Xenophobe was one of my favorites in high school. I used to play that and Bad Dudes every Saturday.
Man I haven't actually seen the gameplay on Xenophone since I was a kid. I just realized this was one of games they had at the Boy and Girls Club I went to when I was a kid. Really neat game.
I used to love Xenophobe in the arcades back in the day, great find! It would be pretty sweet if possible to put it and rampage on a switcher in the same cab!
My local arcade had that game for years. I always thought the split screen was really neat.

Xenophobe! I remember that! Friend of mine had a birthday party at a pizza place and they gave us freeplay access to Afterburner and Xenophobe. Kids were lined up behind 'em ten-stacked. It's a wonky game to be sure but an interesting one and a cool co-op experience.

Kind of hard to pass on a $100 pickup, sound should be a cheap fix. If you end up flipping it at least it will be fully working and enjoyed by another collector, congrats John!!!
Ack, John! Your arcade is in such disarray, LOL. It's also going to be weird seeing anything other then Tron, Journey, and Paperboy in background after it's been the backdrop for so long, and ah, Xenophobe. First time I ever played it was in MAME as I've never found it in any local arcade and always thought it was the weirdest game with that 3 player split screen that stays that way even when playing single player. It's such a unique specimen.
Thank you for responding to my viewer-mail ;) I cant wait to see more Ghostbusters stuff. Junk was the wrong word to describe the quality issue... I´ll definitely own a Ghostbuster sometime in the future, i just have to wait until is gets older and cheaper. Before that i´ll gonna buy an Stern Avengers or Bally Cirqus Voltaire. ;)
It'a a nice game, I remember playing this with a friend back in the day on my C64! I think it's inspired both on Aliens and Star Trek, it's fun but not very deep since almost all the objects are just for score and haven't a practical use.
I knew it had to be post-1986 because I remember it came out soon after I got my drivers license. Of course, I did a lot of arcade hopping as soon as I was able to drive!
Such a great game, Xenophobe. I played it a lot in the arcade and on my Atari 7800. The 7800 had an awesome 2 player version of Xenophobe. Good times!
Really cool grab, at first I thought you grab that Pigskin that showed up recently on CG. Sad to see the Out Run leave though. That cabinet sure is a looker, just wished that they would have put some more effort on the side art, maybe with some color matching t-molding you could give even more style to that game. Just fooling around here but do you think it would be cool to have some kind of pcb switcher that could run both this game and the other classic 3 players game in this cabinet? I know it sounds crazy since this is no jamma connection here, but I guess that this could maybe be a new occasion for a collaboration with Ben Heck or something like that. Anyway great video cheers!

Hell yeah! Xenophobe is the bomb! I think that is a great addition to the collection because it's a game that isn't Mame-able. When I play it on Mame, it too easy to frantically fire your gun when using a normal panel button. You have to do it the man's way and pull the trigger until you get arthritis. I like the complexity of gameplay and controls. You really felt like you mastered something when got gud. Plus, they weren't afraid to do a Star Trek and Aliens mash up.
Game looks really good I would do a mini restoration on the black paint mostly.

Nice pickup and the cabinet is in good condition. I think the Firefox needs to go next to the Journey in the gameroom.

Xenophobe. I played countless hours at the Enlisted Club @ Ft. Eustis, VA. 1987. A very good port was made to Super Nintendo which I also played the crap out of. Got my own Xenophobe about 5 years ago. I'm gonna say it was in the first ten machines in my collection. It's one of those that fall outside the classic era, but I may have played more than any classic back in the day, probably because I had adult money in my pocket by 1987.
Xenophobe is awesome, John! Lol. I played that game a lot with my brother on the Commodore 64.
ADAM!!!!!!!........................No sound eh? Check the Speakers make sure the terminals aren't rusted. Make absolutely sure ALL of the caps don't have a High ESR, you have your meter.......check to see if there's a volume Pot and see if its functional......thats all i can think of John...............BTW thats a sweet game and its a MONSTER!

My first guess was also Rampage, and Xenophobe was my second even though I knew it came out around 86 not 84. I remember playing this back in the day. ;)

So I have a lot to say here. 1st... I'm sitting in bed on my one day off a week and I see a new video and it's one of my favorite series. I love the pick up videos and when I saw it was an hour it made my night. Then... I see Adam is in the video and I'm even more excited. This dude is as cool as a cucumber and is a joy to have around. Adam rocks. He's the shit. BUT... I see that damn wobbly table in your basement and it drives me nuts. It hasn't stopped wobbling for like 5 years. Hello John! I'm Enjoin watching your videos remind me for the good old days when I played arcade games! But where I'm living there is no more Arcade games now. I'm seen that in your game collection you have more old rare games but there is not have many popular games what I played here in my country, I would like to bring to your collection some popular games like: Cadillac's & Dinosaurs, King of fighters '94, Final Fight, Mortal Combat 1, and make video review! and game play! I think that would be Excellent to watch also make video for home build arcade machine tutorial, I will love that much be cause I'm in plan to build home arcade machine and need good tutorial from you!! :)

YES you need a Xenophobe! It's a unique, quirky game that people haven't already played a million times. Get rid of one of those pinball machines to make room for it, but not the Ghostbusters!

I've been passing on a $150 working Xenophobe. Never played the arcade version but I played it on Game Gear.
Adam may think you have a problem with wanting a Xenophobe, but I think you made an awesome purchase! That game gets no love at all!

John first fix the tron light and pull it out of the corner. Second: xenophobe is awesome! It's been on my watch list for some time. Last one I saw was an old TNT restore and it was 1400from a private owner (he was taking a loss I'm sure). Not sure why Adam said he sees them all the time. Cabinet is classic. You will get people that tell you they get bored after a few minutes. But if you set limits and follow the goals, it's quite challenging.
Love your channel John, but sometimes I wish you'd do some work/restorations on pins. Not even the old EM you have...I'd rather see you pick up a 90's pin to restore...I know it's much more expensive though..but it'd be SO worth it!
I'd love to do that. Just really haven't found the right project yet.
Sorry about the rant its just I found it a little funny there you AND adam had a senior moment. Anyways I THINK, if I remember right from seeing something similar before that flashing and then going out of the LED is an error code. Youll probably find there is a problem with the 68000 CPU either communicating with the game PCB or its own ROMs. Whats also getting me is there is no hum or hiss from the speakers. Mabye try pushing the red sound test button on the sound board?

Sucks the Outrun is gone! Knew that was on the chopping block. Not a fan of Xenophobe myself, but it is unique and one that would probably fit into your basement well
I actually knew what game it was before you revealed it. I don't think that one is a keeper to be honest. I'd probably fix it up make it work completely and then trade it with someone or sell it.

Used to love this game in the 80s, bought the NES version then which was a good port. No real ending to the game though, no boss fights kinda limits the fun for me though. Good if you just focus on achieving a high score.

well y'know what they say, the first step is admitting you have a problem! :P I don't have a lot of experience with Xenophobe, I think I rented it decades ago on NES and that was basically it besides a game or two in MAME, or on one of the Midway collections on PS2. Actually a pretty fun game as I recall!!

i remember this game i play this game in arcade , and thought it was rip off , you only use part of the screen when playing one player , drop maybe 2 quarters in it , never play it again

ah ok my bad! actually looking it up it is the name of the board. some silly names around for them boards! so if thats good it means no amp? it concerns me theres no sound at all the speakers should at least hum if you touch the amp input.
There is hum which I think is an indicator the amp is working.

SOUNDS GOOD is the same of the LED man! IT flashes on self test then stays on if the sounds are ok, the board isnt called sounds good.
+MAGIK lol. I think it is the name of the board. That list of Bally Boards I had at the end of the video lists the board as sounds good.
It could be a mistake everyones made but i think its the name of the led . And it should flash then stay on. Its telling u something with the led mabye its counting the ROMs and stopping at the bad one.
Get the board to adams with the logic analyser. Beyta the 68000s not talking to the PCB.
