I pranked my grandma with my cousin's My Pet Monster. I left it covered up in the bed of their guest bedroom. It stayed there for about a week before grandma found it. I was sitting in the kitchen heard her "Oh!" followed by her coming out grumbling. Grandpa thought it was the funniest thing ever, Grandma, not so much.

Right? I hate how deathly seriously they take these properties. I want *all* the characters mashed together, like that 90s anti-drug special with every cartoon character under the sun in it. My Pet Monster can live with the Ewoks. The Power Rangers can fight Rubik the Cube. Jem and the Holograms can help Batman. The more random it is, the more I'm here for it.
My feeling on fandoms is that fans become obnoxious when they can no longer laugh at the thing they're a fan of. The only thing worse than Jar Jar Binks, are the people who still complain about him.

As a kid, they used to say you were such a loser, you couldn’t buy a friend. Hasbro made a toy out of that concept, called My Buddy. At least My Pet Monster could kick that guys ass.

    THANK YOU!
I remember the movie so well. I remember the cartoon. I loved the toy and never got one - my neighbor had one and I wore those shackles as often as I could!
I live in NE Ohio and these things were everywhere since American Greetings was in Cleveland.
Fun fact, the former A.G. facilities are now a MASSIVE 5 story factory sized art studio/gallery "mall" of sorts called 78th Street Studios. David Bowie even visited the place and found an artist there who illustrated the children's book he wrote.

I still have my My Pet Monster. As a child of the 80s I thought that thing was so cool but I have to say that the live action My Pet Monster movie was terrible. If I remember correctly there was a My Pet Monster cartoon series and I think I only watched a few episodes. Clearly it didn’t leave any lasting impressions. The only stuffed animal type toy I ever owned was a My Pet Monster. With that being said, I absolutely hated My Buddy. I didn’t know anyone who owned one and after the release of Child’s Play, it was a done deal. We couldn’t look at My Buddy in any other way other than a possessed psychopathic serial killer.

When I was in Army basic training, our Drill Sgt (who looked like Damon Wayans) had a My Buddy doll tucked away in one of the storage closets on our base in Fort Jackson. We were each assigned "Battle Buddies", which partnered each of us with another Private in training to keep at arms length at all times in order to prepare for being accountable in combat. However, if we repeatedly failed to stay with our Battle Buddy, the Drill Sgt would take us to the storage closet and introduce us to Buddy, and threatened us with the idea that we would have to take care of Buddy all day if we continued to stay separated from our Battle Buddies. Unfortunately my Battle Buddy was a jerk and constantly left me alone to mess around. We were the first and only pair of Battle Buddies to get the "Buddy doll treatment". From morning until bedtime, we each had to hold one of Buddy's hands, take him wherever we went. We had to give Buddy his own tray of food during meals, and make sure that we didn't waste any of his food (which was kind of a bonus), BUT we also had to sing the My Buddy song and skip around in circles in front of the entire training camp. In retrospective, I suppose this helped prepare me for parenthood... but also, it seems like a bizarre fever dream.

@@robd1329 lol! US ARMY - it was obviously meant to detour us from straying away from our battle buddies. After our incident, it definitely seemed to work. I swear our Drill Sgt looked exactly like Major Pain with Damon Wayans too. The entire situation felt like something straight out of a movie.

Wow, thank you so much for this one, I never expected to see this much love/detail given to MPM, this was one of the first things I remember getting at a garage sale as a kid(no shackles sadly) I had absolutely no idea what it was since the tag was worn off but It was almost as big as I was an I loved the design, I literally used to wrestle it as a kid so it's funny that was one of the lines in the later version. I think I paid like 3$ for it back then? I still have it today, one of the few things from my childhood I absolutely would not get rid of! sad I missed the vinyl figures but love that its worthy of having a Pop!

Had one as a kid and remember opening it under the kitchen table for some reason. My dad didn't think the shackles were supposed to be broken and almost yelled at me when I broke them right in front of him until I showed him the box. One day, it just disappeared. Loved the show too. Never forgot the theme song. I did however forget the My Buddy song. Until today.

Maybe this is just the pixy stix talking but this is my fav vid of ya’lls ever. It’s great to see that the quality of ya’lls production & writing just gets better & better.
While the Toy Galaxy oeuvre is much the same as my ooooovvvra, I don’t actually have much nostalgia or love for the toys & media of the past. I watch every TG video because of the wonderful writing, presentation & production value.
Keep on living in the past!

I always wanted a My Pet Monster. There was a evening daycare place parents could drop their kids off called Kids & Company, and they had 1 of these. So I got to play with the monster there.
They also had a Teddy Ruxbin, but the tape was never with him so he was useless. I never wanted a My Buddy, that shit was advertised non-stop and I thought it was lame as hell even when I was 5 years old. Also reminded me of chucky from Child's Play.
