- Here's the video I took of Alex Lifeson's guitar solo on Freewill. (I was taking photos as well so I didn't catch the whole song.) He's a hell of a musician and such a lovely guy. I feel so lucky to have met him and watched him play from up close. Hope you enjoy!

You know he's kicking it when everyone else in the band is watching his solo.
Alex has cited Townshend, Clapton, Beck, Hendrix and Page as influences. On this solo, I think he captures all five of those guys at once! Lerxst is truly a legendary musician.
he’s literally a god
Lerxst is genius..
Townsend influenced his chording and riffing but not really his lead playing Townsend is not really known for his lead playing.
That guy again... every solo that guy does is cool from working man to trees... this... to limelight.t...that one probably being my fave overall. Alex is the man
Wow! Alex just tearing it up here! This solo has been my favorite of his since I first heard it back in 1980. Just brilliant.
Forget the underrated thing. That guy is the GOAT!
Thank you! Let's delete that term from the vernacular permanently.
I like that drum shuffle after the solo. Gives it a unique taste
Thanks for sharing. The man's fingers are fast! By far my favorite solo by Alex. I was fortunate enough to see Rush several times over the years. For those of you that somehow have not up to now witnessed the brilliant musicianship of these 3 men from Canada, immediately stop what you're doing, buy the Rush R40 6 disc blu-ray set and be prepared to be blown away by the best band to come out of the great white north. Just my humble opinion of course but one shared by millions the world over.
Best part is the transition when coming out of the solo and then back to verse.
Rush is by far the greatest band ever.
I doubt there has ever been a fight at a RUSH concert.
This drummer makes me appreciate Neil all the more.
Very impressive! 👍
Incredible guitar
THE GOAT!
when and where was this? I don't think I have ever seen Alex playing Rush tunes without at least Geddy there with him, so this is interesting. I must say, it is super neat to hear this song in the context of a larger band versus just Rush as a three-piece. Hearing a Hammond organ in a Rush tune wasn't something I ever realized I'd want to hear, but it does sound really cool here!
The great Alex.
Alex The Great?
Amazing player and class act. So, who was the band?
solo - great! wtf were the other band members doing.
The best.....
only man i put before page in his prime
Where is Neil ?? Sounded like Ringo in the background
This wasn't Rush . It's Alex Jamming with another band.
Those poor other guys just trying to keep up🤣
Is that an all-star band with original drummer for Chicago Danny Seraphine on drums? (bows)
Yes!!! He's amazing.
omg finger madness! only one faster to my knowlege is Eddie VanHalen and im not even sure about that. they are both so fast and so precice.true masters of thier craft!
Who is the dude playing the black and white Tele?
Who was he playing with?
wtf why and where was he playing freewill without ged and neil
i was wondering the same thing
Because he wasn't in Rush anymore. Rush is done.
Why, because he felt like Jamming that's why ? He loves to play that's why . Why is he not allowed to get onstage and Jam with another band ? Why does this offend you ? He loves to jam,and he was invited onstage. Guitar Players get onstage with other bands all the time. Nothing new and ita not some acr od blasphemy. Musicians have lives outside of the bands they are in . People have this fantasy about bands being with each other always and everywhere.. When Alex was in Rush he actually went places without the others. He went to to see bands and even jammed with them.
Where was he and why is just such a ridiculous question. Also Rush was retired and Neil was sick with cancer at this point.
@pyro6411 Because he had a life of his own outside the band and sometimes did things and went places without the others?. Also guitar Players regularly get onstage with other bands to Jam and even Play one of their bands songs
You do realize Alex has probably got onstage and Played a Rush song with other bands many other times bur ir was not filmed . It happens all,the time .
It's pretty simple . Alex was out at a show living his life and got invited onstage and the band had Freewill on their set list so they asked Alex to Jam. Or maybe he is friends with the band and they decided to play freewill together. Is Alex not allowed to get onstage to have a Jam on a Rush song. Not a shock that Alex had a life outside of Rush.
@@adamwatson6916 yeah....I think he was just asking where this is from.
What band is this?
What band is this?

@@MrJaakl This wasn't Rush!
