  • 5 Tips to Deal with Anger | A Monk's Approach
For those who are struggling with anger, here are 5 tips that may be helpful. This comes from the Buddhist lens. While we have many tools and coping skills from the mental health space, I hope this new perspective from a Buddhist monk gives you a approach and tools for your toolbox. Anger is a common issue that we all face, but if possible, we can continue to decrease it on a daily basis. I hope this helps! #monks #buddhism #anger

Whenever someone or something makes me angry, I try to control myself first by not saying anything and take a few slow deep breaths. Then I talk to a friend or co-worker about the incident just to let it off my chest. The most powerful action though is praying about it so anger do not consume me.
      Thanks ven Nick.

I used to shout, throw things, fight, sulk, be vindictive and vengeful. I was bad. Not just dealing with anger either, but my entire outlook on life was skewed. One day I was on RUclips looking for advice on how to change. I watched video after video. I couldn't really make a connection with most. Then I saw Nick. He's the real deal guys. If you try to follow even a little bit of his advice and take it seriously you'll come to realize that he knows exactly what he's talking about. His commitment to becoming a monk is super admirable as well. I decided who better to take advice from than a guy like Nick, whom if you've been following for awhile you would know about his past. He gave it all up to follow the path he's on. This is who you want to learn from. 💯💯

@@becomingabetterhuman.2994 I've been there. I was bad. BAD. Vengeful, Angry, Pessimistic, Vindictive. I started by making it a point to compliment 1 complete stranger every day. It could be anyone. The gas station clerk, a co worker, someone standing near me in a line. You don't have to go over the top with it. Little things. Tell someone they have a nice smile, or have pretty eyes, or their hair looks good, ANYTHING. Spread that energy around and I promise you will start to feel different, not only that you will start to notice things will improve in your life. Honestly. If I can change anyone can...Good Luck! I don't know you, I'll probably never meet you, see you, speak to you or get to know you. But guess what?!
      I Love You! 🙂

Whenever I feel a negative emotion, I say to myself that no matter the situations choose peace. The cycle of suffering ends with me. All is well. Everything is working out for my highest good, out of this situation only good will come, and I am safe. Saying this helps me calm down enough so I can breathe and focus on my breath.

I have my moments when I'm angry, and when that does happen, I sit with myself and I break down the scenario as to why it's making me angry, and if it makes sense to be angry. It doesn't work all the time, but its a work in progress and Im all the better for it

Rich teaching. Your comment towards the conclusion when you referenced "toolbox" truly confirmed my reflection on some issues that I have been working with.
I remind myself that the individuals were working with the tools that they had. It may sound comical, but I say to myself, "You were a car, but they only had the tools for a bicycle. Consequently, they could not service you the way that you needed."😊

When I put my mind to it I find I can stop the anger from entering my body .. now I know that I use compassion directed to the thing/person I am angry at to do this. It turns my mind around and even if I do not understand what motivated their actions I can accept it and forgive.

I have been experiencing anger this whole past year when it exploded over me like a bomb, yes through the mind first, then closely followed with emotions and it drilled deep into my psyche during a traumatic afternoon event of abuse that arose without warning that changed my life. I've told people close to me that I don't know how get over it, the anger, because I never wanted to live like that, in constant strife inside and feeling hate. And the hate perpetuates itself into continuing, and I don't want it anymore. I will never trust the people who did this to me or be around them again. And, I am seeking an escape from this inner condition of feeling hate for an enemy. I truly appreciate and thank you for your videos. Your sharing of skills and experiences is a gift to us of goodness. This talk is especially helpful to me, and I will continue towards goodness and seek it out, as I need the support and have been unable to recover fully on my own. Thank you. ❤

Some mornings it feels uncomfortable inside me as though a negative dream or emotions were in progress just before awakening.
I often do 3 sets of 10 long slow deep breaths from the lower belly, separated by a minute letting the breath return to normal.
It really helps my mind become calmer.
Chanting is another way to use breath and sound to calm down.
Chanting is particularly useful when feeling anger or the mind is in a more agitated state.
The past couple of weeks, I've been grieving the passing of my dear 18 year old cat Harry.
    We were deeply connected.
When I sense emotions arising, I breathe, then impartially witness my emotions while relaxing my body completely as the emotions pass through me.

My yoga teacher gives the same lessons as you Nick. I used to have the most hateful neighbour, so whilst I went about my day, mainly when driving and getting mad about things, I would start breathing in Peace and out Love whilst picturing their face……it was not easy, however my feelings towards them did become less angry, their actions affected me less emotionally. So I know this all works. Thank you so much for your kind wisdom, for taking the time to teach us all.

I have learned that we are all one. I have felt compassion for others when they are in a severity of stress or anger. Others' negative comments toward me fail to strike as they once did. I may find my heart opens to them, or the comment seems humorous.
I strive to love through the intensity. I strive to forgive myself and others who get carried away at times. Also, I remember what I have learned, and that I am a student of masters, and represent what came before me. I try to do this through my limitations, or newness to the practice.

This is first time I watch your channel so thanks a lot for sharing,I suffered from anger before when I was subjected to few traumas in my life,I tried like everyone the medical way psychotherapy but we live in a world where professionals are becoming less human due to how the world is turned to..so I never found confort or real help from therapy but I would like to try this new way:Buddhism to find comfort through true understanding without having to pay high price for something that may work for some & not others

Thank you for addressing this issue, Ven. Nick. I was hoping you would continue to discuss the big three of greed, anger, and delusion. You've covered greed and anger thoroughly, thank you, and I look forward to your view of delusion. Donald Simons Sadhu.
