This is the best damn golf advice I've ever heard! Coming from a baseball and tennis background, I had a pretty good natural swing compared to a lot of raw beginners, but when I really got into the game and started looking at all sorts of instructional material, thinking about positions and a million different things, my swing got really lost and I was struggling to find one to stick with. Going back to basics and using the feel of hitting developed in baseball and tennis brought a lot more consistency, not to mention being easier in the body than trying all these unnatural movements, and whaddya know, also much better positions visually.
One thing that took time to adjust, though, was getting neutral hand position at impact. In tennis, you pretty much never hit a flat forehand, 95% top spin 5% slice? With baseball it doesn't matter where you make impact around the circumference of the barrel, so the tendency is trail hand under (strong grip) for big power. The drill Paddy posted alternating hook and sliced and working your way to neutral helps getting this feeling.

Watching hundreds of golfers as a starter / marshal at a course I realized they sliced and hooked because they were falling off balance in the takeaway, impact and finish without seeming to realize it and therefore not having a clue it was the root cause of their problem. I also realized I was suffering from the same problem.
When my subconscious brain sensed a loss of balance it solved the problem by trying to steer the source of the imbalance, the club swinging club head, in some other direction that felt more in balance. Now I recognize that most beginner swing faults like pronating the left hand, swinging the club back too inside and low, bending the elbows in the process, not letting the club pull the left arm straight in the takeaway and backswing and bending elbows after impact in the finish are all subconscious reactions (intuitive solutions) to sensing a loss of balance.
A drill I created to help golfers with that problem is to show them where the club should be outside the hands in the takeaway and finish extensions, have them hold it out there and pull on their club head with about 2x the force the club would if they swung it there properly. It usually takes pulling them off their feet that way 3-4x times before their subconscious brain to realize “Hey, this is just like tug of war with the club” and start shifting hips, bracing the legs and counter falling the upper body. Then conscious of where they should be swinging the club to (like GPS waypoints) and aware it will try to pull them off balance they reflexively brace and manage to swing in balance start to finish.
The other thing that seems to work really well with beginners is to have them address the ball with only their left hand on the grip but with hips 45° open and face placed square just in front of the ball - where it will be as the ball releases to the target. Then keeping their right elbow tucked in and bent over the the hip side bend down in order to get their right hand on the grip. I have them pose and take their grip where the pros are just as ball releases. Again it takes 3-4 times from an upright position to grasp the side bend action but when they do it automatically becomes part of their swing and they stop coming over the top and slicing.
The underlying psychology is the fact 90% of golfers have no real clue what the moving parts of “pro” level swing look and feel like, especially the side bend part which is critical to keep the swing path of the target line. Posing them like a pro golfer at the key waypoints and working them slowly between them makes gives their conscious brains a blueprint to follow which with a bit of repetition gets ingrained subconsciously.

I was a pretty good tennis player and this tip of yours just added 30 yds to my drive! I was swinging too slow and trying to reach positions. Instead thought low forehand with a quicker tempo and problem solved!

in tennis the hands need to be active and finessed, whereas in golf I believe they need to be subdued. PH is careful to say it is a flat forehand, off a low ball, that is analogous to the golf swing, which is rarely done (low balls usually we go for spin).
