Yeah, our parents speak vietnamese to us cause they don't want us to forget our mother tongue and our culture. I love it when I met Vietnamese who live in other countries for a long time but they do prefer speaking vietnamese, that's what make me feel warm.
One thing about Viet moms, when you can barely speak Vietnamese anymore and you pronounce a word wrong or say something totally off, they laugh their asses off and proceed to tell the WHOLE family and ALL of your aunts, uncles, and cousins about how bad your Vietnamese is....
+Maria Huynh Anyone else recognize the spelling of Vietnamese words in the video? There's no accent mark for "rice porridge" (cháo) so it's read as chao (fermented tofu) lol. I'm not a grammar Nazi; I've been trained to survive Vietnamese spelling quizzes.
not specific to Viet moms but when a Viet person is calling another, it is always the caller that says hello and not the person who is being called. in the US it is the reverse.
I can help but laugh so hard through out this video. I can soo relate. Vietnamese moms are the cutest! They complain so much and can be annoying but has the biggest heart and of gold when it comes to their kids/family. Thanks for a great laugh.
I go to the comment section and at least half of the people have last names as "Nguyen." I know it's a very common name among Vietnamese but wow what a huge family xD
Lolooolol I was dying laughing at the 'viet moms dont say bye on the phone' part. African parents do THE SAME EXACT THING!!! LOLOL thanks for these vids
@Richie Le I can totally relate to the 'not saying goodbye on the phone'. My colleague/neighbour/best buddy was Vietnamese and did that all the time. Had to call him back at least once to finish any conversation.
I love starting with the fried fish. I'm Vietnamese and my wife is very white and when I made fried fish for her - it was the first fish dish she liked. We live in the Pacific Northwest, where there is plenty of fresh fish and now our daughter enjoys it also. I made Chao today and getting it ready for tomorrows dinner and my wife came home sick and that is the only dish she can eat with a sick stomach. I make Chao every year for all my neighbors at our Asian New Year party, it's always a favorite dish.
lem0nsnout Hello in Vietnamese is spelled "chào" Porridge is spelled "cháo" They are both pronounce differently too. The marks on the vowels can change everything about the spelling and pronunciation.
you probably missed the "He/she is much better than you. Why can't you be like him/her?" part :))) And when my mom scolds me for being bad, she brings all of the mistake i made in the past up :))))
my mom is cambodian but she does the same things xD Telling me that i eat too much although she cooked huge portions and wanted me to finish everything xD Moms logic
They always use chopsticks, never throw always plastic bags, never allow wearing shoes in the house, always keep the house SUPPER organize, if you mess up the house, you're in big trouble :)))))
Pls make more videos with your mom, this made my day. My mom always reminds me to wear jacket when i go out, because she doesnt want me to get dark, that is what most of viet mothers usually do

My parents, aunts, and grandparents before were like "oh you too skinny eat some more" but now theyre like "you so fat now! Eat less work out some more." And im over here just like "MAKE UP YOUR MINDS GAWD"
Except the part about dating, rest of these are so true even though my mom is Viet from Vietnam. I guess it's in our heart. Caring and loving Viet mom. Love to all the Viet mom with respect!
Totally related about the "do not want you to get dark" my mom always be like "put on your jacket, no guys wanna marry you if you have tanned skin" and she's always willing to get the jacket for me if I'm too lazy to get it myself LoL

Yeah, our parents speak vietnamese to us cause they don't want us to forget our mother tongue and our culture. I love it when I met Vietnamese who live in other countries for a long time but they do prefer speaking vietnamese, that's what make me feel warm.
Me too! Nice to see someone with a similar opinion :)

my dad is vietnamese, but for some reason he never talked to me in his language, so right now i can't speak it fluently, so disappointed :

Bạn ơi bình tĩnhh, bình tĩnh. Mình nghĩ bác ấy nói "all day long" cho thêm yếu tố hài hước thôi.
One thing about Viet moms, when you can barely speak Vietnamese anymore and you pronounce a word wrong or say something totally off, they laugh their asses off and proceed to tell the WHOLE family and ALL of your aunts, uncles, and cousins about how bad your Vietnamese is....

I go to the comment section and at least half of the people have last names as "Nguyen." I know it's a very common name among Vietnamese but wow what a huge family xD
Neko ち ゃん Most of them aren't related. There was a point in time when everyone had to change their family name to that of the dynasty they were in
Of the viet kids in my school, we were either Hoang or Nguyen. I was on the Hoang side.
My grandmas last name is Nguyen so is my friend Ashley and angelina
All I do is Nguyen, Nguyen, Nguyen, no matter Quan.

So cutely funny and very uplifting, thank you Richie. I love the Northern accent by the way.
