  • Hello, Captain Josh here! These are one of my favorite animals in the Pacific Northwest, and this is one of my favorite memories of diving with wild Pacific Wolf Eels, documented on my GoPro. Diving depth was about 55 feet, and I guess he thought that we might have brought him something to eat, like a sea urchin or a clam, so he came out to say hello! (I'm the diver he takes a selfie with!)

Wow that’s so cool, I didn’t know Wolf eels could be so docile

They can be incredibly friendly. I think of them as like bulldogs of the sea; ugly, cute, and friendly!

Wolf eels might look ugly and a little creepy when you first see them, but they have a sort of charm to them when you get to know them!🥰

Very interesting. They look quite intimidating. How did you know not to be afraid of them?

Well, I know that their usual prey is clams, crabs, and sea urchins, I've interacted with them a little bit before, and I know of others who have as well. Its behavior made me think it was more curious and inquisitive than anything else. However, I was careful to keep my fingers closed so he couldn't nip one if he decided to.
