabled people! Like the veggie choppers, or even this egg scrambler, are much less risky when your fine motor skills arent great. Being disabled myself I think if i liked scrambled eggs, i would get myself one of these!
70's appliances. I can practically smell the ozone from here. Also I would rather wash a bowl and fork than lug that thing out, clean the needle and put it away.
In the late '70s, the late Steve Goodman collaborated with Michael Peter Smith to write "Vegematic," a comic tribute to all the Ronco-esque appliances you could buy from late-movie-time TV ads. Your videos always make me so happy ! They're so relaxing to watch and you seem to have such a calm and happy personality. I love all your videos! I'm also glad you added that cute tune back to the end of your videos 😊
When I was a kid we had one of these and everyone in my family including myself loved it. Was very easy to use, quick, convenient. If you love eggs and you eat them almost every day or everyday, then the problem this is solving is the requirement to get out a bowl and fork everytime and scrambled two eggs together, it saves time & clean-up. The reason I found this video is cuz I'm looking to see if they still make this gadjet, lol! Thank you sharing this video.
My husband and I adore you! 😂❤️ your reviews are hilarious but some how also extremely in depth. We watch everything you post haha, your videos are the only thing we ever agree on watching 😂. You're awesome keep doing you ❤️
do you ever try to put a raw egg inside a sock/legging/stocking and twisting it like doing a skipping and pull each end so the egg will spin rapidly in the middle and repeated it so the egg will scramble inside without breaking the shell....
Wow, this brings back memories. When I was a child in the early 80's my dad took me to pick out a gift for my mom. For some reason I picked out an egg scrambler contraption very similar to this one. Yeah I think it got used once and then languished in a cabinet for the next 20 years.
Had to subscribe. I noticed myself watching these videos on autoplay every day now. Such strange recipes, awesome! Plus, she's very knowledgeable and I'm a cook myself.
If you are going to shake and egg to scramble it, you'll have to shake it like it owes you money. Don't ask me how I know this, it's ummmm, just a guy thing.
keith moore you actually can scramble the egg inside the yolk without puncturing it- you use pantyhose and tie a knot on either side of the egg, then spin the crap out of it. It takes much more work than just cracking and whisking it
I'm a bit late to the channel. I am enjoying the videos! Here's a crazy tip. If you use this "Gadget" at Easter, and poke holes in both ends, slightly enlarging the holes with a paperclip or pin, you can "Blow" out the egg and then dye them. I rolled up tiny messages ( fortune cookie size) and put them in the eggshell. My kids loved it.
FTR, this can be done by tapping holes in each end with a nail, scramble with a bent paperclip and blow like a balloon. Its not easy, but worth the effort.
Emmy, You are my hero. For years I have wondered if that contraption really worked. THANK YOU for this and now please pray that I will eventually own one. This looks super fun !! Thanks again -- YOU ROCK !!! -- AP
When Emmy started talking about the sweaty eggs and started shaking the eggs furiously... I couldn't stop laughing. I think my mind was partly in the gutter :)
Emmy I believe there is a way to mix the yolk and egg white without the needle device. You would basically put the egg in a sweater arm and tie around the egg so it can't go anywhere on both sides . Then you would grab both ends of the sweater ( around the forearm and near the armpit) and swing it kind of in a circle sort of like Revving a motorcycle. Then yank both sides to stop it from circling rather quickly. Then you just keep doing this for I think a minute or two and then do with your mixed egg what you will !
I need this is my life. My entire life has been spent wasting hard boiled egg yolks. Every Easter, I am triggered whenever i spend so much time boiling and coloring eggs. Waiting for the Easter bunny to hide them. Go find them. Eat them just to throw away that chalky chuck of boiled egg yolk chunk.
what about salmonella? how you see if the egg is perfect to eat if you don't break it? and if you put one bad egg in the machine and don't clean the skewer you will contaminate the next one. Maybe it's the reason why they stopped making this machines.
Maria Mivi salmonella is invisible (and on the outside of the egg)- you would not be able to tell if an egg is contaminated, but if it was going to be cooked it would not make a difference, since cooking the egg destroys any food borne illness. What you would not be able to see is if your egg is old and rotten (though if you keep your eggs long enough to worry about that, floating them in a bowl of water tells you if they're good or not-fresh eggs sink while bad eggs float). The machine could get bits of egg in it if you broke one while piercing it, which would smell if it wasn't cleaned extremely well...
Ah! LOL. I love seeing more and more of your personality and seein' ya come out of your shell. Not that you're even *in* your shell. It's just most times your vids are very focused on the task at hand. Taste a food/item, describe it, give your feedback, etc. Love seeing slightly sillier, more candid moments. I didn't even think that contraption was going to work as well as it did.
I don't know why, but I find these vintage kitchen gadget videos fascinating.
Bryanne Kitchen Me too. It's quite satisfying when these things actually work.
Bryanne I think it's interesting because they created these gadgets to try to make cooking more convenient but I think they add unnecessary additional steps to cooking. It's funny to imagine people using these kitchen gadgets.

...that and that they seem slightly unsafe. This one seems like it might run the needle into your hand if you tilted the egg too far?
I thought that too, I though she was worried about stabbing her finger rather then breaking the egg.

Yeah! i think it would help them a lot. good thinking!
I was thinking it's a good way to do your easter eggs! Since the yolks are a bit tricky to blow out. Just poke it a second time on the other side.
How would somebody with limited mobility pierce and scramble the egg?
How would somebody with arthritis can pierce the egg shell through that needle without cracking the entire thing??
LoserlyCool pressure versus repetitive motion of moving the wrist. I assume it'd be easier, but I don't have arthritis
I feel like over the years you have become so much more comfortable and confident in front of the camera, it is so nice to see!! We love you Emmy!!!

These are great for making custard where you need to beat eggs for a long time. I loved mine when I had one.
SupremeJudge i can see this device could have some applications where you need the egg beautifully smooth.
SupremeJudge Yeah I could see it good for getting the egg smoothly beat without a lot of air being beat into it.

from end to end yes. squeezing both sides, pretty easy.

We love being introduced to new gadgets! Thanks for creating great videos and sharing them :)
it so was sexy lmao
That music choice for a 70's gadget is 20/10.
what about salmonella? how you see if the egg is perfect to eat if you don't break it? and if you put one bad egg in the machine and don't clean the skewer you will contaminate the next one. Maybe it's the reason why they stopped making this machines.
Tatianna Townsend and that's why I say that maybe it was the reason to stopped making this machines. Don't you think so?
Maria Mivi salmonella is invisible (and on the outside of the egg)- you would not be able to tell if an egg is contaminated, but if it was going to be cooked it would not make a difference, since cooking the egg destroys any food borne illness. What you would not be able to see is if your egg is old and rotten (though if you keep your eggs long enough to worry about that, floating them in a bowl of water tells you if they're good or not-fresh eggs sink while bad eggs float). The machine could get bits of egg in it if you broke one while piercing it, which would smell if it wasn't cleaned extremely well...
I really love your videos!!!! Its nice to watch your fun and positive segments!!!!😊😊😊
You are more beautiful every video. What's your secret?
Ah!
+Changing Storms 😁
