I just signed on my Samsung phone with the S-Pen, took it into GIMP (free software), and used select by colour to erase the background. It's a signature. It doesn't matter if it is a rasterized image, I'm hardly going to blow it up to put it on a billboard.

A neat method to create a digital signature. In my case, I'm an artist, I just use my drawing tablet to sign and make it a png. Any cheap drawing tablet will suffice, and I'm sure any program similar to photoshop will be fine as well.

She was doing so from her phone and needed to sign so she did a squiggle of her name and it worked. If she was on her laptop I would've definitely given her my drawing tablet to do so much easier. If anyone is wondering she needed some documents about the size of our house (in a nutshell public documents) and they needed some signature to proceed. Sometimes websites do that.

Honestly lol. You could even just use the quick selection or the magic wand tool, select the signature, then copy it to a new layer. Delete the old and there you go. These 20 extra steps he included seem to function only to confuse new users to photoshop and over-complicate a simple process.
Or, just convert to grayscale, adjust the curves OR levels to get a nice clean black, convert to bitmap, export as a TIFF, then import into your favorite layout and change the colour THERE without having to make a new photoshop file every time you want the sig in a different colour.
Might I point out, this is equally as secure as the 'no signature' on the back of most people's credit/debit cards that's never verified or the scribble most people sign on on a receipt. You want digital security use public key encryption, which no one uses and is Hellainconvenient. U can take picture from ur camera and there are tons of multiple site that can produce a perfect digital copy for free. I've done it 4 years back with an average mobile camera.

There is a MUCH MUCH easier way: Open Preview and then just click on Markup then click on the Signature icon then if you have a Mac with a trackpad, you can just draw your signature on it, or if you have an M1 iMac or something (with a mouse ONLY) like I do, write it on a plain sheet of paper and choose the "camera" option then show it and then you can add it to your document. Once you add it once, it gets saved in the signature option under markup so you don't have to repeat it....
Easier with paint tool SAI: after scanning, adjust the contrast and brightness untill you're satisfied, then on layers select "brightness to transparency" or something like that, and boom there you have it, now you can lock the transparency and color it whatever you want

A signature may be the last resort to get stolen money refunded. But no chance, if the signatur was also stolen, or forgotten on a sold phone or computer.

Digitalized signature are highly unsecure and easier to copy than classical signatures on paper and even classical signatures are highly unsecure and easy to fake. Digital signature on the other hand is the most secure way to authenticate yourself on the internet.
Adobe Acrobat mixes the two, you get a 'stamp' on the PDF and clicking on it shows the details of the digital signature, so if you print it you still see the digitized one printed, if you open it you can verify it's actually the person that signed it

Connect mobile device to computer and transfer the file over, then use however you wish! :) Edit: Forgot about the simpler way lol, take photo well lit and clearly legible on white paper, export to IbisPaint X, click the layers page and then the three vertically aligned dots, select “remove white” (either “colour” or “greyscale”, whichever you want) and boom transparent background. Export, send to computer the same way as my previous method, and use as you wish :)

How to make a transparent png the complicated way. "Can you hammer this nail please" "Sure" (proceeds to get a crane with a backhoe attached to the crane with a jackhammer mounted to the backhoe then parks it conveniently over the nail, gets out of crane and proceeds to manually hammer the nail.) Thats what you did buddy.
He showed you the way to make a really clean and sharp signature. Do this once and you’ll have a brilliant looking signature to virtually sign your documents without anyone being able to tell it’s digital. If you think a shitty app can do this, then good luck in your life 🤡
I personally redraw the signature in illustrator in vector for my customer making a clean signature to be use for corporate purposes but your technique works for personal usage and it's way easier to master.
Open the scan in Gimp, remove all saturation, add some more contrast, use the "color to alpha" tool to remove all white pixels. Done. Photoshop really likes complicating some of the most simple tasks.
Or save a few steps by just chroma-keying out the white background. You can raise the contrast before you do it if the picture isn't great quality, but I've never had any problem with this method.

Ah yes, fuzzy select and free select + the delete key, an easy way to clear background of something you want to make into a png, plus gimp is free.
You should also apply a blur. Put the brightness up a bit. The intensity up a bit in the contrast all the way down and It will smooth out the edges

No. It will be plain black with your method. This method it has darker and lighter parts because it is an actual autograph. Some depth.

You can use this for drawing as well! You can import your sketch like that or even do your outlines on paper and then color them digitally.

With Alt/ Opt, You can have more control while sliding (without using it, the effect may be too harsh).

yeah there's a ton of easy ways to do this, but this is a good Photoshop tutorial nonetheless.

Apart from saving it to your iCloud and letting you add to any pdfs in a safe way (once saved, you can’t even select the signature anymore).

heres an easier way: select the space around it, delete that.
it doesnt have to be that hard.
Selecting the space, and deleting it would still leave artifacting on the signature. This method ensures that you can have the signature and background be different from the originals. It also retains the thickness and transparency of the pen strokes.

Sign in a page, then take a picture in "Cam Scanner" app.
Then in Adobe illustrator, trace image im black and white. Then ignore white.

An alternative is :
Just go to select > color range > and choose white. Then ctrl. + Shift + I and then ctrl. + J. Voila ! Your signature is ready !
I personally redraw the signature in illustrator in vector for my customer making a clean signature to be use for corporate purposes but your technique works for personal usage and it's way easier to master.

I used PowerPoint, worked like a charm
Open the scan in Gimp, remove all saturation, add some more contrast, use the "color to alpha" tool to remove all white pixels. Done.
Photoshop really likes complicating some of the most simple tasks.

If you use Adobe Illustrator you could just use the image trace tool and expand the result, delete the white part, then save it as a PNG and that's it
Or save a few steps by just chroma-keying out the white background. You can raise the contrast before you do it if the picture isn't great quality, but I've never had any problem with this method.
