- Hi everybody,
Thanks so much for the hundreds of submissions that we have received for the new series. I have tried to pick out varying degrees of expertise here to ensure that we cover the most amount of ground we can in these episodes. It felt important in the beginning to speak to the beginners, the intermediates and the potential professionals. It was a fun experience and I'm looking forward to digging into the rest of the pile.
I hope I have managed to be of service in some way in this video and congratulations to the submissions that feature!
Thanks,

Have you ever considered making a video on how a design transitions to engineering?
i never thought i would hear a good idea from the comments section
Great suggestion. The importance of the flow and the "moving nature" of a car design is interesting indeed.
I don't know about car designs but I know in my domain (Architecture) the form follow the fonction. So we put the essential elements first then we make the form of the house/building so I wonder if in car design its the same
Повечето видеа, които съм качвал в канала си през последните няколко години, показват именно прехода от оформление към практически разработени части на колата.
@@kitsune2509 , virtually all Zaha Hadid projects are the opposite, i.e. the function follows the form, which makes them extremely expensive to build, less spacious and very difficult to clean the glasses due to the use of plenty of unnecessary elements that are there just to serve the design intent. Many other architects also favor the looks and threat the practicality as a less important aspect of the building.
Thanks Frank sir, it means a lot to me.
Noice
Anikat , I think you should start your own RUclips channel
@@omaralkayal7598 No, he shouldn't. He's young and learning. Starting his own channel would be a distraction from all the things he needs to learn to get to Frank's level. Beginners don't need to start teaching, their job is to learn their craft and become a master before showing others. He does have raw talent, but that is nothing without the rest of the journey.
Frank, what you’re doing with your RUclips channel is incredible! It was so cool to not only have you critique these viewer-submitted designs, but to also walk through your changes and the reasoning behind them. You, sir, are a legend! I can’t wait to see what other videos you have in the pipeline and I’ll be along for the ride the whole way!
Thanks!
Only Frank can wear tracksuits, dress shirt and sandals at once and still own it.
Is that a sandal tho?

Hell yea go Aniket! Great job and I'd love to buy one of the vehicles you design one day ANiket

@@CameraEye971 Thanks
Aniket Pal you’re so welcome! Good luck on your future!
The tools include a nice glass of whisky 😎
Or even a few of them)
I thought I was the only one
And a cigar
don't forget a cigar! he has those inside usually. this is a man of class.
I’m picturing a young person like Aniket seeing this and hearing they have potential and going on to design cars or achieve wherever dreams they have and never forgetting the time someone they admired gave them encouragement. It’s the best.
I really hope so this happens. Unfortunately careers regarding to automotive designing are really close to none in our country so people don't even appreciate those who are interested in it. I am pretty sure Aniket must be excited af!
@@thelastdragonbender5824 true. Automotive design is seriously underrated
@@thelastdragonbender5824 I am!!
Aniket Pal rlly nice design pal!
What I would do to be 15 again and be this invested in automotive design
I would love to hear what you have to say about Tesla's Cybertruck design.
boxy. hehe
@@amaldev4150 i would say big "score" design
I did ask him a couple vids ago and Frank said "Watch this space".
Well it took him one year to make a review
That horse sculpture in the back is just gorgeous!
this is incredibly well done and actual tips to help them improve at each of their skill levels and not like “oh first of all learn how to sketch perfectly straight lines and perfect ellipses then we can talk” - if that makes any sense...
Agreed! Respect to this man for focusing on the ideas itself and not the execution.
100% couldn't agree more! Would be awesome to have dozens of Franks on YT, incredible to learn from him
Love this series. Spent my whole youth drawing cars but for reasons unknown stopped. May put pencil to paper again soon 👏🏼
Don’t give up, please give it a try again. I believe in you!
i just bought an ipad and have begun sketching cars even more . ipad or paper, you'll enjoy it too
Downhill 👊🏼
Me too! My first drawing was 99% similar to the first one in the video. Even the rim design!
you whould be a great teacher
Thank you
It’s about time a channel like this exists on RUclips. Keep up the great work, these are high quality videos!
This was such a pleasant surprise on my feed, thanks Frank!
Very nice design then I see your profile picture lmao
Great design👍...I'm 19 years old and I also like designing cars a lot ...please give some tips to improve!! It would help a lot😃
Great Work Ishaan. 👍🏼
@@divyanshjain4962 you can send the designs to Frank, you might get lucky!
Stupid design imo, all is subjekt
I like the 2020CV design. Frank is right, it needs to be taken to the next level.
I think he needs to tone down the rear slope a bit, otherwise it could get a sort of sc 57 Atlantic vibe to it. I'm not a designer though so that's just my opinion
There actually was a concept car in 2009 that shares some ideas with this sketch, the Citroën reVOLTe concept. It has more integrated fenders, but it is also quite round and more or less reduced. The sketch really goes much further in terms of simplicity, which is maybe more fitting to the original 2CV
PLEASE DO MORE! These are great. Hope you get a chance to look at mine.
did you email him the design?
Omg this was the quickest 20 minutes a video has ever felt. Id love to watch more of these.
Ya
As a student of Industrial Design, but never worked professionally in the field, this is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. Thanks for doing these videos Frank!
after watching this, I really just want to go and draw some cars again. haven't done that in way too long haha!
Heyy borii
Same for me man I used to draw so many cars up until I turned 13 or something and unfortunately I just stopped someday for whatever reason. Now I'm 22 and I wonder how much I could've progressed if I hadn't stopped in the first place.
@@bierlein4934 facts bro me too
This is amazing frank you are inspiring a new generation
6 minutes into the video, and feel I've already learnt the basic principles to get cracking with a car design. Superb teaching.
Glad you liked it
Absolutely brilliant Frank. I have to say, as a musician myself, I did appreciate those musical references!
This video was so inspirational, and your presentation technique was flawless :)
Sir Frank, this is content people need! So glad to you have you around teaching the new generation. Entertaining, making something that is a productive use of our time and inspiring. And you got a great video editor, he is taking it to another level by adding the funny side of you.
Thank you
Sir you are a legendary car designer so why are you left company come on RUclips you can become head of design officer in any company please tell me
AEROLL Freedom to design all the things I want to design. 😉👍
Frank, Alfa Romeo sells a bourbon glass that actually holds a cigar through it! Perfect for you friend! lol
The first one is the best. The proportions are the most important base to get right and that was the best looking vehicle by far. Nr. 2 did not put much effort into it and nr. 3 I just dont feel it plus I see no drawing of it.
Be ready to see a lot of corrupted perspectives from my designs next time 😋
Please review the one minute video - Critiquing your Design ? - for the information regarding sending a sketch in.
sir it would be great if you would share the link
@@josephkurian7426 I agree Joseph. It’s in the first critique episode.

You should critique the new BMW’s, they’ve been getting progressively more ugly
That first one strongly reminds me of an NSX.Its cool.Love that horse by the way very cool piece of art
I was actually inspired a bit by the current NSX.

Love it! Send in a drawing as well and really hope there will be future episodes feature some of the others as well:) Thx for such a amazing channel! In the world of tiktok, memes and alot of just useless crap, this is soo refreshing!
TikTok is so unnötig, zeitverschwendend and scheiße
Man this is so cool. Having the designer of so many good and beautiful cars here on youtube, reviewing designs from all the people, being "closer" to all the fans... As soon as I see an upload from you I rush to YT to watch it. Awesome man!!
Damn i cant even draw and im intrigued by what you say. Keep it up
"Hard for engineer to slove" that hit me cause i'm automotive engineer student😊
Frank, get Chris Bangle on. Have a cup of coffee and chat about car design. Or perhaps a whiskey
This is some ground breaking stuff... Brilliant series.
Wow this was awesome session
Keep this going sir
I wold love to send you one of my designs and too see other sketches can you do this tipe of episode again, please!
This is the channel we needed in the car community, what a pleasure to watch
This is really interesting and useful. As a non-designer you get an idea why a certain shape is beautiful or why you feel a certain way when seeing a particular shape (or collection of shapes in the case of cars). Thanks for taking the time to explain this, I can't wait to see more of these episodes.
I could really do with that zen mobile, it's almost a perfect camper
Hi Frank, great show!
Really interesting video Frank. I like the approach you’ve taken. Constructive critiques on design and technique and above all really encouraging of these up and coming designers. How cool it must be to have your design feature in a Frank Stephenson video! They must be walking ten feet off the ground right now. Bravo sir!
One thing that is especially interesting about this series is that you didn't just show a bunch of sketches that are already great. You gave everyone at all levels a chance to showcase their work and improve from your meaningful feedback. Keep it up!
Good proportions and shapes make for good design. Glad these young designers showed this , too many designs today are focusing on the fussy detail rather than the purity of shape . Thanks for the vid Frank looking forward to the next .
the Golden ratio. 1.618 still I need more and more practice before i pass my design need more of confidence, for now Back to the drawing board
Hi Frank, love your channel and approach. I own a 2008 Ferrari 599 GTB (Grigio Silverstone with Bordeaux interior) and would love to hear of your involvement with this vehicle and your thoughts on the design. Thanks Jeff.
I was visualizing an LMP900 car, I preferably like the early 2000s Le man cars and I want to draw my own modern version.
The ‘minivan’ room could sit on hydraulics - great designs from the students and insightful coaching from you
Mr. Frank, Thank you for the videos. I am just a car lover but don't truly understand design and you explanation about design helps me to buy/look a car in a completely different way. Thank you for taking the time.
I've started drawing cars 5 days ago, I'm not really good at drawing anything(actually I'm pretty bad), but I think I'll send my drawings, I think it should help me.
Hey Frank. Will you take more submissions in the feature? Thanks for the content!
Cool!!!! Espero analice mi diseño de Bugatti. EB 49
I think you would love my work im doing pretty good for my age (12) pretty trash compared to him though this gave me a lot of confidence because i can see what other people are doing at my age
Kudos for doing this to help aspiring designers out. Important work.
Great video Frank. l love the fact you do your critique with a big fat cigar by your side and a tumbler of cognac , l wish yiu were my art teacher when l was at school lol 😆😉
im so distracted by that horse sculpture, absolutely incredible !!

I don't know where to begin. That pants, that shoes, that shirt, that watch, that glasses, that hooorse! Just the best i dont give a fuck style!
Can you talk about the new Audi A5/RS5 lines? Thank you!
That's pure gold
I always found that giving depth to the design is hard, thanks for the tips!
Frank, you are fast becoming a living legend in my book!
If only this top quality advice was around when I was a young boy, designing cars day and night.
That horse looks so sad
can you, as the first x5 designer, react to the latest BMW x5?
The Zen Truck™, the best kidnapping vehicle
"make it difficult for the engineers, that's a good design"
@frankstephenson It’s great to know which road to take, especially by someone like you who is one the best and most experienced in the field.
Could you do a reaction on the new M3 and M4 competition?
I drew some amazing cars around age 9, as I got into cars a lot then, for whatever reason.
Kind of masterclass on car design. Excellent.
Hello mr. Frank. Can I send you some of my drawings ?
amazing. Im not even a designer and I still enjoy these. would love to see u critique some Alfas. I got a 4C 😍😍

Well done to the people that sent there designs on as its brave to put your design in front of a design legend 👏
Imagine being 15 and a guy with this dude's experience says 'very good drawing' and 'you have potential'. Sheesh!
I have zero idea about design but these videos are very fun to watch
Can you pick apart the new M3/M4?
He put the apples there just for the video. Who leaves apples outside? And books.
I get the whiskey.
You need to eat more apples G, good for gas. And you should get out and read more. And real whisky is spelled without the e. 😉👍

The quality of your critique is amazing! So humble and yet constructive. Very inspirational!

Where can I submit my own designs? I appreciate this series of yours, and would love to get some fine advice from someone like youself. Thank you for doing this.
Mr. Frank, you give novice designers a great desire to develop, and moreover, you let them know which way to develop. There are very, very few people who give such hope and useful criticism to the work of novice car designers. The very fact that such an experienced and well-known car designer looks at our work is a big step forward for us. This video met all expectations and i look forward to a new video review, which may include my design
Yo hold on, is that a Butterfield horse sculpture just casually chilling in the background?!
Episode 2 pleaseeeee
I love the fact Frank has created this critique forum, what an amazing humble and yet mega talented designer. In my opinion one of the best car designers in the world. His biomimicry philosophy and forward thinking innovation is unparalleled. I am lucky enough to have a 12C Spider on my driveway and marvel at the lines every time I look at it....top man Frank
Thank you
Can I critique your sandals?
Wow, such a priceless content)
I wish I could draw in 3d. I’m trying to learn CAD but I’m not experienced
Please review the new S klasse design!!!
Waiting for part 2 pretty excited 😄
When Frank puts it so succinctly and honestly, they critique makes a lot of sense.... so so good.
Don't know how I ended up here... I have zero interest in cars or how they look...
But it was still quite fascinating listening to a pro tell how it's done.
Cheers T!
Frank, you give us all hope that society will one day accept us in our track pants and sandals. Yessss!
