    people are bashing this guy for using a truck "not designed" for rock climbing, but what the fun part about this is using something that is much more of a challenge then using a hacked up rock climbing rig that will creep over with no problem.

    Some of the comments coming up here are hysterical, agreed from what you see here it does not look like much. What your not seeing or knowing is many of these drivers have never been off-road so they did very well for the first time. The other part your missing is that this is just a small section in a 2day desert trail ride, one area of Rock, one of wet rocks and a lot of high speed open whoop and road sections. Everyone will have there own opinion as to how well they may have done.

    Raptors aren't made for rock climbing anyway. They were basically made as a street legal baja truck. No way I would rock climb in a $60,000 truck anyway, unless that's what it was set up to do.

    Hey Flash Gordan, just curious what year your Raptor is? Only reason I ask is because 2011 and prior has limited slip front diff. 2012 and newer have torsen front diffs that adjust power to the wheel that is not spinning. (this is done automatically when in "off road mode")

    Keep on practicing there guys, Two things , as has been said before, Keeping momentum up & NOT stopping & starting. The two here have seen too many videos of "spotters" picking & choosing "lines" to take. Let the Raptors long-travel take care of not-so-perfect lines, stay in your vehicles, momentum! Second, rock terrain needs rock tires, A set of IROKS would have been just fine.

    to clear up. they have rear locker. the front computer is supposed to aply front left brake. Maybe they had it turned off.
    a wheeling tip: if your truck has cheat coads, use them.
    an other wheeling tip: if you are in a rock wash out and your 50k$ truck keeps clanking on your lazy spoters blind side. stop see for your self and continue with your own plain. i know he had sliders and all but not the kind ment if it got slightly more schey.
    i know its ezay to poke fun and can say yea they could of bumped it a little or picked a better line, but im shure they got through damage free. that was the goal i imagine.

    Need better ground clearance, front and rear locking diffs for rock climbing. Limited slip diffs ok but they dont transfer all available drive shaft power equally to both front wheels which is why the one tire doesnt even spin when the throttle is opened up...this is where your low end torque is needed. Otherwise its a desert racer.

    I dont think there was a Raptor out there with bald tires, they were replaced by Generals. The Generals have a larger flatter lug than the BFG's and are better for desert riding "rocks etc.." the larger lug does'nt allow much grip on rock when it's wet.
    There is not very much, if any wet rock crawling on our runs except for this one spot, stock BFG's have been worn out completely within "one" hard run on the desert rocks and trails and are not the prefered tire in the desert.

    • @nathanmcdonald610
      @nathanmcdonald610 9 лет назад +2

      Daniel Peters Pretty sure rear lockers are standard on Raptors. My 2011 F-150 FX4 Supercab 5.0L has a rear locker and it was about 5 grand less than a Raptor. Normally I would agree about the solid front axle as well, (Wish my F-150 had a solid front axle.) but the Raptors aren't designed to be rock crawlers, they are designed for high speed Deseret racing. One of the few cases I believe IFS is superior to a solid front axle.

    Raptors can actually be outfitted to make halfway decent rock crawlers. These obviously weren't as they were running high speed desert trails right before this. But even still, knowing this was going to be part of the course, who the hell chose those tires? I mean at least give them a fighting chance. The tread's nowhere near aggressive enough.
