With a mix of optimism, determination, And a lot of DIY, We're breathing new life into this forgotten treasure, tackling everything from radiators falling through the floors to hidden secrets in the walls. We're learning (and laughing) as we go, sharing the highs, lows and unexpected challenges of saving a piece of history from the ground up.

@@wiggy3333 I didn’t see what you wrote before. It’s probably my American experience talking, but it’s unusual to see kids selecting pentagrams as graffiti. Words and symbols certainly don’t have any power in their own though. More power to them for overlooking it and cracking on to save the structure.

It's amazing what a good clearing can do for a space. It's already looking so much better. The wonderful relationship the Petherick kids have with Mom and Dad is so heartwarming. What a wonderful gift to have in one's life.
I really enjoy your channel. Thank You for sharing your journey with us restoring your beautiful new home! I thought I’d share with you something I learned about killing ivy which any other way then I describe, would be difficult to do. The ivy vines grow onto buildings and the vine part infiltrates the wood or whatever the host
Is made of. With the vine fastening itself onto the structure it grows and swells as it matures. Then pulling the vine part off will tear the wood apart or whatever its grown into. But when the vine dies, it pulls right off very easily. So what we do in NC is just cut the vine at the ground level area where it started growing on your house or structure. Your cutting off its life as its no longer connected to the vine plant, its now considered dead. Very simple and takes maybe 5 minutes to do. Leave it a few days and you will see it dying away. Then go to it and start ripping it down. It removes itself easy as pie. No fight or struggle and No damage to your home :-)

I’ve not seen you so happy I. A long while. It’s nice to see a real man stepping up and be willing to go the extra mile as well as dig I. A work. Side you. Stan’s humor and big heart fits right in with the Petherics.
I do not understand why vandals always break windows and destroy what is not theirs. Thant other building looks nice too. In Spring time you will see what beautiful plants provide Blooms and a bountiful amount of birds.

I was in tears when you play the music with your accordion. I remembered that music when I was a kid .my dad always played that piece accompanied by his violin. I missed my dad sooo much😢

The cleanup will be appreciated by all who visit/work. When framing houses in USA, our crew would put all tools away, then scrap out any and all items that could trip, cut, scrape, or hurt. That way the customers can walk safetly through to inspect the days labor. Prevents liability problems also. Let us see the out buildings.

Ooohh you’ve been doing it wrong all this time! Take it from the French who know how to sweep stairs… it’s ALWAYS from bottom up!!
Better to clean from bottom up when you have all that mess to camber over

I was struck by the same thought. Cleaning stairs is usually done from top to bottom.
Sadie, your parents are so very helpful and all of you kids have learned so much from them that they have inspired you to tackle these enormous restorations. I do have to say though that you two have taken on the biggest one of all. I am so excited to see it progress to it's true beauty.

I imagine the Stairway was built specifically for the style of attire at the time. Ladies with cumbersome beautiful gowns, flowing gracefully up and down.

Those stairs are so much safer without all the dirt on them. It really is a magnificent staircase and so much light a great vibe in the central hall. Great job, keep going!

It's exciting to see another lovely chateau being brought back to life. I would be tempted to spend a day with a heavy primer and paint over all of the graffiti, it would really bother me to look up and see it while I'm working.
It is so nice to start to see the architecture start to show itself with the cleaning of the main staircase.

So much clean up to be done, restoring old crumbling plaster is no fun, but little by little you will see the progress just having a clear passage to walk through...I can just imagine walking by and hearing that glorious music coming from inside, haunting indeed...!

When you were panning over the top of the chateau yesterday; the very top roof decor was so beautiful! It had a slight bend in the center. But who cares! It was just so beautiful! Stan, I thoroughly enjoyed your singing & musical talents! So fun!

Note for Stan. My dad was a welder and motorcycle rider who ALSO played the accordion. Before he became a welder he had been a fisherman then a cabinet maker! He was a genius when it came to welding repairs on motorcycles! 😊

Sadie and Stan, remember that rats and mice will carry viruses like hanta, Please wear masks, for protection. Also Mold will not do well in your lungs. I know when I was first renovating an old house, we took down the ceiling where a pack rat had stuffed the between area of the ceiling of the first floor and the flooring of the second floor. There was a canvas wallpaper on the ceiling and when it came down on us, we could not breath for at least 15 minutes. It was so scary. So I do ask you to be very careful with your lungs. But great job with it. Do you need to save the roof?

Looks like the second building Is In decent shade to possible fix first as a place to stay, or keep supplies/tools and use as a gather place and shop.

That staircase, when cleaned and treated, will be magnificent! In the states, we have Murphy's Oil Soap to use on wood. The tiles in that outbuilding are just like in the Convent! I look forward to seeing your snow. Texas is having a disgustingly warm autumn and will probably be the same for winter.
