    What a fine instrument this is! Despite being neglected for a long time it still holds its own. The restoration of the building and organ will be great. Once the reeds are retuned and the couplers restored, it should be quite a showpiece. Along with the Sonnenorgel, Goerlitz will be worth a visit for its organs. Thanks for this demonstration, Paul.

Also noch einmal dankeschön fürs zeigen. Thank you very much Paul for this precious addition to the sonorous documentation of Europe´s organ landscape: it really impressed me, all the more as I ran into it via a rather obscure byway (my obsession with abandoned churches and their organs ...) Your demonstration of this remarkable instrument adds to my fascination for the town of Görlitz that started with a public general rehearsal sometime in 2005 of Brahms´ German Requiem in one of the churches of Görlitz, also posessing a typically Jugendstil organ, built over the church´s pulpit (I do not remember the name of that church though). More recently, my Görlitz fascination got another boost from watching the film "Hotel Budapest" which was filmed for a very important part in Görlitz. Altogether, with this video you gave me one more good reason to visit Görlitz again after the Stadthalle and its remarkable organ will have been restored to their former glory!

    I am surprised that you found this organ to be at all playable - Görlitz's Stadthalle appears to be severely neglected and no longer in use. How did you manage to gain access to this organ? Unless the community where it's located steps forward to save its hall and organ, their future looks bleak - indeed only a matter of time before this abandoned hall is demolished and replaced by a new structure.
    I hope your calling our attention to this organ stimulates interest in preserving it - thank you, Paul Fey, for coming here to see and play this remarkable historic organ.

    This surely is a world treasure! I'm not sure how many Sauer organs are extant, but if as you say, this is the last one the company built--and especially as it is such a magnificent instrument--it would be a world-wide disaster to lose it, and a crime if it were changed significantly. There are companies out there who do masterful restorations of tubular pneumatic instruments. Loved the shots of the interior of the organ, esp. the spaghetti of lead tubing, which I assume was directly behind the console. Can I assume that the fernwerk action is electric? I can't imagine them threading lead tubing clear up into the ceiling, and if I remember Sauer's history at all, they were still building at the dawn of the electric action age. It appeared that there were no combination paddles for the fernwerk. Was there any sort of combination action for the fourth manual?
    I was a bit surprised at the overall gentleness of the instrument. Even at full volume, it was very well-mannered.
    Thank you SO MUCH for this demonstration!

    • @PaulFey
      @PaulFey  Год назад

      Thank you so much for watching! I totally agree with you - luckily the halle and organ will be restored starting this year 😀 The shots included are directly behind the console, yes! I‘m not sure about the Fernwerk action, I‘d suspect electric, but I‘m not certain - the instrument is 100% in original condition so I‘m not sure if they had these back then 😀

    An enlightened demo of a sainted lady nearly forgotten. I'm glad this grande dame still sings, even if it's a bit leaky. The pneumatic action bodes poorly for a renovation. If only they would play her to preserve life. Music doesn't have to be perfect in voice or pitch to be thrilling. Could the 'ceiling organ' have been for an ethereal effect? For what? 🤔

    und die Orgel hat sich bestimmt über die Durchlüftung auf der Baustelle auch gefreut.😉
    Was für eine Orgel, sie verdient es gespielt zu werden. (Meist vermutlich zu Konzerten…
    … Elias oder Paulus als Konzert mit Chor wäre doch passend oder ein Orgel-Konzert mit dem hochgeschätzen „Paul Fey“ zur Wiedereröffnung der Stadthalle miOrgelkonzert.😉🔥🐧 ( Vorschlag für die Planung !!!)
    Danke für die schönen Aufnahmen.

    Übrigens gute Aufnahmeposition zu Beginn - die 32'-Bässe breiten sich wie ein langfloriger Samtteppich raumergreifend aus - der Majorbass macht seinem Namen alle Ehre. Sicherlich spornte Mathis das für die neue Sonnenorgel an - da bebt die Luft ebenso.
    Jetzt noch einmalige akustische Situation - sollten die Bauarbeiten zur Wiederherstellung bald beginnen, wird die Orgel (hoffentlich gut!) eingepackt, und nach Auspacken werden etwa 2 Sekunden Nachhall wieder verloren sein.

    All instruments need to be played regularly, especial pneumatic action ones. There's a lot of leather in an organ, and if left will dry out render the instrument unplayable. Here in the UK there are so many municipal instruments gathering dust.
    Hopefully your videos will raise awareness of these hidden gems.

    Does "Stadthalle" mean this is a government building? It looks like some work is being done there. Perhaps this video will encourage a restoration of the organ. From what I've read about the Sauer Company, and heard in other RUclips videos, they built fine instruments. From Chicago, U.S.A.

    Seriously Osul, where would we be in this world if we didn’t have the existence of a 32’ Posaune? The Dark Ages I’m telling you. The groveling, uncivilized, worm-eating Dark Ages. I do hope there are plans and funding to fully repair and maintain this piece if history. A total update rebuild would be nice, but it doesn’t seem to be to be that far gone that it needs to lose its old mechanics and representative features if it’s era. It strikes me as being at the perfect state for preservation. Are there any plans for such?

    What a contrast; A unused building that seems to be slowly falling with a magnificent organ at the end. I kind of like the out of tune reeds - I think it adds character to the organ, apart from the reeds on the Fernwerk, they are very out of tune. What do the switches/buttons do below the stops? I've seen them before but have never known what they do.

    • @PaulFey
      @PaulFey  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much for watching! I totally agree - the detuned reeds add a kind of depth to the sound! 😀 The small things below the stops are for the pre-registrations. You can save up to 3 (?) registrations with them and activate them with a push of a button - this basically is the predecessor of the digital sequencer 😀

    Wow, to me it sounds very "American". Perhaps there is more German influence in American organ building than I assumed. Or its simply that particular registration. Anyhow, I very much enjoy this organ and your playing.
