- Are two saws better then one saw?
At least in the Pacific Northwest it was known that two sawyers single bucking with two saws (each sawyer with a single saw) was more productive then two sawyers double bucking with a single saw. So the question came to mind, what is more productive, a single sawyer using one saw or a single sawyer using two saws to cut firewood? Here is the video for the answer, in at least one case.
Used two 5ft long bucking saws, a Tuatahi M Tooth and a Simonds No. 520. The M tooth will normally cut faster then a traditional lance tooth except when it hits a knot.
Sometimes you just have to do things just for the fun of it!
Mr. Thode…some of the comments seem to have missed the obvious; that this video is mind blowing. Try it yourself, guys! ✊✊✊✊🍷🎩✌️
That's some mighty fine two-fisted sawin'!
Nice demo, Ive not heard of the two saw method before, what wood was being cut and what diameter?
thanks!
I have not heard of it before either, mostly just for the fun of it. I don't know if it would have any practicable application but may try it again when I can get a longer stroke on the two saw method. The wood was dead, dry western Bigleaf Maple and about 10" diameter. Thanks, Jim
what pattern of handle is that jim? i have a pair of "pacific coast handles but i dont think ive seen those outside of your videos.
They are Sells brand handles with ergonomic wood parts. The one with the curved guard is original and the other has a homemade part that attaches to the saw. Sells also made one with a larger curved guard.

i belive the second saw was dull or the rakkers are set wrong sorry for the bad english
Comparing two saws when neither has been properly sharpened and set is kind of silly.
You are correct, it would be silly. Both of these saw were sharp, the M tooth was new factory sharp from the factory and the Simonds #520 was recently sharpened and full serviceable.
That's true, but it does more correspond to reality than using the saws in "laboratory conditions"
At least it does not seem that 1 saw is way more sharp than the other one - so the test seems to be fair.
@Bill Simmons fuck off
