- Its time for yet another Hollow Knight Randomizer, this time using the Curse Randomizer. This setting adds a bunch of fake items that when picked up, will apply a curse effect onto the player. These include things like weakening your abilities, disabling charms, or even hiding your HUD elements. I also may have added way too many of them... Wish me luck.

I honestly didn’t realize Skurry hadn’t done a curse rando yet. I guess I’d seen so many of Fire’s curse randos that I just assumed Skurry must have done one also.

I remember reading an article pointing out that getting stronger as you play a game contradicts the intended difficulty curve, and that it would make more sense to get weaker as a game progresses. Now I can point to this video to explain why that doesn't happen.
What was that article’s logic because I am EXTREMELY confused on how they think that point makes sense
did... did they just not know that games can get harder as you progress???
Yea, what RivLabs said, most games let you get stronger while also throwing enemies that are ever harder proportionally at you as the game goes on. Kind of reads like someone either desperately needed an article or never actually played games that let you get stronger over time.
So...no RPGs, no Metroidvanias, none of the modern-ish open world games, no tower defense games, or colony building games... basically nothing* aside from maybe some platformers or puzzle games since some level of progression is close to universal in games. Why on earth are they writing about games if they apparently know barely anything about them (or their knowledge is limited to an extremely narrow niche of games)? That sounds like Dunning Kruger personified.
*I suspect that aside from it being satisfying to level up, it also sometimes involves different mechanics and options and introducing those slowly means not throwing the player in the deep end.
Curse of the Dead Gods and The Scythian made it work, but I'm not sure if many games could strike the balance without being punishing.
@@ja-melvinson7994 They're wrong about getting stronger contradicting the diffifulty curve, but a game where enemies stay at the same level but you get weaker could definitely be done and might even be interesting

The dreamer progression chain was the most insane thing ever
I think that Skurry didn't mention this in the vid, but they accidentally left duplicates off so the sporeshroom was required to finish the rando, and it was like the most expensive grubfather item, and a lot of the grubs required different items... And it's always fun to watch these videos after the vods :)
P.s. I don't know what was more insane: two subsequent kingsoul fragments, the fact that 2 dreamers required sporeshroom, the 2 "complaining strats" working subsequently, or the fact that void heart was at world sense... This Rando sure was something
I know right, and also the fact that skurry wouldn't have gone back to grubfather for a while except a few people in chat noticed whilst they were hovering over the pickup in the map 😅 and the gamba were amazing, especially ??? or ??? getting a perfect 50/50 (thx cozy)

It's definitely an edit, they've had people do it for them in other randos and it covers part of chat

I feel like this mode doesn't work without some way to remove curses in a batch. Like, perhaps, all curses could be removed each Dreamer you collect. Or perhaps there could be a shop that individually removes curses for a price (Though that of course I recognize would be much more difficult to make).
I agree either limit some of the permanent curses to only being able to show up once, or add a way to cleanse them

i feel like no duplicates setting almost always leads to a crazy and interesting progression.. not saying you should always do it, but it does seem to be the case, having the examples of this rando and the hjnyer's journal rando, these two were definitely one of the most fun ones

I'd like to see a rando where all items are shuffled, it says you got an item, while you got a different one, and you don't know, even if you opened up inventory it would say you got the fake item, the only way to know is to mess around. Mixed with other settings it would be chaos.
I actually just locked in after hearing unstoppable force, playing ultrakill has changed me as a person and I can never hear some banger music the same again without thinking "+ULTRARICOSHOT +PARRY +DISRESPECT +PROJECTILE BOOST +QUICK DRAW +MINCED"

Baldurs shell is pretty good against radiance when you don't have shade dash, because it doesn't cost you a full soul bar to block the fullscreen lasers with Baldurs as opposed to Dive.
