Hi. Nice find...my lawn needs mowing .....fly over here... LoL....now you and Kathy each can mow...the Green..Green Grass of Home.....LOL...... DEBORAH 🇨🇦
Generally the flow for cranking is key switch > brake/clutch pedal switch > starter relay > starter solenoid > starter motor. Pick one end and work your way to the other checking for voltage with the key turned using either a multimeter or light up voltage tester. Although I think the most common problem is just that the brake pedal switch breaks loose resulting in the lever not pressing the switch when you push the pedal down.
Theres a backfire actuator on the bottom of the bowl on the carb might be stuck open i think taryl has a video on how to get them unstuck but im not sure what video it is. Or it could be something stupid.
On mine the switch went bad where you engage and disengage the blade. It would try and start then click. That fix that one. I have a cub cadet that would try to start.Did everything I could think of. My dad tried to cranke it. Went to his car got 25 amp fuse and it fired right up Can’t wait for future videos.
@@RickMammana seemed to me like it was just the key switch. If it was the solenoid you’d likely hear clicking noises. But the inconsistencies with the headlights on and off (while I was watching you turn the key several times) instantly made me wonder how good that key switch is
Put the hood down. Could be a safety switch. Free older JD I brought home needed a new piston. It came with mower deck and snowblower. Rebuilt the motor and it ran great. I couldn't keep the belt in place and it was too big to maneuver in my yard. Sold for $300.
Wow a garage kept free john deere! Man that thing is near perfect condition! Probably needs some carburetor work try cleaning out the carburetor and see what happens man this is a very nice john deere for it's age n hours and only 157 hours? They didn't mow much with it congrats on your free john deere! Best of luck!!
Awww may I have it lol I can mow my trailer park all at once instead of five different people on 2 to 5 days to mow it and my landlord already has one. Baha😂
Definitely electrical unless the engine is locked up I see the lights go on when the key is turned try jumping the starter. Oh now that I watched it more it does turn over still I would jump the starter. Now that I seen it turn over I would take the air filter off and spray some starter fluid it it should run for a few seconds ok im done.
@@RickMammana unhook the inlet fuel hose at the carburetor. Crank it over and see if gas pulsate out. If so check the spark, if you have spark and gas . Check compression. Could be pluged carburetor inlet needle or jet if everything else looks good. Good compression, spark, fuel means it will run . Laws of physics !
@@GeometryDashYT. But the engine turns over. Could you explain your theory more.? Does a “key spring loaded” wire go to the starter solenoid, and then a “key always hot” wire goes to the coil. 🤷🏻♀️
More fun on the way. Can't wait. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
That is crazy. Nice of your neighbor to give it to you. Nice looking mower! Hope you get it fixed!
I hope so too! :)

Sounds great! That's gonna be fun! If I was nearby I'd mow it for you.

Ok. I'm working on it. Another video will be on tomorrow with my progress. Thank You!
Check the harness for the seat safety turnoff

I got it going. See my latest video! 👍
Yes, no fuel snip the end of it off
Maybe an electrical problem. Might also be a clogged fuel line or filter too.
First thing I check is safety switches. If they work correctly then go to spark at the spark plug. Then fuel at the carburetor. Hope this helps.
Ok Thanks, I'm gonna try some stuff tomorrow, I'll record that and put the video on.
Wow Rick... People sure do abuse lawn equipment in your neighborhood!😆Nice find!
I'm glad I got it!

Electrical or stuck (varnished) carburetor float ???
You are going to get some pretty good money fixing those mowers and selling them, that mower looks good.
How come I never find something like this 🤔😁😁
Overall clean condition, great find! Almost seems like the ignition is bad, paired with no spark. The seat and break switch seems fine.
Hmmm ok. Ignition other than the key switch?
@@RickMammana seemed to me like it was just the key switch. If it was the solenoid you’d likely hear clicking noises. But the inconsistencies with the headlights on and off (while I was watching you turn the key several times) instantly made me wonder how good that key switch is
@@jakedurocher3402 Yes but when I pour gas it starts? The key switch seems ok.. ?
That machine is New!!!!
Try replacing the seat switch or bypass it.

I love your videos keep up the great ❤❤
Thank you so much!
@RickMammana no problem you the best
I say you need to paint one of them pink for Kathy!
Another toy to work on and have fun on.
I have a LA110 and a S140 both are good mowers.
Nice tractor 🚜
Thanks 👍
100% better than the d105 John deere made just saying from experience
Buy some thing good I own a 1984 d 782 diesel cub cadet great mower I loved it
do you still have your john deere la145?
Yup!
You know what they say, once you have 3 of something you’re a collector! Rick Mammana the tractor collector. 😂
Ok. I am! 👍😎👍
You must be a Free Mower Magnet 😂
👍😁👍
Pretty soon you'll have as many riding mowers as you have pressure cookers
I hope so! :)
Oh no we created a monster. 😅👍 GoJohn Deer.💯 maybe you should open up your own shop. When you retire. ?❤
Another one that's awesome I hope you get it going
I hope so too! Thanks.
Hi Rick ❤
Hi!
Wow, good deal. You’ll figure it out. If it gets gas, and spark.. it’s gonna start. ✌🏻👍🏻😎
Hope so!

hello
did he run now
i know very well john deere

Where do you live?
Use ethanol free gas and you will never have trouble getting it running.
Rick Mammana a.k.a. "The Mower Whisperer"" !!!
Shhhhh 🚜🚜
Check the carburetor fuel shutoff switch
Ok? Have to learn where it is. Thanks.
I found one of those this past summer for free too and fixed it up and sold it for 900 smackers
That's excellent!
Its the carburetor fuel solenoid
Ok.

A bit nicer than your D105. Keep it and sell your 105. She didn’t run it much with only 157 hours plus a 48” deck?
Maybe we'll see! 👍
Put the parking brake on
Might be a bad key switch that what happened to my sisters cub cadet it was doing the same thing and I replaced the key switch and it worked perfectly
Hmmm. Even when it seems to turn over ok with the key switch? Thanks!
I have the same one 😂😅
Nice! 👍👍
Bad ignition switch
Very cool!
Yes! 👍👍
Rick John Deere Mammana
You must be making this shit up
I hope you figure it out.

Nice find. Let me know if you want to sell it.
We'll see. I hope I figure it out. Probably the carb.
Ain't got no gas in it
Uh huuh.
You now what's round with it .for a guy that nows John deer. 🤔
👍👍
You get 'nothing' for free where I live. It could be a steaming pile of💩 & someone would still charge for it!
How come you can find everything except for a Krispy Kreme?
Yeah how about that!
Fresh gas?
Maybe!
Solenoid, just guessing. I'm the wife. I really don't know jack about them.
Thank You!
bad key switch
You need gas to run it.
Thanks! I'll try that. 👍

It's a john deere no wonder it's free..no one would buy one
you dont get a riding mower for free i know better
Junk junk junk
Check the fuse
Ignition switch part number GY20074
Even if it turns over with the ignition?
Definitely not starter solenoid. You would hear clicking. Battery is new, and holding a charge? Absolutely not fuel related
