The fuel purifier operation on ships is the responsibility of engineer officers. Starting and stopping of the ship purifier is carried out on a daily basis to ensure service tank level is maintained. As the purifier operates, it continuously separates the impurities from the oil in the form of sludge, which can be can be discharged (by desludging operation) continuously or at a time intervals, depending upon the construction, automation, and system incorporated
In a purifier, before introducing the oil, water sealing is established so that oil fill should not flow out through the heavy liquid outlet.
Feed rate and temperature of the feed is extremely important for purification. For normal oil, one stage purification is enough, but for oil containing heavy sludge or catalyst mixture, multiple purifiers are used in either parallel (preferred) or series to get better results
The new age purifiers/ clarifiers are automatically desludged at a regular interval (by use of timer and controllers. A discharge detectors on the sludge side monitors the sludge side and provides alarm signal if any abnormality is detected.

I have a question...the discharge valve to the service tank is the valve known as backpressure valve?? I heard also that backpressure should be aprox. 2bar can you explain why? With what criteria should someone adjust the pressure flow from puryfier to service tank?

The back pressure varies as the temperature, density, viscosity of feed oil inlet varies. The back pressure ensures that the oil paring disc is immersed in the clean oil on the way of pumping to the service tank.

Paring disc helps the clean oil go to the outlet side with pressure.
What is water sealing, why it is done and how does it works?
3:28 why do we supply closing water at this moment? (after switching position of 3-way valve, before supplying displacement water) Is not closing water already in the bowl? How do we know that waste water overflows to the waste water outlet after suppyling displacement water?

3:12 why we have to send bowl closing water again? The bowl is already in closed position, right?
During desludge .displacement water introduced not the sealing water
What is replacement water? And what is displacement water?
Before de-sluging, the feed is stopped. Now the displacement water is released which displaces the remaining oil and send it to the oil outlet making sure the least amount of purified oil goes to the sludge side during de-sludging process.
Surveyor asked me what was the name of the desludging mechanism in the purifier?????
Different models and make have their own desludging mechanism. Alfa Laval purifier will have different mechanism when compared to the Westfalia make.
Why the fuel comes down from the bottom of the fuel purefing?
Because of the piping and construction

It is on the outlet pipe of the purifier.

2) we use purifier to separate out water nd sludge particles present in oil but y additional sealing water??

1.it will there in the purifier till the de sludging process
2.sealing water is to seal the path of sludge...it doesnt involve in any other operation....it is just to maintain the bowl upwards
I just want to ask sir. What could cause the electric motor on an oil purifier to trip out in overload?
It can be due to -
Stuck belt in belt drive purifier
Wrong assembly of bowls and parts after overhauling
Broken or stuck gear tooth in gear drive purifier.
Worn Out frictional clutch assembly
Brake assembly malfunctioning.
What could cause the electric motor on an oil purifier to trip out in overload?
A. The bowl contains too much sludge
B. Worn and gear wheel badly damage
C. Insufficiently tighted bowl hood
D. Oil temperature is too low
